A Goofy-themed dark ride - with no place for it to go?!

Put it back in DHS where the backlot theatre is. I would think you could build a whole section around toons back in there. If you had to you could even expand it to the side street from streets of america leading to the backlot theatre. It might actually have a flow to it moving from muppets back into that.

You're confusing threads here. This is on one kind of dark ride themed to a Disney character, not to a whole new land with Mickey and the gang. In that instance, I'm not even doing Toontown anymore. I'm doing something called Mickey Avenue, which is the subject of its own thread: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/mickey-avenue-at-dhs-open-brainstorming.862624/. Go check that out sometime.

Not sure if someone said this but you could put it inside Camp Minnie and Micky in Animal Kingdom

Yes, it has been said before. But rumors are persisting that the supposedly-upcoming Pandora/Avatarland/whatever will be in the spot that was once occupied by Camp Minnie-Mickey. People have said that it was always a temporary area. Now some of the character meet-n-greets, at least for Mickey and Minnie, are being relocated to some shop called Beastly Bazaar (I have no idea where that is). Even the Lion King stage show that was at CMM is now being relocated to the Africa section.

So in regards of a Goofy dark ride in the CMM section of the Animal Kingdom, that seems more and more like a moot point now.

Hello mharrington,

I think I've figured out a solution to your Toontown location problem. In bandying back and forth on my thread about an Indiana Jones themed land at the Magic Kingdom, it became evident that such a land might be better suited for Animal Kingdom next to Asia. That freed up the area I originally envisioned for that land for a possible Toontown. It would be behind Fantasyland, basically wedged between the Magic Kingdom Railroad, Fantasyland, and the Rivers of America with access by railroad and boats on the Rivers of America. In addressing another post, I also came up with the idea of a pirates land (based on Port Royal, Jamaica) to the west of this (basically northwest of the Rivers of America beyond the railroad track and between the canal, Floridian Way and Caribbean Way). That could be for a new Pirates of the Caribbean ride to replace the old one, which has generally been considered by many to be inferior to its Disneyland counterpart. My post explains it a little more thoroughly on the Indiana Jones thread. However, I thought the location for a Toontown might come as welcome news for you, assuming the powers that be decide to undertake such an expansion. Great ideas though!

As long as there is a Storybook Circus, I don't think I'd be able to have a Toontown. Several elements of Toontown, at least from a character perspective, already appear in Storybook Circus.

The only other thing I can think of to do with the Goofy-themed ride concept (reverting back to the "Goofy's Motor Mania" ride of old) is to revive the Manhattan Motor Mania concept thought of so long ago for Tokyo DisneySea. Here's what Jim Hill Media said on it: http://jimhillmedia.com/editor_in_c...ake-it-into-tokyo-disneysea.aspx#.UWDYYFdodM-. At the Animal Kingdom, with Camp Minnie-Mickey out of the question, the only way a Goofy ride would be able to fit there (a road trip where Goofy finds wildlife) is if it was in a North America section. And even then, how would it be able to compete with Kilimanjaro Safaris?

Or I guess I could create a brand-new fifth WDW park and put the Goofy ride in there, even though I'm still agonizing over how to do the theme there.

Hello mharrington,

If there is too much overlap between Storybook Circus and a new Toontown, then perhaps they could try a different theme. Maybe they could do something like a Villains Land behind Fantasyland (kind of like some of the ideas floated for Universal, though with Disney's animated and non-animated villains). I believe you floated an idea where Goofy is framed, so it might work. They could also address a number of other stories and characters such as Captain Hook from Peter Pan, Ursula from the Little Mermaid, the wicked stepsisters from Cinderella, the wicked queen from Snow White, and on and on. While there may not be that many genuine villains from the films relating to the characters found in Toontown, part of the Villains Land could more or less be in a sense the opposite version (or mirror version) of Storybook Circus. Bascially taking a darker approach with many of those same characters. Such a new land behind Fantasyland based around Disney villains might in a sense serve as a response by WDW to the Harry Potter Land expansion at Universal Orlando. While I would be all for a fifth gate, I doubt it will happen for at least a decade, if not longer.

I never mentioned anything about Goofy being framed. Here's a list of all the ideas I've had:

  • A dark ride in the style of Mr. Toad/Roger Rabbit (the one I've thought of long ago: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/a-goofy-ride.109925/)
  • Goofy About Road Trips (some have suggested putting it in the Animal Kingdom and making it something of looking for wildlife; some suggested it go in Camp Minnie-Mickey, but I'm not sure given the rumors of Pandora/Avatarland being built in this temporary land)
  • A new version of Superstar Limo with Goofy as chauffeur (but I have no idea how well that might go over, if the old Superstar Limo was any indication)
  • A ride similar to the former Dick Tracy Crimestoppers, with Goofy as the detective (similar to the old Goofy cartoon "How To Be a Detective")
Pick any one you think is best.

The thing is, I'm used to the castle parks and Epcot for putting in new attractions. That was the main reason why I thought of a new fifth park, as a way to put the Goofy ride, whatever it may be, into a park in an actual resort and not have to be limited only to an imagined park in the middle of nowhere. Yes, the fifth park is imagined, too, but at least it's put in an existent resort.

As I said before, the Goofy About Road Trip ride is not going to be able to fit into the Animal Kingdom with Camp Minnie-Mickey (soon to be) gone. And how could it possibly fit into Hollywood Studios? I want to make it feel like an actual ride, not just be filmed of us doing a movie of a ride, as it would feel if it were in the Studios. I'm not the kind of guy who likes to just force random rides into the Studios park just because they're themed to movies and TV.

The only way that the Goofy road trip ride would fit into the Animal Kingdom now is if there were a whole North American section of the park to go with it. I'm envisioning a ride that practically cannibalizes the Kilimanjaro Safari, except with North American animals.
