Hi, I'm new here... the name's Brett. I just started a petition, and I need help getting it started... First, let me tell you what my petition is aabout a little...

Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow first appeared in June 28th, 1929 in the Disney short, The Plow Boy. That mkes them much older then Goofy, and even Donald.

Horace and Clarabelle were always considered Disney's "odd couple" and have always been my number one favorites, along with many other fans. After Walt died, Disney made a big mistake by making Goofy and Clarabelle a couple... Horace then dissapeared. And as Goofy and Clarabelle broke up, Clarabelle too, disapeared.

They weren't seen again until A Christmas Carol came out, but only appeared for a breif moment in cameo appearances. Same thing with Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Horace then reapppeared as Mickey's adviser in Prince and the Pauper and the odd couple returned in various disney shorts sicne, and even play important roles in the House of Mouse. They have even joined Mickey and the gang in the Disney Babies series. Disney has even thought about making a TV series after Horace Horsecollar, called Maximum Horsecollar. Instead, they produced cartoons like Timon and Pumba, and 101 Dalmations.

The point is, they both used to be very popular characters, and are now secondary characters. And I don't think that it is fair to them, or Walt. This petition is to hopefully bring them back from their animated grave, and shine once again. So if you agree, or if you're a fan of this "odd couple" please sign the petition!

Hmmm....not to be negative, but you may not find a lot of support here; these characters are a bit on the obscure side, and I'm not sure that a lot of passion really exists for them, even among a lot of Disney fans. I know as a kid I used to get Horace and Goofy confused a lot. :)

Good luck, though.

Actually, they have quite a fan base. I have a yahoo group with over 1,300 fans in it, that are dying to see them come back. And I, along with many others, think they have great potential in future films. It's just a matter of getting them back into the public.

...And how could you get Horace and Goofy mixed up? One hasa wet-black nose... and the other one doesn't.

I was just browsing through Google for Horace figurines, and this thread popped up... I just thought I would put my 2 cents in.

Wilt, the only reason why you (and other people) think these characters are obscure, is because of your lack-of-knowlege about them! I mean, seriously... The only way a character can truley to be shrowded in mystery is if it was done purposley... like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy... HE is truley obscure. And if you couldn't tell the difference between a dog (who's ears are always down and flappy) and a horse (who has no black nose, and ears that always goes up) well... *giggles*

I can tell you exactly who the two are in perfect detail.

Horace - Mickey's first best friend since 1929. Highly intelligent, but a little low when it comes to common sence. He thinks of himself as a coward, but never reaveals that out loud. But when he feels as though something needs to be said or done, He says or does whatever is necessary. And what it comes to his fiance, Clarabelle, he, like many other men, feel as if he is unworthy.

Clarabelle - Minnie's first best friend since 1929. Man can this woman talk. She is the town gossip. Once she hears the word on the street, she's ready to share all she knows to the public, and maybe add in some spiffy details. She may seem a little... mean, but isn't at all. When it comes to her friends and family, she's willing to do anything. When it comes to her fiance, Horace, she tends to think alot like him, thinking she is inferior to him.

And there are more Horace & Clarabelle fans then you think. If you look hard enough, you can find fan sites devoted to those characters alone! Not to mention that they are now popping up everywhere in merchandise, future movies (yes, they're planned to be in many future movies with major parts), and they are even seen more in the Theme Parks these days!

So Brett, I think their future looks pretty bright... Your petition may not even be necessary anymore. But I would still keep it going just in case... And I was more then HAPPY to sign it.

Now why don't the rest of you sign it? I mean, heck... it only takes 2 MINUTES. How can you deny someone who is asking for help? I mean, over 94 people have veiwed this, and very few have signed... that's a little on the rude side. Fan or not.

Just my 2 cents.

I think that they were cool and all but there is probably good reason for seeing less of them. They did no trancend to the modern times too well. They are not the only characters to not stick around.

The only reason I responding is I think that Sammysam, it is you who was rude here. Wilt gave a response and because he said as a kid he got Horrace and Goofy confused you made fun of him. So as a kid you never got something like that confused? Heck they change voices in characters and kids don't notice that either. He was a kid, so I think you should cut him some slack.

And just because x amount of people read this does not mean they should sign a petition. That is there own right to do what they want with there time.

I didn't think Clarabell was that obscure. She's on "the House of Mouse" all the time. (the best Disney cartoon series ever!)

For a Disney Yahoo! Group, that's HUGE.

Maybe... but for an Animated Character Fan Base that seems small to me.

I dunno, I just don't see this fight worth the effort. Maybe we should try to get Bosco back on the air as well.:animwink:

That isn't the ENTIRE fan base. It's just the amount of members my YAHOO GROUP has... and the member number reached 1,400 earlier this morning.

>I dunno, I just don't see this fight worth the effort. Maybe we >should try to get Bosco back on the air as well.

It's my opinion that ANYTHING is worth the effort if you really want something, and if you are willing to continue fighting for it. I'm not going to let cronstructive critisism, or just plain critisism bring me down ^_^

All I was asking was for a few signatures, suggestions, and help spreading the word, like anyone one else would do if they started a petition, and maybe even look for some support. I didn't mean for this to break out in a big-huge argument, and I'm sorry for that...

And yeah, wheather you sign it or not, that's your decision and I truley respect that. But if you would be so kind to help me out and just sign it (It only takes a second), that would be great!

the URL again, is:

and if anyone DOES have any suggestions, please e-mail me at brettdawg2005@aol.com

My ears are open.

By no means. Don't misunderstand. I think what you are asking and doing is great. My comments were just that... mine. :)

I have no objections to someone standing up and trying for what they believe in. :animwink:

[drift alert]

Does anyone remember the episode of Tiny Toons where Buster and Babs resurrect Bosko, Honey, and Goopy Geer from the Acme Looniversity film vault? That was one of the best episodes...even if they were all lame characters, it was cool to see the studio acknowledge that they had been "stars" in their time.

Actually, they adapted quite well to the modern world. If you have seen House of Mouse, they seem to be the most modern "in the house" ;-)

And I know they're not the only characters, but they were at one time, MAJOR characters. And that's why I made the petition for them... and If i ever do get to work as an animator for the wonderful world of Disney, I'll be more then happy to bring up characters who have long since gone.

In all seriousness, a thirty minute block featuring older or lesser known Disney characters would be fun and interesting. Obviously you could not present them in the same way they were back then. I am curious to hear what new comic adventures and ideas you would have in store for them.

Idea's are roaming around my head all the time ^_^ Wheather they be the old characters, new characters, nintendo characters, my OWN characters, or just random thoughts and poetry ;-)

I was actually given an offer to publish a 400 paged comic book I created... But I turned them down, because I didn't feel as though I or it was ready yet.
