I'm looking forward to catching this streaming someday. I didn't think the first two quite hit the mark but Branagh is always enjoyable. And frankly, he has an impossible standard to live up to as he'll never top Dead Again for a period mystery. It's just perfection. ❤️

I'd go see this. I enjoyed the first two movies.

Did you?

I didn't see the first one, and don't even know what it was. But I did go see Death On The Nile last year. And I disliked it.

I wanted to love it. I was a HUGE Poirot fan 30 years ago when PBS used to air episodes in the early/mid 1990's. Plus it had French and Saunders in it, who can do no wrong in my book. And I enjoyed the 1974 version of the movie, even though it was a bit campy (and not in a good way).

But I thought this latest version was crap. It was oddly historically inaccurate. And it was also rather trampy and trashy in a few spots, and needlessly so. Agatha Christie was always sophisticated, but never trampy or trashy.

They sort of burned me on that, and now I won't go see this Haunting In Venice unless people start absolutely raving about it. I could have become a core customer for these films, but last year's Death On The Nile really turned me off.

I will await real reviews from real people, but I don't have much confidence in this one.

The first one was Murder on the Orient Express. I thought it was refreshing instead of being pompous like some PBS Masterpiece theater version.

Branagh's Orient Express was much better than his Nile.

I would watch the first again (and have done), but once was enough for the second. If I want to see Death on the Nile, I'll spin up the PBS David Suchet version.

I actually thought this was an original horror film up until about a week ago. The marketing has been playing up horror and downplaying that it's part of the Murder on the Orient Express/Death on the Nile franchise. Maybe it's because those movies underperformed and they feel a Haunting in Venice would benefit from a rebrand?

Have my tickets for opening weekend, very excited for another installment in this franchise! Loved Orient Express and DotN … filled the Nile with all the champagne in the world.

I'd forgotten this movie was coming out already. Is it me, or is September flying by?

This movie apparently had its budget "whittled down" to $60 Million. I'll start tracking it later this weekend over in the Box Office thread. But after being very disappointed with Death On The Nile last year, I won't be going to see this one.

Did you really? I had such high hopes for the last one; a Poirot film with French & Saunders???

My two big obsessions from the early/mid 1990's all in one film??? o_O

Perhaps my hopes were too high because of that? So I'll sit this one out, for now at least.
