A few things some posters on this message board are WRONG about (in my opinion)...and a few you were spot on about...

Not a hateful post here... Just got back from my first trip in 12 years, and my wife and kids first trip ever.

I got a ton of great info from WDW Magic and I"m so glad I found this wonderful site.

I noticed a lot of negativity about many things over the last couple of months and I think some of it (not all) is misaligned, so here is a relatively brief list of things that seem to be incorrect from my recent experience..

1.) By far the biggest thing -- ATTENDANCE IS NOT DOWN! I have gone around the first of October about 6 times in the last 40ish years and was also on the CP in the Fall of 96 and Fall of 97... And I can conclusively say that in all my Fall visits I have NEVER seen the park so busy for this time of year.. Every park was slammed by mid-afternoon... We waited in lines that are typically short (i.e. Spaceship Earth, People Mover, Grand Fiesta Tour) for around 30 minutes each.. Thankfully we had FP's for the larger rides and we rope dropped a few that we didn't have lined up. I have seen countless posts about how the Park attendance is slacking and that's why people are getting canned and what not, but for the last 8ish days, the Disney suits have to be thrilled... I"m just sayin....

2.) Cast Members by and large were very well trained and extremely personable. Another thing I have read a lot lately is how Cast Members have "lost the magic".. While we did run across a few buzzkills (mostly of the older generation.. retirees from New Jersey are just not happy people it seems..lol), the vast majority treated us like royalty and interacted with my young kids in ways that simply made me smile from ear to ear.. The CPers were fantastic and I made a point to chat with them when I could and every one I talked to was pleasant and genuinely thrilled to work there..

3.) We very much enjoyed Navi River Journey... that is all... :)

4.) It is EXTREMELY difficult to try and keep your young kids on any type of normal schedule.. I saw several posts stating that that you HAVE to do this to keep your kids "happy".. Well we found with Lunch reservations almost every day and FP times scattered about, if we tried to leave the park at any time and take naps at our resort, we would undoubtedly miss a good bulk of what we had scheduled. And yes I know, you should only do what you can do in the time you have, but even at parks like AK where our kids are too young to do any of the big ticket experiences, we had to rush around like crazy just to catch showtimes and FP times. ( I guess this in hindsight isn't something the message board got wrong but more of an observation to those of you thinking you can just eat when you want and sleep when you want... it just won't happen unless you are going to all the parks multiple times in a trip).

So here are the things you guys most definitely got RIGHT..

1.) Mobile Order is AWESOME and it should be available at every quick service location! If you are going to WDW, do yourself a favor and use it..

2.) The Dining Plan is more complicated than it needs to be... so true... Especially when it comes to snacks at places like Disney Springs... Everywhere has rules of what is a snack or a QS meal... And many of you suggested to use your snack credits for things like Sodas and Juices rather than ONLY the big ticket snack things... SO SO TRUE!!! We lugged around a cooler with water and Gatorade all day every day and ended up with half of our snack credits left on our final day... Why oh why didn't we just use them for sodas and what not? Carrying Water around for yourself is always a good thing, but in the future (if we use the DDP) we will just use those snack credits for what they are meant for... snacks... even if they don't constitute a a 7 dollar "triple-decker-mickey-sundae-of-destruction" We got a lot of useful info from DFB videos but I"m a little annoyed with how they preach "Don't waste snack credits on common things!" On the contrary, use your snack credits for things you will eat or drink and don't horde them and have to redeem them for 200 bucks worth of Goofy Candy on the last day of your vacation...

3.) Don't go crazy on Character Dining... OMG how I wish we had rethought this when we made our Dining Reservation 180 days ago... Since we had the DDP, we decided to do a Character meal every day except one... It was too much! Even for my 4 and 5 year old, they had lunch with Mickey 3 times in one week! We had 2 princess lunches (with the same princesses at both lunches..) If you are like us and have young ones, schedule maybe 2 good character meals and do yourself a favor and schedule a "normal" meal for your other dining option.. Character Meals are new to me as I never did them in my younger days... But they are a ZOO... The food at some are not bad, but it is so rushed and stressful, they just aren't that fun...

Anyway... Just wanted to post some observations based on what I had read over the last couple of months as compared to what I actually saw while there..

Yes, it's nice to read "actual" opinions from a family that just went to Disney to have some FUN! I also agree with most of what you said. One thing that is correct on this forum, is that FP has made even the "lesser" ride waits way longer than they used to be (or should be).

Just wanted to chime in because my opinins often differ from the majority on here lol.

1. Attendance not gone down as much as it has SHIFTED.
Sure 20 some odd years ago October was low crowds.
But in recent years October has become VERY crowded mostly due to F&W and MNSSHP becoming more and more popular and the fact that people were told "go in October its not crowded".
On the other hand July is not nearly as crazy as it used to be.
Also did you happen to go September 30th or October 1st to Epcot? If so then its not surprising to me int he slightest that the lines were long.

