I am not sure if this has been talked about or not. Sweeps is over and for the season ABC finished a dissappointing third. Fox was only about a million viewers behind ABC. Spin City, The Job, and Dharma and Greg have already been cancelled. I am not sure about this, but I believe that there news programming always ends up third.(except Good Morning America) I really could care less about the station other then I believe if this entity is doing bad it has a domino effect on everything else. Who knows if ABC was #1 and brought in an extra 100 million a year maybe COP would not be a seasonal attraction? Even if they do not directly effect each other I know that with ratings like this means less advertisement, which means Disney stock goes down, which means no new attractions, no new parks, and no new hotels. I think they should just sell off ABC or do a major overhaul of there programming. Does anyone even care about this? Am I putting too much thought into it or are these reasonable concerns?

Yes resonable but Disney has to do an overhaul of ABC not sell Disney can use this channel to there advantage. They make alot of money off of owning ABC. and this fall loks good they were number one for 2 years straght.

I agree that they should keep ABC. Even though they are struggling there is still plenty of room for opportunity. Just look at Who Wants to Be a Millionaire's success. Plus they have ABC Family channel which is another great outlet. I think overhaul makes more sense than a sell-off.
And to tie it into Disney related products, it can place to advertise Disney movies, WDW, and other Disney products.
I think this will in turn help all of Disney plus WDW. I.e. more hours/improvement/rides/ etc. at Disney World! :D

ABC was doing fine until they decided to show Millionaire 4 or 5 times a week. Instead of trying to develop other shows, ABC put all their money on Millionaire, which eventually was overexposed.

Good point turkey leg boy. Millionaire is/was a good show but if its on all the time it can get old. It's not as big of deal then. It kinda reminds me of news shows (Dateline, 20/20, etc.). They may be good but when there are like 10+ on a week not a big deal anymore.

I think it's important that they keep ABC. It's their one non-cable outlet to the homes of america and the opportunity for their own advertisement through cross promotions is just too great to ignore. The problem with ABC isn't with the station itself, anyway. It's not like the brand is in the tank, just the programming. If they get themselves a decent lineup, there is no reason they can't come in ahead of the other stations. They just have to work at it. ABC is in the state it's in because somebody hasn't been doing their job right and that somebody works for Disney. Eisner knows a lot about the network game, himself since that's really where he got his start (with ABC, as a matter of fact) Perhaps he needs to micro-manage this division a bit more until it gets back on track. Just my 2 cent's anyway. :)

One of ABC's big mistakes was dropping TGIF, and showing.......gues what.............stinkin Millionare, which was a good show till they overplayed it. In a recent article in USA Today ABC said they were bringing TGIF back trhis Fall. Who knows. Lets findout.

While we are talking about ABC, what do y'all think about the fall 2002 lineup? I am looking forward to Dinotopia but besides that, haven't had a chance to look in depth at the schedule.

I think don't think Disney will be getting rid of ABC anytime so (if they do at all)!:) Disney is a company that is known for cross-promotion: in other words, they use each of their media to promote their products.

I.E. Take their new movie "Lilo and Stitch." They are using a cover story in their Disney Magazine to promote it heavily; their record company is using its promotional power to promote the soundtrack and the movie; the disney theme parks <tho I havent been there yet this year:( > undoubtedly have some type of promotion, publicity, parade, something w/ Lilo and Stitch.

Disney is a company that thrives on this type of promotion across different media. Even if Disney is third in the overall viewership, the company is still gaining millions of potential consumers for its products/shows/characters/theme parks. In my opinion, I think the company is absolutely genius when it comes to how they market their products!!!

oh yeah, on a side note, Millionaire was WAY overexposed:D
