a James Bond ride

Hey guys, Brian here

I had an idea, now tell me if you think it would work.

At Disney-MGM Studios, Disney has a deal with MGM that allows them to use MGM films in their rides (such as Wizard of Oz in The Great Movie Ride), well since MGM owns the James Bond films, couldn't Disney do a thrill ride based on the James Bond films?

just wondering

From what I hear Disney is not renewing the licensing agreement with MGM when it expires in a few years.

And I don't want attractions based on "other" people's work. Star Wars and Indy Jones are enough. Disney should concentrate on their own films for ideas :)

As does Paramounts King's Island. It is in a complex that used to house a "Days of Thunder" ride (NASCAR Race with Cole Trickle, a.k.a. Tom Cruise) and now houses the Bond ride and a 3-d Spongebob ride (really good).

A Bond theme would be cool. If they ever were to do anything, I think it would be neat to re-work the new stunt show. Have some Mercedes flyin' around...HeHe. Just a thought.

I've been responding to posts and lobbying for a number of years now to get a Bond ride at MGM. I think something along the lines of Spiderman at IOA would be great, using both 3-d and live action effects. Not sure what the political situation is with Disney and MGM, but there is a lot of potential there for a great attraction.

You have a problem with ... BOND! Is that series any less compatible with Disney than Alien -- which, by the way, is my favorite portion of 'The Great Movie Ride'. :P

Heh, I feel that a lot MGM-owned intellectual property is under-utilized at MGM. They've used Indiana Jones, Wizard of Oz, Alien, Casablanca, and so forth -- but the number of rides that could be based on films seems limitless.

Hrm, perhaps Disney could purchase New Line Cinema -- or the other way around, seeing as how everyone appears to be bidding on Disney these days -- and we could see a 'Lord of the Rings' ride at MGM Studios some day.

No, I have a problem with all the sexuality in those movies. Some playboy womanizer should not be associated in a FAMILY oriented place.

You have a point, I suppose. However, I also suppose it would be possible to capture the spirit of the franchise without any allusion to all the sexuality and womanizing. Some of the other films referenced in the great movie ride are could be deemed much more offensive than a Bond movie -- granted, the whole ride isn't dedicated to them -- and also consider how the traditional stories in Disney films have been rendered 'family-safe'. Example: Hercules's parentage in 'Hercules'.

I should mention that I'm simply playing the devil's advocate here. There are some other movies that would serve as a better basis for a ride. Hm, how about another Alien ride. Indiana Jones got two attractions!

Hate to be a buzzkill.

I think this is a great plan. I'd love a Bond attraction at the Studios; however, there was a Bond attraction at Paramount's Kings Island some years ago, "License to Thrill," I believe. I think Paramount has the license from MGM for attractions, but I'm not sure. "License to Thrill" was removed many years ago and replaced by something else. I think that's gone now too, but that's not important; my point is I think MGM has already licensed the Bond to another company for attractions.

I thought MGM sold their film library to Timewarner a few years back, and it included the bond films. or was i mistaken.

If it was possable MGM would probably have a James bond Attraction already, just imagine using the EMV technology for one.

whoa...i have to take a minute to comprehend this one! having LOTR and WDW together in one place? that would blow my mind...it'd be like a dream come true!!! MGM would truly be the happiest place on earth for me.

though, LOTR already has a presence in WDW....there's two movie memorbilia stores at MGM which sale posters, magnets, and other artifacts (large medal medallions, large resin figures, etc), and a movie memorbilia store in Pleasure Island which also sales the same stuff (except the magnets...i don't think they had those).

Ah, let me Explain. This is one of the good things Eisner did. Disney didn't have very many films to work with, and he was able to get Theme Park rights to the entire MGM Film Library. But it didn't include the James Bond Films, Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and a few others. Those films had to be licensed seperately. Well, Disney bought the right to about 3min of the Wizard of Oz to use in the Great Movie Ride. After that was done, Ted Turner, the big guy at MGM, left MGM and went to WB, and took some films with him including The Wizard of Oz. Note that Bond is still MGM. So, the reason Disney doesn't do Bond, is because they can't, as the Bond fims weren't included in the original contract that Eisner got. And something to think about... Disney does own the Theme Park rights to the Harry Potter movies.

Just recently I have heard alot of things that Eisner done good for the company some years ago, why do you that he has changed over the years maybe it's the money got to him.

I fail to see why... James Bond would be an excellent ride, and Bond films are no worse then say, Indy films (violence wise) anyway. I see nothing wrong with Bond, with the exception that Disney doesn't have the rights.
