A 'What If....' Question

So, here's my story in three paragraphs or less....

Last year a group of friends planned a trip to WDW - we ended up having a fantastic time. Decided we would go back again this year, but go to Food and Wine. Everything is booked - have rooms at BWV, have our ADRs and were discussing possibility of MNSSHP....

....I came to work today and while I was waiting on hold on the phone I said, 'We have to talk about whether we want to do the Halloween Party because the tickets go on sale soon..." and my friend looked at me and said those scary words, "We have to talk about Disney...."

Over the past few days one of the people in our group received some pretty serious health news. She has been diagnosed with lung cancer - we don't know the extent, we don't know a lot right now, but we feel my friend's spunk, her drive, her outlook will help her immensely. She has been looking forward to going back to WDW. Now, assuming that she has treatments, surgery, chemo, whatever and is capable of going, she may need help getting around. Another of my friends needs a wheelchair at times, and I have no problem pushing the chair - in fact I like the workout. But I can't push two....and that got me thinking about maybe we would need a scooter.

I know how to rent them and everything - but where do you store them? Do people take them back to the room every night for recharging? In small room these would be pretty tough to get around. It is something I never thought about before....so what I am saying is.... what if we need a scooter - where does it get parked at night?

I'm sorry to hear about your friend! :( Unfortunately I don't know the answer to your question. I do know that if you rent the scooter from a park or at DTD you do have to return it before you leave the premises. I think the people who have them on the buses and stuff either bring their own or rent them from a third-party. What they do with them once they get to the hotel, I don't know?

Again, I'm sorry to hear about your friend and I hope everything goes well with her treatment.

Yes if you rent them at the resort they stay at the park they stay there... If you rent them from an outside company they come back to the room with you... cost at park is 50.00 plus a 20.00 refundable deposit. :)
Yep!;) We had a suite @ All Star Music in 2007 ( 6 of us and 2 scooters parked in the room)!:D It's doable! I also saw some parked outside of the room, and i think that's OK too.
God bless you and your friend.

I wouldn't count on your sick friend making the trip. Attitude doesn't matter when you are horribly sick, tired or in pain. Not saying your friend won't be able to do it, just that it is possible that they won't be able to go.

If you rent the scooter offsite, you keep it. If you rent daily from Disney, you leave it in the park.

Rent an ECV daily from Disney. We had an older relative with us on a previous trip that required wheelchair assistance and we rented from an outside company. Was a complete nightmare. 2 days with the wheelchair we abandoned and went with an ECV rental at WDW. They were incredibly patient with her in getting her set up and comfortable and we didnt have any issues the remainder of the trip.
Sorry to hear about your friend. Hope the info helps.

Not sure fully but I do know some models fold up so this may eleviate the space issue in the room. Or you could bring a bike lock and leave it outside the door to the room with an extention cord to charge it.

My DM-I-L rented a scooter on our trip this past November. I know I know we became one of those families. Story is way too long to get into here.

Anyway, the scooter was dropped off at the resort and picked up at the resort. However, that's not the best part. When we returned from the parks in the evenings she would deliver the scooter to the front lobby/luggage check and they would keep the scotter overnight and charge it for the next day. Best thing ever. All she had to do was come by in the morning to pick it up and we were off. As long as your friend is able to walk from the front lobby area back to the room you should be in good shape. By the way, we were staying at Art of Animation.

We rented from offsite and kept the scooter in the room at CSR. They don't take up as much floor space as you would think. You should have plenty of room at the BWV if it is needed.

I hope your friend does get to go. It would probably help her emotionally navigate the battle before her. Hope you get some better news soon.
