Trip Report A Not So Splashy, Very Dashy, Somewhat Sleepy and A Little Frisky, Uplyfting Sept 2018 TR (Completed!)

Once again, it is so hard to believe that our adventure in WDW is over. I don’t understand how time goes so fast when we are there. Even though this was our longest trip ever, it still flew by.

We returned home around midnight on Saturday and I’ve been getting back to reality and catching up on reading other TR’s before beginning my own.

Just in case you may not know us…

Me: Mary/mom

Ross – Dad AKA Grumpy, but was acting more like Sleepy on this trip. (And yes – those Crocs came along with him.)

IMG_5008.JPG

Julia – DD Sweet 16 this trip

Hope – My 9 year old princess whose diagnoses of Autism usually lends itself to some interesting tidbits for my TR’s.

Then it was time for Hope to meet her favorite…

Once again, Pocahontas looked at Hope and insisted she remembered her! I checked my pictures from last year and realized it was the same Pocahontas – could she really remember Hope? Or does she say this to ever little Pocahontas she sees? She took her to a special area to tell her a story and then back to the center area for more pictures. She gave her so much attention! I was so sad to see that there was NO PP photographer here. Hope got in a bunch of hugs and finally we all said we would meet again in four seasons. I hope we get to see her next year.

It is possible that Pocahontas remembered Hope - you just never know what makes someone memorable to another person. There is a restaurant that my DD and I go to from time to time - maybe a half dozen times in a year but spread out unevenly. We walk up this past summer when they have the outdoor terrace between the sidewalk and the entrance and one of the waitresses gives us a huge smile and hello like she’s really glad to see us. As I’m thinking wow, she’s really a friendly waitress (as I don’t particularly remember her) she turns to my daughter and says « chicken soup and a glass of milk as usual? » I was flabbergasted. We were just there again Friday night (and we haven’t been back since October when we had family visiting). She comes up to our table and smiles and wishes me happy new year (something you’d only do here thru January to someone you know that you are seeing for the first time in the new year). After she leaves I turn to my DD to ask her « is that the waitress who remembers us all the time? » Hopefully I’ve now got her imprinted in my brain so I can look less surprised next time 😉

You would be surprised, there was a story going around Facebook last week, of a CM who played Snow White when she was young, and she always remember one little girl every time she visited, and is now playing the Fairy God Mother, 30 years later, they reunite and she shows her the pictures of when she was a little girl with her, and sure enough, the CM definitely remembers her. It's a tear jerker of a story!

It is entirely possible she did remember Hope. Captain Jack Sparrow knew my daughters name while we were still standing in line at the Christmas party, and there was nothing anywhere near where her magic band could have told him her name.

Wow - That's pretty amazing! I guess maybe she could remember her.

LOL... well if you budget for it with a uber card, then imho it shouldn't be an issue!

Yes - I think that's something I'm going to do!

I had to look it up and then got all teary eyed! lol That was really sweet!

I am loving your report, as always! Why am I NOT surprised that Ross was upset about the Lyfts? Can't wait for the Crocs and more!

Thank you! Haha - you know my Ross well!

When I first saw this photo I was holding my computer at such an angle that the tree behind Pocahontas looked really dark and it looked like it was part of her hair! :hilarious:

Oh my gosh - that's so funny!

It was time to leave and venture over to Africa where we had to decide if we were going on safari or watching FOTLK.

We decided on the show – my favorite show in WDW. Strange isn’t it – AK has my favorite ride, my favorite show and my favorite character interaction, and yet it is my least favorite park.

My clothes were still wet, so I was really uncomfortable. Hope who almost never sits in her stroller for the shows anymore wanted to do just that. (She also sat in her stroller for Nemo.)

I was hoping that she wasn’t feeling sick. But she seemed fine and loved the show. And at the end, a lovely bird asked her if she wanted to go up and dance with them. Of course, she did and loved it. Those CM’s are just so amazing with the kids!

It was almost time for our dinner ADR, but we had gotten a return time for FoP, so since we still had some time before we could check in, we went back to Pandora for a ride with a Banshee.

Once we returned from our journey, we walked over to the meal that we were all very excited for…

We had the ROL dinning package so we each got an appetizer. Julia got the bread sampler, I got soup, Ross got a salad and Hope got a kids salad . The apps were very yummy!

Hope loved restaurants that had the activity menu and did all the puzzles. She was quite sad that the buffets did not have them.

For dinner, Hope ordered pasta while Julia Ross and I all ordered the surf & turf.

Ross and I were shocked that Julia ordered it. Julia is my picky “kids” food eater. But lately, she has been trying to eat a little more adventurous and try to stay away from fried foods, so I was happy for her – until dinner arrived. The steak was fine, but as I started to eat the lobster, I noticed it had a very “ocean” smell to it. I thought it was just me and I didn’t want to scare off Julia from eating it. So I stayed quiet and ate it. It didn’t taste too terrible, but it was far from good. Finally, Ross said something to me about his not tasting right. I gave him a piece of mine and he gave me a piece from his diner. When I took a bite of his I actually had to spit it out. The texture was gooey – it was just nasty. He said mine wasn’t bad, but he felt they were all overcooked. I asked him how he managed to eat it. Poor Julia – she picked a horrible time to be adventurous! Lol We considered saying something to our server, but we ate our meals, so we decided not to. In hindsight, I wish we would have all said something after our first bite. I was worried that we might get sick.

However, we moved on to dessert – which was much better than the lobster!!

Now truth be told, we were planning on giving away our ROL tickets. Julia really wanted to walk through Pandora at night to see it all lit up and I really wanted to see the Tree Of Life do its little show and see it all lit up as well. How ever, little Miss Hope would have no part of it – she wanted to see the show. So we all agreed to go.

We headed to the tree to see ITTBAB, but before we went there, we stopped so Julia could use the restroom and Hope could do a little dancing.

So I think we are in the minority here – but we love this show. Hope finds it completely hysterical and laughs throughout it. I always feel sad for the little kids who cry and there is usually at least one poor family who has to exit during the show.

We walked back to Pandora to see it at night.

It wasn’t too dark, but some lights were illuminating so Julia was happy. She also got to shop around the gift shop. Before no, it had always been so crowded, it was impossible to look around. She said she was considering adopting a Banshee. I was hoping she would change her mind and I was glad she did when she saw the “adoption fee” lol

On our way out, we couldn’t walk through Pandora, but I was able to see the tree with its beautiful lights. We paused for a bit and then said good night and goodbye to AK as were weren’t planning to come back this trip.

Once we were back at the resort, we filled our mugs and got a snack.

And once again, I brought up the Crocs. Ross walked through the gift shop and approached a CM and asked about their return policy. The CM was very sweet and told him the policy, which did not mention returning something already worn and a year old. He asked about returning something out of the return time window. She said it would have to be at the discretion of the manager, but they are usually strict about adhering to their policy. I asked if he was going to give it a try, but again, my hubby said, “The time doesn’t feel right.”

So we returned to our room and as I was falling asleep, I had visions of those Crocs dancing in my head as I was beginning to think he was having a change of heart and those Crocs were coming back home to NY with us.

Up Next: No. We are not with the drinking squad!
