About paying $50

As for $50, I frequently pay $100 for a 2-3 hour Broadway show. If you look at entertainment per hour, it's not a bad deal. It costs almost $10 for a two hour movie, so if you're at a park from 9am-7pm you've basically spent the same ammount per hour. [/B]

OK....Suppose I paid $100 for a 2-3 hour Broadway show and I LOVED it.

Now suppose I went BACK to see that same Broadway show but now, because it's the "Slow Season" they decide that they will lay off actors and Box Office Employees.

Suppose now there's only 1 ticket window open and I have to wait longer to buy the tickets.
Suppose now instead of a 4 act play they reduced it to a 2 act play to save money.
Suppose they close off the section of the theatre that you enjoyed sitting in so they could force everyone to sit in one specific area so it would take fewer employees to keep an eye on you.
Suppose the theatre trash cans were overflowing with trash because they didn't have enough employees to keep up with the trash.

Would you rush home and tell your friends that they just HAVE to go see this play because it's so good....or would you feel a little bit dissapointed because it's not YOUR fault the economy is bad.

I know this is silly comparison...apples and oranges...

But that's a little how I feel when I go to the parks in the so called "Value Season"

I pay $50...the same as the people in the "Peak"season but have less options and shortened park hours.

I know what ya'll are going to say..."Why don't you GO in the peak season?"

My answer is this: I don't like crowds so I go when the crowds are supposed to be lower. I still think the options and hours should be the same all year round. It all balances out.

I own a bar/restaurant. Friday nights and Saturday nights are my best nights. I make ALOT of money on those nights. Sunday and Wednesday and Thursdays are so-so. Sunday nights, Monday nights, and Tuesday nights are usually pretty dead. I don't shorten the hours or staff on these dead days...I figure I need steady hours to keep my business running and to keep my customers happy. It all balances out. :animwink:

::Dodging Bullets:: Don't get angry at me folks...I'm just expressing my opinions.
I LOVE Disney World and will go back every year as long as they let me in and my body will tolerate the Florida heat.:D

Scooter,

Have you tried closing on Mondays and tuesdays? Or shortening hours/staffing?

My guess from a business perspective as a businessman myself(but not in the restaraunt/lounge business) is that if you do this you will increase profits.

You may upset or offend the clientelle that do frequent your establishment on the off nights, but still you would wind up saving more money and making more profit. Those patrons who normally frequent your place on Friday and Saturday won't be affected by it.

Now.. if your aim is to have all love your place and are willing to accept the loss that this requires then so be it-- I however do not think it balances in the end-- at least not monetarily-- the balance may be in the form of pride of ownership etc. but not in capital.

Scooter knows that if you go dark 2 nights a week, a certain amount of people may decide you are not worth going to as you might not be open again.

The closing/cutting back for profits does have a breaking point, obviously if you closed permanently you would never have to pay any salaries, think of all the profits you'd make!

I go off season also and I would much rather pay the $50.00 and have less crowds. The parks don't have to stay open as late because I used to go peak season and I didn't see as much in peak season with later hours than I do in off season with shorter hours. I don't think they need the later hours in off season and if you hit a weekend the hours are extended so you can go on those days. Give me off season any day!!!! $50.00 well worth it!!!

$50.00 = BARGAIN

:) For me 50.00 is a bargain to feel like a kid again without a care in the world. I would shell out $50.00 dollars without blinking an eye if I could bottle that feeling I get when I first walk down Main Street. In fact, I bet Disney could not keep those "bottles" in stock. Just think if you were having a really bad day and you could open a bottle of Disney Magic at home and all your problems would go away.

Sorry for the rant...

I save all year long to go pay to be entertained at WDW. If the show wasn't worth it, would I go back again and again? Nope. I spend roughly $3000 to $5000 for 7-10 days at WDW. Do I gripe, nope.

:brick: To me, the folks that gripe didn't plan very well. There are certainly enough WDW information websites that freely tell you what you can expect. If you don't like what you see on the net, don't go. If you can't be bothered to plan, don't go. The park maps alone offer a wealth of information, if people would stop and read one for a few minutes before going through the parks. If you budget is so tight that you can't afford to spend $50/day to soak up the magic and just walk around enjoying the sights and the rides, don't go.

And, if you do go, don't gripe. :zipit: I swear, I hate listening to people that couldn't be bothered to do their homework griping about the cost, the heat, the rain, the crowds, or the kids running around.

GROW UP PEOPLE! :fork:

Well said!! Its very expensive to go from the U.K so I have to save all year round to get to WDW - if it wasn't worth it i'd never pay out all that money!

But WDW is worth it, and i'd probably wait twice as long and pay twice as much just to get there! :king:

I don't think $50 for entry is really the topic anymore - people just want to get their money's worth. Sure, the hours are slightly shorter, but the crowds are less so you should be able to do more - that doesn't bother me.

What I'd like to know THOUGH is if Disney could increase business if they lowered prices during down times, such as now. I'm sure their accountants have gone over it many times over. If the entry price was lowered to $40 for example, then they need at least 25% more people in order to break even (4x$50 = $200, 5x$40=$200) - you get the picture. This would be an interesting experiment. Problem is it can't just be a short-term thing because people plan vacations in advance, you have to advertise for it, etc.etc.

I totally agree with what all of you are saying. I was a cast member for about 3 years and I know about the whole griping guest. I can't believe that they take something like coming to Disney world for granted. There are people who have always wanted to come to Disney world just to see Cinderella's castle. I feel the guest that gripes about long lines missed the whole meaning of Disney. Just the atmosphere, the employees, the rides is reason enough. Everyday, 365 days a year Disney puts on a show, and I know when I was a CM I made sure that I did my best in my role.

I have lived in Florida for almost 17 years now and I remember ever since I was a little girl my parents took me to Disney often, seeing as we only lived a few miles from the park. I remember ever since I was little I wanted to be a Disney CM and wear the name tag and make people's days a whole lot better and give them a vacation they would never forget. I got my wish in 2001 and it was the most fun I've ever had. Unfortunatley I moved farther away and had to quit my job. I will always remember my time at Disney though.

So to everyone who is griping about paying 50 dollars, be glad you got to see what only some dream about. Cherish a Disney vacation because it will be the one that you look back upon the most.

Just my 2 cents (by the way I first posted under my boyfriends screename themovienight, he let me use it that one time while this one was actviated. Just FYI)

Disney

It's funny, we've been on a lot of vacations, not because I'm rich, but because I truly beleive you must live now!!! My kids grew up in disneyworld, looking at pictures from when they were little to now when they are 26 and 21. We still go as a family because it's just fun when we do. We always seem to go with other people, we usually don't go by ourselves. We finally did in 2001, it was our first trip with just the four of us, so my kids were adults. We decided to do it up good and we did so many things but the one thing I remember was doing the Backstage Magic Tour. The group leader got us all together and asked what was our most memorable moment at Disney. My son said there are so many but the best time was that we finally went by ourselves this trip and it was the BEST one! It made me feel so good and when we talk about vacations, the one's we talk about most are out 13 trips to Disneyworld!:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

Perhaps these people who complain about the $50 should consider donating the money they would normaly spend on a WDW vacation to the Make A Wish Foundation. I'm sure there are plenty of terminaly ill children who would love the chance to go to WDW with their familys! I don't think you would hear many of them complaining about not getting their moneys worth.:D
