A little bit cheeky, a little bit naughty or just downright wrong?

Is it wrong to use a family members FP?

I've never really thought that much about what I'm going to admit doing before, but with the advent of the magic bands it got me thinking about it earlier today.

When Mrs Merg and I visit the parks we nearly always arrive before opening. Like many others, after the rope drop we tend to head straight to the major attractions (Space Mountain, ToT, R & R, TT etc) so I can go on them with little or no queuing. Now here's the thing, the boss doesn't like these rides herself and so never goes on them. Whilst I'm on them she would nearly always get the paper FP's for them on both her and my AP. So when I got off my first standy ride, she'd hand me my FP and hers so I could go on them again.

In my mind I justified it by thinking that if she had gone on it then nothing would have changed capacity wise anyway. Quite simply if she'd used it herself that would have been two seats taken (her and I together) and if I use them both myself, that's still only two seats taken but instead by me on two separate occasions.

Now come September this year we're hoping to have magic bands as our AP's and we'll probably have our FP+s programmed on them in advance. This being the case it would mean me having to swap magic bands with her when I want to use her FP+ reservations for certain attractions. The thought of having to do this makes me feel a bit guilty all of a sudden, almost as if I'm somehow cheating or breaking the rules in some way? So I'm now wondering if what we normally do is wrong (morally if not legally), what you guys think or whether Disney would frown upon it

Thoughts?

Glad many seem to think this is fine. One question though about the new FP+ system. I've noticed on entering the park that our names must pop up on a screen when we enter. I'm aware of this because if the scanner can't read my fingerprints (happens a lot to me due to dystonia) then they often address me by my first name. I realise that entering attractions you don't do a finger scan but would the magic band scanners bring up the persons name for the cast member to see? If so i'll have to take a couple of tennis balls and a wig, but I'm hoping these measures won't be necessary ;)

No need to bring the costume. We never saw a screen at the FP+ entrance line. Also, if asked, you could say you are contemplating a gender change. If that doesn't shut them up, just say that yes, your name is Ms. Merg.

There is a screen with the person's name popping up at the FP+. I saw it myself back in December. Just be prepared for the raised eyebrows and/or "Sorry sir, you don't look like a Mary", if the CMs are watching it. They usually are watching the lights to turn green and would only check if there was an issue.

But beyond that - that is how my wife and I used to do it under the old system - a FP is a FP is a FP. Whether two people use one each or one person uses two - it's still two FP. I thought about doing the double using MB, but I sure as heck don't look like a Debbie, and I would be too embarrassed to be caught :p.

My family always rides everything together (no very young kids) - its part of our "Disney Family Time", but I don't see anything wrong with it. We have often handed our paper fastpasses off to other families if we didn't need them. We haven't been back to the world since the wristbands. As others have said, if you don't mind the strange looks, go for it. It would be nice if there was a way to transfer them between family members. Like the pooled credits for the DDP. That way, if the older kids wanted an extra ride while the little ones or grandma and grandpa head back for a nap, they could.

I know we will do something similar when we go this summer. I can handle all of the rides once...but some that's all I can do. So, for example, in AK we will all go on Everest together once. But the next time we would let the girls ride two more times using our FP's and their FP's while my husband and I take a break. I don't see any problem with it.

Many families get their bands mixed up so the Cast Members are used to seeing different names that might not seem to match the gender.

If a Cast Member stops you, their intention most likely will be that they want to make sure that you aren't mistakingly using your wife's band. Just tell them that your wife decided not to ride, and you'd like to use it anyways because you love Space Mountain. (The Cast love it when guests are enthusiastic about their attractions.) If in the slight chance they won't let you in, very politely ask to talk to a coordinator.

It works just fine and the cms don't care. I would take my wife's pink band(LOL) or my sons and just hold it up to the Mickey to light up and go! Never was stopped by any cm or given a funny look. I purposely would hold her and my sons band in the same arm as my own MB so they would see me wearing mine, and that I was scanning a bracelet that wasn't mine just to see if they would say anything...

I did this for several attractions. Our youngest requires us to baby swap a lot for bigger rides, so it would ultimTely leave us with 1 bracelet that still had a valid FP left on it not used!