2. I certainly don't think CM's have lost the magic.

3. Meh. That is all lol.

4. I have NEVER thought that kids "need" a normal schedule at Disney. My opinion is that when kids are tired enough they can and will take a nap ANYWHERE. That may be in the stroller or in a booth at Sci-Fi, or
while sitting in the Hall Of Presidents.
I think the problem is when parents push the kids too much. If little Emily is screaming her head off while in line for a ride then its probably time to get the stroller and a snack and people watch for a few minutes instead of staying in the line and going back and forth between bribes and threats. Ya know?

___________

1. Yep love mobile order!

2. I don't find it complicated...

3. Yes lots of character meals can really start wearing you out. First too much food and second so much interaction. Sometimes I just want to have a relaxing normal meal and get away from the parks atmosphere for an hour.

Really because I never wait over 20 minutes for a ride when prior to FP I waited much longer for even the less popular attractions.

Great info! Would love to know which character meals you didn't enjoy? We have a ADR for Cinderella's Royal Table (to meet princesses), Be Our Guest (to meet Beast), and Tusker Hall (gotta see Mickey!). Any feedback on these?

What an odd thread, suggesting that "the board" has consensus opinions on certain things, and that a single person's differing opinions are any more or less valid than the so-called majority.

There isn't a single subject in here that doesn't garner a variety of opinions when discussed.

Well, I do think my opinions are more valid than yours, but, that's just my opinion! :joyfull:

Well said.. I was a little surprised how many parents were more or less forcing their kids on rides when they were clearly having a meltdown... Don't get me wrong, we had our meltdowns too, but we did our best to take our kids out of busy areas not only as a courtesy to other guests, but also its better (at least for our kids) to let them chill out and cool off and then properly assess what they are able to really do... I was impressed (surprised) at how well our kids did in the lines we did wait in... minus the constant playing with the ropes/chains for the queue lines... ugh..

Ofcourse that is true, but for some of these topics it was brought up time and time and time again.. I really went into this trip thinking crowds would be moderate based on what was routinely posted on this board and it simply wasn't the case... Its not a big deal at all, but just an observation for others who may garner a lot of info from here...

The board does have consensus opinions on quite a few topics. If you have been around here long enough it’s easy to pick up on what the majority thinks. They majority isn’t always correct either. As someone whose in the parks all the time I laugh at some of ideas presented as facts here when they are just opinions of certain members.

Great info! Would love to know which character meals you didn't enjoy? We have a ADR for Cinderella's Royal Table (to meet princesses), Be Our Guest (to meet Beast), and Tusker Hall (gotta see Mickey!). Any feedback on these?

Here's my rundown with mine and my wife's opinion.. (we generally had the same experience lol):

1.) Chef Mickey's (Contemporary): Food was ok, Character Interaction felt rushed, Atmosphere was meh... (I should have requested a monorail view.. my mistake)..

2.) Tusker House (AK): Great Buffet, Slightly better Character Interaction, still felt rushed.. Atmosphere where the tables are is pretty dull, but the Buffet area is really nice and wide open...

3.) Cinderella's RT (MK): Atmosphere is great, Cinderella was great, but most of our other princesses (except for Jasmine) were kinda lame and seemed a bit disinterested... Snow White that day especially had an attitude.. it was almost funny to the wife and I... The staff at Cinderella's RT are generally older and I"m sorry but some of those older ladies just need a dose of happiness... This was arguably the most "magical" restaurant in all of WDW, yet I"ve had better interactions with servers at the Waffle House... The food was quite good though and I"m still glad we went, but we will probably never do it again..

4.) Ohana (Poly): Did the Breakfast Character Dining here. This was probably my personal favorite as I loved the atmosphere, and its family style.. The food was a tad cooler than I would have liked, but our server was great and meeting Lilo and Stitch (along with Mickey and someone else I can't even rememeber..lol) was a big hit.. The house passion fruit juice was pretty gross though and very watered down...luckily mimosas...ahh...

5.) Minnie's Seasonal Diner (Studios): I liked the buffet options, but WOW this was the most rushed feel of all the buffets.. Our older lady server kept trying to take plates away... Kids and wife went to the bathroom and she came by like 3 times trying to clear things away... I actually had to ask her to just check back after about 10-15 minutes which I know she didn't like.. Characters were about the same as Chef Mickey's..

6.) Akershus (EPCOT): This was my wife's favorite I think.. Great Atmosphere... Felt more relaxed.. Princesses were much more engaged with the kids.. Food was pretty good.. Our server was fabulous.. Best of the week (named Ida I think)..

p.s.-- we did go to Be Our Guest for lunch and were very impressed. The inside of that place is amazing... I would love to do the dinner there as I think it would be a better option than others...

Thanks for posting and glad you had fun. One thing I disagree with slightly is we go every year in Sept or Oct and this year was very quiet. We arrived on Sept 11th and left Sept 26th and it felt the quietest Sept for well over 10 years. We did the MK on the 13th and arrived at 8am and did everything we wanted with no more than 10 minute waits (Speedway, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Big Thunder, Mansion, Mermaid, Philharmagic, Space Mountain, COP, People Mover and Monsters Inc). Even towards the end of our trip, whilst busier it was still quiet for September.
