A Quick Question about EPCOT

it's used for conventions now. But, it is prime real estate for a new attraction, the problem is what to put there....they need some sort of attraction that would link Future World and World Showcase...but that's a bit tough to do...

I had an idea that would take the TTA from the magic kingdom and put it as transportation around world showcase. now you wouldn't put it in the open but around the back of each world. so if you walked through world showcase you wouldn't see it then you can theme each area like the UK area make it look like a subway station in london, or for american a NY subway station etc. and you could use odysee for the entrance. it would wisk you to all the countries with 3 or 4 slowdowns to get off in a specific area.

Sherm - that is an AWESOME idea and I would love to see it but I don't think it would ever happen. I miss the Odyssey - it's sad to see it not in operation every time I go and I actually liked the food! Although going just a bit further to Mexico and getting margarita's isn't so bad!:slurp:

It was a restaurant that used to serve burgers and sandwiches. Now, as stated in this thread, it's used for special events (ie: Food and Wine Festival). You can take a quick peek inside Odyssey when you use the restrooms (the side closer to test track). It's empty, but you do hear people in the kitchen cooking. I think it's used a cafe for Disney cast members for the most part.

Anyone want to confirm?

When it was built, I believe it was designed to service guests as a restaurant and also to provide a restaurant to cast members on the back side using the same kitchen. As far as I know, the do still use the back side.

the problem with having anything behind the nations is:
A) The two pavillions with rides have a large back-stage area holding the rides that you'd have to get around
B) The backs of all the buildings are not themed and there are parking lots and such back there that guests should not see. If you want to see how the backs of the buildings look, look to your right as you exit the Test Track ride building and enter the outside high-speed loops. Mexico is there. It is yellow with a strip of mexican artwork painted on there, but that is all. Also, Mission: SPACE is to your left...big black ride building. The only transportation change I could see is adding more stops for the ferries...like maybe one inbetween the existing stops to make 6 stops total (like...between Norway and Germany put one and around the International Gateway put the other).

Its a friggin eyesore now. Disney has lost the plot. You go there and you feel the magic and then you see a disgusting mess like the ODyssey and it makes you realize that Disney isn't what it used to be, it's all about the bottom line thanks to that know Paul Pressler. That guy needs to be taken out, along with George Dubyah. He is messing up the world and Pressler is messing up our escape from the world known as Disney World.

The Oddesy as a fast service restaurant has be closed for a long, long time. It was closed long before Presler came to Orlando. As a matter of fact, I’ve heald a seasonal or annual pass to WDW since before Epcot opened and I have almost no recollection of what was there at all... It’s not just an abandoned building. I’ve been to several events in their from cooking demonstrations during the food and wine festival, to pin events, to a higher end restaurant during the holidays. They also use the space for private events as well. Epcot has tons of dining as it is – The Odesy was probably found to be overkill.

The Oddesy was one of my favorite places to eat. If I remember correctly, they used to have a character breakfast there. Now it is in shambles. Anyway, EPCOT needs some new life. Unfortunately, except for some new rides and makeovers, it is on the back burner.

Also it had 3 other problems; location, location, location. I have eaten there several times and the food was ok but nothing to write home about. It's "hidden" on that elevated walkway between Test Track and Mexico. Unless you're a person like me (I check out every little space) you could easily have missed the Odyssey. That's one of the reasons I liked it. It was never crowded.

Why is it in shambles? Because it doesn’t have character breakfasts anymore? I was inside less than six months ago and the carpet looked ok; the ceiling didn’t have water marks on it suggesting that there were leaks in the roof. The more recently, the last time I was there I wasn’t looking for chipping paint but I’m pretty sure I would have noticed if there was any.

What new life does Epcot need? You say “Unfortunately, except for some new rides and makeovers, it is on the back burner.” Besides new rides/attractions and makeovers to keep things looking up to date and nice what more do you want? Every single country in World Showcase has a restaurant in it. Some have more than one. That’s like a restaurant every hundred feet or less in most cases. Future World has the Electric Umbrella which I believe serves pretty much the same food that the Odyssey did for most of the day and even beyond that there are all the food stands that sell regional snacks along world showcase as well as at least one near Test Track that is open seasonally… That’s not even including the Land which is a pavilion that is almost nothing but food and the restaurant in the Living Seas. That’s a LOT of restaurants… I’m sorry but I think the LAST thing Epcot needs is more restaurants. People think it’s bad show that the Italian restaurant in future world is closed and while I will agree that having what always looks like an abandoned lobby that you can walk right into at any time and see looking like a ghost town is bad, I don’t think they really need to open it back up. I’d rather see them replace it by just about anything – even a shop. That or wall it off that area and just provide access to the restrooms and the other side that has rotating exhibits. Since they do still use the building for public events, the have to keep a sign up for it because they can’t just refer to it as the building between Test Track and Mexico on the map when directing people there. I think maybe they should add something to the name such as

I don’t mean to sound combative here which I’m sure I probably do but not having enough new rides and regular referbs/rehabs seems to be what just about every single other person on these bards with a running complaint seem to have a problem with.

I don’t remember seeing anything on the restaurant side this year. If I recall, it was only in that hallway behind the restaurant and from the grumbles I heard from more than one of the vendors in there, it doesn’t sound like they will be in there again next year. I have to say that I liked it in there. Air conditioning was a big plus but apparently repeat vendors saw a major drop in sales because they weren’t getting the traffic that they got on that pathway leading to World Showcase. I can sort of understand their point. Where it was in there it was almost hidden so I’m sure they lost out on a lot of the casual walk-by/stop-by traffic that they have gotten in previous years in a much more visible location.
