Accepted but...

I just got accepted for Attractions for Spring Advantage 08. In my interview I strongly! indicated I wanted to be monorail operator (that is, my first choice was transportation)... while I'm very happy that I got the job I had my heart very set on doing the monorail. I thought about waiting to accept the offer, but the more I thought about it (and reading on the acceptance confirmation website that spaces are VERY limited) I realized how big an honor it and accepted. So it's kind of set in stone now :zipit: I should be WAY more grateful!!!! And I am now...

If I ever want to do the college program again, how can I improve my chances of getting into the monorail? Is it a very coveted position?

I understand that perfectly!! That is the whole point of the question.

Since I didn't get into Transportation... how can I improve my chances for next time?

My first choice was Transportation (or as I said in the interview, "my top 10 choices are transportation; after that comes everything else), second was Attractions.

Well they probablly didn't have any spots for you with transportation, so they put you with the 2nd. choice you said. I guess after your program is over, you can maybe go part time, and then transfer over. good luck!

Unfortunately, CP monorail roles are very hard to come by. There just aren't a lot of positions open. Most CP's in transportation end up in Watercraft. I'd say go with Attractions, then try applying again for transportation.

I feel your pain. During my interview, I strongly hinted (actually, I flat out stated...several times ;)) that my heart and soul belong to the Jungle Cruise. I got Custodial instead....and while it was a disappointment, I ended up having a blast for the most part.

As for how to up your chances...if you're planning on extending your program, I know they're usually pretty good about getting you what you want. Now, Monorails seems like it would be a little more exclusive than most roles, but as long as you work your hardest and keep your attendence/reprimand points down, I don't see why they wouldn't give your request some serious consideration :)

Basically any attraction or role otherwise that you know would be AMAZING to work is already filled by regular fulltime CM's. Getting a monorail role on a CP is very rare; as well as that of Adventureland/Liberty Squad attractions, Jungle Cruise, Great Movie Ride, and other similarly-desired things. There is nothing you can do to "increase" your chances for next time other than working with your manager to get you set up with a meet-and-greet to a Monorails managers who you can then express your desire to and get some guidance.

BTW, you said you got accepted into "attractions" but that is not one of the roles they offer (unless something changed). If you mean you got accepted into "Operations," you could be working in stroller rentals, parking lot, main entrance, or dozens of other jobs that "Operations" CM's do. Just know that whatever you get happened for a reason and you'll love it no matter what.

No it's been changed. Now attractions is its own category.

I know! I wish it was.
I second that.

This is totally not true. Jungle Cruise, for example, usually takes a good chunk of CPs due to how labor intensive the attraction is. GMR usually has a few open spots. TT, ToT, Pirates, HM, SM all have CPs (and quite a few of them). It's things like Universe of Energy and Riverboat and Hall of Presidents that normally don't get CPs because they're already fully staffed. It's important to look at the area and the other attractions in the area as well--sure Ad/Lib is desirable and has a lot of seniority, but it also has attractions that require a lot of people to work as well (like Jungle and Pirates).

Anyways, just my 2 cents.

I think this is the first year attractions is listed as its own role. I never noticed this in previous recruiting seasons so I was a little surprised to see it. Another new role listed is the Bippidty Boppidy Boutique (i know i spelled those wrong).

You will have a great time in attractions...I know I did!
