Abandoned Walt Disney World

Reading some articles today on the Passport to Dreams Old and New blog has made me think once again of all the abandoned spaces and places around the parks and resorts. Mostly due to yield management and streamlining operations, as capacity continues to be an issue one would think that any possible venue that can be used, should be. I am mostly thinking of venues that at one point were operational, my favourite go to being Les Boutique des Provinces in Canada, rather than things that were planned/half built like the Germany attraction. What area would you most like to see put back into normal operation? What would you put there?

I feel Magic Kingdom and Epcot have the most to offer. I would like to see Heritage House put back into a retail location, or expanded serving area for Sleepy Hollow. I would also like to see Anut Polly's return to normal service, all it needs is some sort of special menu item for the vloggers and will draw people over.

What else?

I thought you were thinking of places like River Country and Discovery Island (Bay Lake).

I agree, especially in on-property hotels. It boggles me how the massive and now unused Coronado check-in area was converted only to a few seats, seems so odd.

The convention site hotels also have ample space that normally goes unused.

I’d like to see Launch Bay used to showcase some animators at work. They could show different techniques that are used. I miss that.

Would love to see Aunt Polly’s fully functional. Aren’t there issues with power or sanitation or something though? Nothing insurmountable hopefully.

That area does feel so odd now, though since they updated all the seating areas there it does seem to get more use, lots of laptop people anytime I walk through.

It's a Walmart system for trying to impress. Walmart puts in 28 register locations and never has anymore than three open at anytime.

If I recall, the animators who worked at Hollywood Studios weren't too fond of their fishbowl-like work environment, so I doubt we'll see something like that return.

God how I hate those self checkouts every store you go to they all operate differently
I don't actually dislike them, but my back screams at me while I am trying to open those plastic bags that are apparently glued shut and also the angle that I have to stand, sort of bent over to scan and load the bags is mostly why I hate them. But since they only open 2 or three other ones if I only have a small amount the people in line are usually packed with @Figgy1 type loaded carts.

I can imagine how awful that would be. You are trying to concentrate on your work and some dork of a Guest is pounding on the window trying to get you to look up and then take a flash picture in your face. Wonderful for guests, but terrible for people trying to do serious work. I wonder why they didn't demand extra pay for being entertainment as well as animators. I don't remember ever seeing many people actually working in there anyway, so I always wondered if they didn't have another actual work room and they had a rotation schedule to be "in the show".

Every time I am waiting at the end of a long line at HM, I always look at the queue building for the Mike Fink keel boats and wonder if it could ever be used again (other than as a very occasional extension of the HM line). Then again, I find abandoned theme park elements interesting but a bit creepy, so, for me anyway, it adds to the whole vibe of HM at night, standing next to it, envisioning the ghosts of the thousands of people who used that line in the past. Or, maybe I'm just weird.

I remember riding in a Mike Fink Keel Boat and I have no interest in seeing them return. :)

I might create a new thread for this, but I was thinking the same. That whole area is a disaster and really need reworked.
