ADR questions

There's a chance we can swing a last minute trip to Disney at the end of July, we are not the type to really want to plan out our meals/times everyday, we kinda just go with the flow, the impression I get from reading some of the threads on ADR's is that you have to make these reservations way in advance or you don't get tables? What are the chances of us just being able to call the week we are down there and making one or two reservations or just walking up to a place to get a table? We were in Disney about 5 years ago and never really had a problem in getting a table at any of the places we wanted to eat at, one or two places we had to wait a bit but it was nothing outrageous and that was just walking up or making a reservation the week we were there.

It depends on when and where you want to eat, and the size of your party. For more popular restaurants, like Chef Mickey's and Le Cellier, they really can book up months in advance, and they will not accept walk ups at all in many cases. Same goes if you have a large party size, as it will be tougher to accommodate them.

If you are a smaller party size, and are willing to eat at less popular locations at off peak hours, you should be able to find a reservation at at least a few locations. Look at the deluxe resorts as an option too... many times they are less busy than the in park restaurants.

It all depends on how much you're willing to gamble. As was said the more people you have in your party, the tougher the reservation and the closer to peak time you get, the harder and harder it will be to find a table. If there are some places you definitely want to eat at, book those for sure. If not, be prepared to call around, have some backup ideas and a flexible schedule. The last thing you want to do is be scrambling just to find a place with an opening when everyone is hungry, let alone one that you'll really enjoy.

The really popular places will be hard to get. During free dining a lot of the middle of the road places are hard. There are a few spots that you can almost always get walk-up with varying wait times, Restaurant Marrakesh is one and a hidden gem at that!

I agree the more popular place will most likely be booked but if you do an open ended search on reservations site you can get a table. Plus cancellations do occur.

Yea in past we've had no problem really, walked up to Sci Fi, Crystal Palace, Rainforest Cafe and can't remember the other one we did in Epcot might of been the one in Italy. Really we kinda loathe having to make such dining reservations in advance because we prefer to just go wherever on a whim that week we are there and don't want to be held to a schedule of where we should be on what day/time. I'll have to try and convince DH we should at least try to make a reservation if we decide to go, was kinda thinking of giving Chef Mickey's a try, does Sci Fi really need an ADR as well?

Chef Mickey Definately...It may be booked already. SCi-Fi I have never eaten out had ADRs and could not keep them twice. Thing is that prior to that I was not able to get them as SCi Fi was booked.
Never hurts to ahve you can always cancel.

SCI FI can be hard to get into..better to have ADR's than roll the dice....we were denied one year when we tried to get into Sci Fi on a walk in basis...Ive gotten ADR's ever since
