Admiral Joe Fowler Ferry Stuck

I was one of the lucky ones to watch the Ferry Boat Admiral Joe Fowler run right into a marker in front of the Contemporary construction area and hit ground. Guess those markers mean something :)
It was moving at a steady pace until the ground stopped it pretty quick.

We did hear from another boat trip we took that Frank was out on traning.

Here's a couple shots of it coming from the the yard. Yes it is in Bay Lake.

Now you can tell it is no longer in the channel. Marker is actually right in front of the ferry boat behind the trees.

A closeup of the pilots figuring out the new course.
As you can see they all look pretty calm.

Time to backup (it was straining but lucky that worked) and get back to the channel. I never did see the channel marker again.

Here are a couple of video clips but not of the actual "emergency" stop. I was not expecting any problems so I started taking pics of the monorails and the construction again.

After about 20 minutes it was back in the seven seas lagoon for a day of people ferrying once again :)
It was a little excitement from a nice relaxing day.

Also for the people that did not know, the construction in the pics are from the new hi-rise timeshare being built where the old wing was located.

I didn't realize that Bay Lake had a channel!

Why, after draining and dredging the lake back during constuction of the World, are there shallows? It's not like there are any strong currents to shift the lake bed.

I would have guessed that the lake was a uniform depth.

I`d imagine it`s the channel into the North Service / Dry Dock marina

Interesting. I love seeing the ferry in Bay Lake. I actually have a picture of it on the water bridge, which is really cool.

Do they bring the ferries into the service area every night, or do they just dock them at the TTC and MK?

I do not think they bring them to the service area everynight.
This has been only the second time seeing one of them in that lake.

Every lake or river has to be dreaded and channels made for larger boats.
Just the movement of all the boats these lakes have in them will cause currents which move sand very easily.

most boats head over there for the night. i know that the boats that run from WL, FW, to MK are docked there during the night, cause i was the first boat in the morning and saw all 3 of those boats come from that area..and a few days later the ferry was heading out from that area.

Is this the channel on the bridge that connects Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon?

No, they're referring to a "channel" of deeper water that the large, heavy ferryboats must follow when they're in Bay Lake. Because they sit lower in the water, they must make sure to keep to the channel (outlined by markers) or it runs aground (as apparently happened in these pics). All of the other lighter boats can run virtually anywhere they want in Bay Lake. The view appears to be from the northern side of the Contemporary tower.

As Seven Seas Lagoon (where the TTC ferry boats normally operate) was man-made, I would assume that it has a relatively standard depth throughout. (Then again, when was the last time a ferry had to go over by the GF?)

It's a nice treat to see the Ferry crossing the bridge. Doesn't seem to happen that often, but noticed it a lot more lately. I worked at Contemp today and was completely unaware of it.

I bet they had a lot less problems than monorails had today. :lookaroun
Would have made me LOL to see the boat guys having a problem as well.
