A Short but Sweet Trip to The World: June 17-21, 2011 Trip Report

Hello everyone! Before I get started, I'd like to say a big thank you to Hollybelle for teaching me how to link my pics from an online picture hosting site. (I use Picasa....I'm a Google girl!) Thank you, Hollybelle!

You know, I thought summer was supposed to be a restful time for teachers but it has been very busy for me so far! Things have finally settled down enough that I can FINALLY write my trip report from our recent trip to WDW. For any of you who read my pre-trip report (click pre-trip report if you'd like to read it), you may have noticed that I changed the name for my trip report. Well, there was still a retiree, a teacher, and a princess visiting WDW, but this trip turned out to be about so much more than just the three of us! (More about that later.)

So, here’s our cast:

P6190791.JPG

Me (in black)
This was my 5th trip to WDW. (More info about my trips in my signature.)

DM (in red)
This was her 3rd trip to WDW, although I really don't count the first one because it was in 1972. She didn't take pictures and she can't remember very much about it.

DD (guess which one she is? )
This was her 3rd trip to WDW.

DCousin (DC), DCousin’s Wife (DCW), DCousin’s Son (DCS)

IMG_20110618_132944.jpg

They also have a daughter but she wasn't with us on this trip because she was visiting her grandparents and other family and friends in Ohio. They live about 2 hours southwest from WDW and they’ve been so many times that I’m not sure they can count all of them! They stayed at a Marriott off property for most of the trip.

I do feel the need to warn you that I have a tendency to go on a tangent about certain things and digress. Since I’m totally not in denial about this little issue, I’ll give you little warnings for these tirades like this: SN (meaning Side Note). Yes, that’s my disclaimer statement. Don’t say you weren’t warned!

(SN ABOUT DCW) I feel weird calling her this. We’re friends and scrapbooking buddies and calling her just my cousin’s wife seems so wrong! I feel like I should call her DFriend (DF) instead! Yeah, I like that much better, DF it is! Family by marriage, yes, but friends by choice! (END SN)

For those of you who don’t have time to go back and read my PTR, here’s the Reader’s Digest version:

Friday: Flight super early, Check in at Port Orleans Riverside, Go to Magic Kingdom, Meet DC, DF, and DCS around 8pm, DF and Me to spend late night just the two of us in MK;

Saturday: Epcot with lunch at Les Chefs de France;

Sunday: Hollywood Studios, DC, DF, & DCS leave;

Monday: Breakfast at O’hana, Animal Kingdom;

Tuesday: Visit a park that we didn’t see enough of or chill at the resort to take pictures, shop, or swim.

Of course, not everything went as planned and some of the unplanned stuff was totally better! I’ll point out those things as I go along.

Also, one last thing: Like many other Disney fans, I love trying to do as many new things as possible during every trip to WDW. So, I’m going to indicate our new experiences like this: (NEW). These will be a new experience for me or DM or DD. I think DC, DF, and DCS have pretty much done everything but there were a few new things for them, too.

OKAY, SO ON WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!

Hey! Thanks for reading! Trip reports are more fun when you can share thoughts and ideas from/about them with others. :D

We did have a super terrific time, even though it was a shorter trip than I would've like to have had.

Thanks for the compliment about my daughter. She is a sweet girl and we have lots of fun.

It was really great to be at WDW with others who are flexible and just go with the flow. That's the way my immediate family likes to vacation, even at Disney. You're not always guaranteed to have that, even with family!

Thanks again for reading. I hope to have the next installment up very soon! :)

Okay, before you start to criticize my delay in finishing this trip report, please keep in mind that I'm a teacher AND a single mother in addition to being a Disney nut! I am molding the minds of the future, fostering the world's next geniuses, teaching the next future president! Do you feel sorry for me yet? You don't need to really. Just be patient and understand that my life is a three-ring circus most days!

So if you still reading, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Since it looks like we won’t be able to visit anything Disney this year, I’m updating this simply to make me feel better and of course to share our adventures with all of you!

My mom experienced lots of NEW things here. In fact, it was ALL NEW to her because this was her first trip ever to this park. In 2008, she said she wasn’t interested in visiting this park because she just wasn’t that into Disney movies. o_O I know you just GASPED, didn’t you? LOL! So, will she like this park? You’ll just have to keep reading to find out! HA HA :p

But before I get into what we did at DHS, first I must tell you that after two full days at the parks (MK and Epcot), we were just plain exhausted. So, we decided to sleep in a little bit and just chill a little at the resort. We started with a bounty platter around 10:00 am.

DD was joking around and wanted her hand in the picture as a little joke, like she was going to take my breakfast! So silly! :D

After breakfast we decided to take a little dip in the pool. Yes, I know the old wives tale about waiting 30 minutes after eating to go swimming. Call me a bad mother, but I let my daughter go swimming and lo and behold….she didn’t get even one cramp. ;)

She absolutely loves the water slides at Disney!

Around noon we decided to walk back to the room to get changed for the Studios. Of course, I took a few pics along the way.

