"And why not? Disney can release some ancient crapfest that most of us ignored the first time around and people still rush out and buy it in droves. Disney can release horrid sequels to so-called classics and people fall all over themselves grabbing up a copy. Yet if we look at Disney we might start to understand the underlying problem in the extra-terrestrial's lack of staying power. Disney markets the crap out of everything."

Has disney ever released a so called crapfest?

In the immortal words of Goofy, "GWARSH". I don't think Mr. Baxter is as much of a Disney fanatic of some of the people who hang around WDWMagic. I can think of some sequels and even some original releases that haven't impressed me, but "crapfest" does seem a bit strong.

I think the main problem with ET is simple: kids are no longer "softy-sweet". When I went for the re-release, 90% of the audience was grown-ups visiting an old friend. Why would kids wanna see ET if they have other "cute creatures" like him  that can do much more, like attack with lightning bolts and razor-sharp leaves? Unfortuantely, in a world where Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Hamtaro are cool, ET is only a dumb ugly doll...
