Disney offers an expanded EMH that is ballyhood as so much more ... while UNI files plans for Potter land use on the same day.

I am sure it's just a coincidence!

~If you love UNI so much why don't you just go there and we'll have shorter lines at the Pixie Dust Kingdom?~

It's obvious that Universal has tried to one up Disney recently but I don't see any connection here. The average person would never know about nor would they care about those plans. Now if they had released some official concept art for a Harry Potter expansion, that would have been another story!

Just FYI but the state of Florida is getting ready to have a rather major building code change that goes into effect on 3/15/2012. Submitting plans prior to that date avoids them having to either rerun engineering, architecturals, etc to meet new code or go through the approval process of being grandfathered in. Many builders are scrambling to get plans in under the wire right now.

Didn't Lee say that Potter Phase II was the project that REALL has TDO terrified. I mean after spending one billion to force us to book rides 6mos out, they're not gonna have much for anything else.

Terrified as in resign their positions terrified, or terrified as in, its just a fan perspective of TDO being terrified when they really are not.

Umm no. He implied, and others, that since New FL is HARDLY a response to Wizarding World, Potter II will be worse. I mean, if UK guests are already STARTING thier vacations at UO instead of WDW, and people are skipping MGM and DAK for ONE DAY of IOA.......then.....it stands to reason that TWO Potter areas will take ONE whole day, PLUS seeing the rest of Studios and IOA. So I give UO about, 2-3 days away from people going to WDW with this.

And this is where I choose to disagree. Even with a new potter section, you would be able to do both parks (assuming you start in the AM) in one day. There just simply is NOT enough to do between the 2 parks to take up more than 1 day. I go to universal/IoA a lot and even at its PEAK season, I don't have an issue doing everything I want in a single visit. Granted I don't do EVERYTHING, but that goes for most other people as well.

Well, see, I just don't see people after Hogsmeade, Forbidden Journey, Ollivanders, HW Express, Gringotts Bank Coaster, Diagon Alley and who knows what else, to have energy to do the rest of IOA or USF. That sounds like almost more than half a day.

Which I can agree with. However I do also wonder that will anyone WANT to do the rest of the parks after that. Don't forget, this is spanning 2 parks (so more $ per ticket). Will people who are coming there specifically for the full Potter experience be willing to shell out that money for a 2nd day of stuff that just happens to be near it?

So where are the plans for the train route? Will this not happen? Or maybe the train will drive on the road since the cabins will have video screens for windows. Much easier to make if the train is just a well themed tram.

Thoughts?

I'll disagree with your disagreement. :) We went to Universal for the first time a year or so ago and spent three days there and still didn't get to see everything we wanted to see and we didn't even ride any of the serious thrill rides. There is easily enough there to fill two days for most guests.

Exactly. With the two parks there is a lot more there than just the rides too. Much in the same way people make arguments on Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom.

Universal Studios Park also has lots of shows. If someone is getting both parks done in one day they are definitely missing out on a lot in my opinion.

If the two world class theme parks did not offer enough for people to spend more than one day to take it all in they would not have three very successful Onsite Hotels.

That's very much an opinion. Just because you can't spend over a day at UOR without getting tired of it, doesn't mean someone else can't spend a week without getting tired of it. It is very dependent on the person.

I will agree with the two of you... I took 3 days my past trip to see Uni/IOA... And still didn't it all... And there is talk of another stage production coming.. WICKED may be making its way over to Orlando, which may replace something else, that would only make another show worth seeing... With new Potter, people can easily need 2 or 3 days to see the parks...

Thanks for the info ... if these are changes with Scott in the Gov's Mansion, one can assume that the crappy standards we have are going to fall even more.

That said, on the main point, I believe the plans were leaked out to get people talking as UNI is actually building things ... and Disney ... Disney is basically doing what it has since the turn of the century: as little as possible.

And I agree with y'all too!:)

I have easily spent days at UNI without getting bored ... and that was pre-Potter. My two post-Potter visits (well, three if you include a night at HHNs in October) have only been of the single day variety because I am a cheap Spirit that enjoys comp tickets !:drevil::king:

But I just don't agree at all with the 'I did it all in five hours and was back at Pop Century and ready to head to the MK that night' ... and you see that view with many Pixie Dust addicts.

I am not saying some folks may do it all in a day. Just that they are not the majority or even close.

Much like I don't see people leaving the MK bored stiff after 3-4-5 hours, but that is generally me on every visit!

Last trip, in October, I spent the entire day at MK (the day of the 40th)... DHS?? Went at 3:00PM and was bored to tears by 5:00PM... If it wasn't for Star Tours, I may have bashed my head into Walt's bust...

I didn't find that with IOA or UNI, even though I did IOA two days and Uni only 1... I was neither bored to tears or anxious to leave... I couldn't want for the day to end at DHS... And believe me, I've never been one to EVER get bored in a Disney park, even DHS which I really don't like all that much... I'll go back to DHS for Star Tours, ToT, RnRC, and GRM then leave.. TSMM doesn't do it for me (I have video game systems at home) and the Muppets needs to be updated...

Universal is making it more appealing to me to spend 3 or even more days at their parks... I wish Disney would give me a reason to want to spend 2 weeks there again, not only 4 days...

It has nothing to do with the current governor. Odds are he has no clue about the changes nor should he in the grand scheme of things. The changes in the upcoming revision long before he came into office. The codes in Florida are constantly being revised with major revisions such as the upcoming one occurring about every 5 years.

You are perfectly welcome to think that there is something nefarious about the timing of the submittal, but what they did is no different than what hundreds of other companies with large and small projects that are into the design phase are doing. It happens every time there is a major code revision. There very well might have been some sort of a back room meeting where it was decided that the plans would be submitted on the 29th in an effort to upstage Disney. However, my money is on US telling the contractor to have the plans in by the end of the month or pay for the code update.