We got back to the room, changed and headed to the Studios!

We arrived at DHS around 2pm.

At least that’s the time stamp on this picture:

We're here!

Yeah, a little late in the day but there’s really something positive to be said about having a relaxing start to the day. It really helps me enjoy the parks even more then I get there.

We went straight to TSMM.

A green army guy was hanging out:

I’m not sure that I mentioned this earlier but DF had acquired a Guest Assistance Pass because she had visited WDW a few weeks earlier and she had a sprained ankle. It was still valid so we used it on this trip as well since I have serious issues with my foot. So since we had the guest assistance pass, we didn’t bother with fast passes for TSMM. I was so excited for DM to ride this because it’s my favorite and I was hoping it would be hers too.

Aren't they just so stinkin' cute?

P6180573.JPG

They all look so serious! Shooting stuff is serious biz! :D

P6180576.JPG

Yeah, I know….sad, sad scores! Mine is on the left, DMs is on the right. Oh well, it’s about the fun, not the score, right? You may be wondering…did DM love it?

P6180572.JPG

She absolutely did! She continues to talk about that ride even to this day!

When we came out of TSMM, we heard the parade so we quickly found a spot to watch it.

P6180581.JPG

I don’t think that everyone else was that crazy about seeing it. It was very hot and they just didn’t think it was worth standing in the hot sun to see it. I really wanted to see it because I hadn't seen Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun and I love the Pixar characters. Everyone humored me and we stuck around to watch it.

Can you tell just how hot it was by my face in this picture? I really believe it was 105 in the sun!
IT WAS HOT! I'm grimacing because DM called my name and then clicked when I turned toward her!

SN: Did I mention that my DC is a little goofy? I didn’t realize until I got home that he had taken these pictures:

Needless to say, after being in the hot sun to watch the parade, we were looking for something to do inside to cool off. So we headed over to Star Tours. I was excited to ride this because I hadn’t been on it since it had been refurbished.

DCS was just tall enough to ride it. Hurray!

I loved it but I have to admit that I was having a difficult time remembering how it was before  but it was definitely fun!

After a visit to a galaxy far, far away, it was about 4:00 pm. The kids were getting a little restless we were all hungry. Since it wasn't quite dinner time yet, we stopped for a snack.

P6193111.JPG

Somebody in our group got this. Can't remember who!

P6193114.JPG

And of course, time for a little more silliness by DC!

Next we were feeling a little rock ‘n roll so it was time to see Aerosmith.

P6180625.JPG

I wasn’t sure if DD would be willing to ride it. I’m not sure if I have ever told you the story about DD’s first ride on a roller coaster. No? Well, I’ll just give you the brief version. It was at Busch Gardens Williamsburg on the now gone Big Bad Wolf. The short version: she didn’t like it at all. Of course, she was a few years younger when she rode the Big Bad Wolf, but I was wondering if that had scarred her at all. I was hoping that it hadn’t and that she would be willing to give Rock ‘N Roller Coaster a try. Of course, the first question: is she tall enough? (She wasn't the last time we were here in 2009.)

P6180626.JPG

YUP!

Well, at this point, she’s all grins and ready to ride!

I was so very nervous. The Big Bad Wolf doesn’t go upside down. RnRC does! The Big Bad Wolf doesn’t have spiral turns. RnRC does! The Big Bad Wolf isn’t in the dark. RnRC is! So……how did it go?

P6180628.JPG

Well, you tell me? Can you see her in the pink the picture above? She looks terrified! She really did like it though. I tried to get her to take a picture with a big smile and a thumbs up after she rode it but she was grumpy and whiny and didn’t want to take a picture. I think her exact words were, “Mommmmmm, enough pictures! I don’t want to take another picture! But she did like it. So much so that we rode it again.

Next up was of course Tower of Terror.

P6193119.JPG

P6193120.JPG

DF makes me LOL! :D

This was a new one, not only for DM, but also for DD. She didn’t ride it in 2009. I figured since she was a real trooper for RnRC and she loved that one, that she would love this one too. I mean, it doesn’t go upside down or anything. Boy, was I wrong! She hated this one. She hates the dark and I had forgotten how totally dark ToT gets. At least with RnRC, there are flashes of neon lights but not with ToT. The unknown aspect of not knowing when we were going to drop in the pitch black of darkness just did not work for her at all! She was terrified and hated every second of it. She grasped my hand and arm so tightly that I literally couldn’t feel them by the end of the ride. And of course that made it difficult for me to enjoy the ride because I was so worried about her. Well, anyway, we all survived it. Afterward, she told me in no uncertain terms that she would not ever ride that one again!

P6180637.JPG

This picture was taken before she rode it. You can tell because she’s all smiles!
(More to come tomorrow...I promise! Too tired tonight to post more!)
Thanks for reading! :)

Okay, so I don't normally break promises but it's been longer than a day since I updated our trip report! Papers to grade, daughter and doggie to feed! More coming soon though...I do make that promise! Thanks so much to anyone who has read my tr.
