A question about Magical Express?

I am going to WDW in August and I can't find any good flight prices right now. If I wait until the last minute to try for a deal, can I still make arrangements right before I leave by calling DME or when I arrive in Orlando at DME with my WDW reservation.

How would that work without having the usual DME ticket package that comes in the mail? Or could it work at all?

I think you have to do it at least one day in advance. One time I booked the trip so late, they Fed-Ex'ed the DME materials to me. If you don't receive anything in the mail or by special delivery, you just check-in at the desk. My understanding is that if you do not have a reservation, they will not allow you to use DME.

This is correct. As long as you have a reservation the worst that will happen is you will have to get your own bags.

Sometimes we don't book our ME reservations until the week before. Usually they are nice and they mail me the book without the tags through FedEx. We never use the tags anymore, we always get our luggage and check it at the hotel f the room isn't ready (which hasn't been the case since like 2007.) Once we had the luggage delivered to the room when the service came out but it took 6 hours...RIDICULOUS!

We have family in the airline industry so we flew standby last year to WDW. We called DME and asked if we had to provide a flight number since we were not sure what flight we would ultimately end up on. They were fine with out knowing firm details and asked us to call them as soon as we knew. We ended up flying down the day before our resort reservations, getting a hotel by the airport that had shuttle service and taking the shuttle back to the airport the next morning to catch DME. I think we called the night before and told them we were planning on being at the airport at 9:00AM or something. No problems.

Worst case is that you have to get your own bags and check in at the counter. If you have a hotel package booked, they'll take care of you when you get there.
