Once again... I don't see what this has to do with Disney. If you don't like the procedures for entering the country then you have a couple of choices. One... complain to the government or the UK respresentatives in the US, or Two... don't come. I've read horror stories of Americans travelling to Europe (including the UK) so I doubt it's only a problem at MCO for the Brits.

Is this guy serious! He stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and he claims it is made of fake concrete logs!! Sure I know there are some 'fake' logs (i.e. not wood) which I presume are for structural issues, but to claim its all fake!!

LOL obviously paying attention to his surroundings is another one of this guys many flaws! LOL

as to disney i was amazed this march that i could not get myself and my partner 2 alcholic drinks. what is the world comming to when a 40 year old man says 1 beer and 1 pina colada drink please

when you go to a petrol station and buy a 4 pack of beer and a man can have his gun on the pasenger seat yet if i put my 4 pack of bear next to me i have have commited a crime (could not spell your f***** word)

but then again i am not a resident only a tourist who sees with his eyes what is happing in your country so why should i not say what i see and heer.

I'm not sure what caused your attitude, but it's not what I'm used to seeing from Brits. Also, most people claim American society to be the most inviting. In fact, the US south is quite the opposite of rude.

Maybe you had a problem with customs and figured that everyone is the same way. That's your loss...

Nobody here has insulted you... yet. I suggest you find something else to discuss before you raise the ire of the horrible Americans on this board. :wave:

I personally think we can leave the American laws out of this forum. In fact, the vast majority of the criticisms stemmed directly from that. Disney would LOVE to sell you five overpriced (yes, they are. It's the restaurant business - it's how they turn profit) glasses of wine than one. It's the strict laws that make regulations like this necessary. Same thing goes for entry and security. I am not trying to defends or attack America. Just saying this may not be appropriate for this board and that the article seems off-base to an extent since these were criticisms of Disney which really have nothing to do with what Disney wants.

I also agree with marni's post. This is like sending someone that hates jazz to a jazz concert. Disney is meant to be happy, glorified, child-like versions of things that allow people to be hopeful, optimistic, and everything else we were as children. Seems like that doesn't appeal much to him because he is grounded solely in "reality" and doesn't want to leave, even on vacation. That is his choice by all means, but I don't know that it gives him a right to criticize in this way by his own (admitted) mental wiring.

For the record I don't believe most of his complaints actually happened: Minnie at the turnstyles, three year old being required to use biometrics, recieving a memo stating the President was visiting and "movement around the site would be limited"

I see your point here, but at the same time I believe this is also the purpose of the article, maybe it’s just the way that I read it but I don't see this as being a review of WDW; instead its a travel story, similar in style to that of Bill Bryson. Everyone knows that when most people return from a far-flung destination (such as WDW for us Brits) they come back with stories that are exaggerated, it’s not necessarily a bad thing it just gives them a chance to appear more interesting. Many of the points that Adams makes are those that would appear odd to Brits, i.e. more conservative drinking laws, stricter security, and copious amounts of sugar, by doing this all he is doing is playing on national stereotypes by telling the stories that his peers expect him to tell, this is akin to a WDWmagic member returning from the world; except they would be awaited by eager eyes wanting to read about Brazilian tour groups, ladders or altercations at the F&G Festival, the 'perfect' trip report (for a WDWmagicer) would feature all three.

<st1>Adams</st1> is just making an in-joke between Brits who have been to WDW and in the meantime is painting himself as a typical grumpy Brit abroad (the actual printed version of the story has a picture of him wearing Mickey Mouse sunglasses, it’s quite a sight:lookaroun).

It is ridiculous for you to associate the behavior of the TSA with everyone that lives in the US. Traveling anywhere can be an unpleasant experience. And I have been to the UK and I've never been over whelmed with the warm and fuzzies. I will say you were better than the French.

You're quite right there SallyShine it is ridiculous, and to be honest on my last visit to the US we couldn't have wished for a better welcome, the immigration officer even recommended a great restaurant near where we were staying! But as all Brits entering the US experience the TSA it’s a common topic of conversation (even if it does have a tendency to turn into a good old fashioned British moan:lol: )

The laws are pretty clear, if you are buying more than one drink, the other person must be on show for who you are buying the drink for. This is in case you might be buying a drink for somebody who is underage. What is so hard to understand about that, it makes perfect sense.

Somebody who lets something as minor as this innocuous little law get them in a bad mood for the rest of their vacation must just have trouble having FUN, which is what WDW is all about.

The same thing goes for US customs. All though I have never experienced anything bad with US customs, quite the opposite in fact, I usually don’t get their thinking it’s going to be all smiles, and hugs. It’s security… it’s a serious business, and your there for what, half a hour at the most.

Maybe laugh about the way they serve alcohol in America and chalk it up to a fun vacation? But if the culture of the country you are experiencing is really that upsetting to you, you have two clear choices... Don't return to that country, or don't visit the country in the first place.

I know on my last trip to Japan I was constantly in awe of the way they run their public transportation, their stores, everything was different there. A few things I found a little odd, or even annoying, but I wasn't about to start criticizing their culture and their country to them. That would just be rude. And overall I had a wonderful experience in their country, and I can't wait to go back! And to top it off, their Disneyland Resort is even better than ours, and their level of CM service beats WDW 18 times over!

Interesting article. I was also at WDW when President Bush was there, and got the same letter about some of the transportation routes being affected. But they sure didn't have people searching busses or anything like that. Just a couple of roads closed off. And the letter from WDW did not say that it was the President, just that there was a special event going on.

And which Disney park is it where you can see the leaning tower of Pisa and Big Ben?? I must've missed those.

I don't have much respect for a reporter who makes stuff up.
