Abandoned Parks Tumblr

I ran into this Tumblr site about a month ago. It is a great read if you are into post apocalyptic amusement park pictures. It is not original work from one particular author. It is an aggregate style tumblr and It seems to update pretty regularly. The guy running the site sources his pictures pretty well which can lead you to a number of very good urban exporters websites, flicker accounts, etc.

Enjoy!:)

It's crazy how many parks were abandoned before completion. So creepy to look at!
Unfinished buildings are quite creepy. The engineer in me always wonders what critical support structure is missing that will cause a 100' tall structure to come tumbling to the ground when a seagull lands in the right spot.

That's really cool!

Wish I could've seen Boardwalk & Baseball before it was torn down. I wonder if it sat abandoned for long?

I'd love to go see Six Flags New Orleans as it sits now. We went there the month before Katrina hit and, man, I can tell you it was kinda on the janky side pre-storm. And, did you know that Six Flags New Orleans had plans for a waterpark??? I think I may or may not have heard about it back when the park was still operational. After Katrina I was working for the engineering firm my husband was also working for. I was sitting quietly in the corner of a conference room taking the minutes (booooring) and studying framed bits of drawings and photos on the walls. Right next to me was a plot plan for the site. Veeeery interesting. Apparently it had been designed/surveyed/layed-out by Wink Companies, LLC in anticipation of far more success than that property ever had.

I love stuff like this. Not that long ago, Slate had a photoessay on Chernobyl. I think it was Slate - very interesting!

Life After People was fun, too.

Hurricane Sandy did this to a roller coaster in Seaside Heights, NJ:

The pier it was on collapsed and it settled right there in the water. This shot was taken during one of the storm surges:

Here's some photos of Six Flags New Orleans from 2011.

I only visited the park once when it was still Jazzland. Even then it was pretty junky.
