A Disney Honeymoon (or how to get your husband to buy into the Disney lifestyle)

Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy this trip report! My husband and just got back from our Disney World and Disney Cruise Line honeymoon, and to help with my back to reality depression, I've decided to start on this trip report.

I'll give you guys a little bit of background first. Before this trip, I had been to Disney World five times (once as a child, once as a teen, and three times as an adult). And every time I've loved it. Whenever I see Cinderella Castle it's like I'm nine years old again and seeing it for the first time. As an adult, I traveled with my best friend Megan (a fellow Disney World fan) and her son Brett. But our last trip was two years ago! I was seriously having withdraw.

This time I went with my husband, Justin. He has never been to Disney before (I know its hard to imagine). He as tolerated my Disney obsession very well. But of course when we were talking about were we wanted to honeymoon my first thought was "Disney!" Justin resisted, he wanted to do a cruise. So our compromise was to do a Disney Cruise. I've lived - and will probably always live - in Illinois, so if I was already going to Florida, there was no way I was going to miss a trip the Disney World. So after a couple months of constant pestering he caved.

Because I paid for half of the wedding myself, we honestly didn't have the money to go right after the wedding, which was in May. So we used most of the wedding money to pay for the trip and went on our honeymoon from October 4th through the 11th.

As usual, I booked my ADRs and planned the itinerary, which I honestly think is half the fun. I was ready.

But then that stupid thing called reality hits me. And by that I mean a deer...I hit a deer two days before we were to leave. I hit a deer in my BRAND NEW CAR. No one needed a vacation like I did. We drove to St. Louis on Oct 3 - after Justin got off of work - and stayed at the Best Western by the airport. It wasn't the greatest hotel, but we would have spent that much in parking for a week. If we hadn't had stayed the night in St. Louis we would have had to leave around 3 in the morning to make our early flight. They had a shuttle to the airport and parking was included. It was totally worth it.

Some time around 7am, waiting for our flight.

We stayed at the All Star Music. I had booked a preferred room and it was well worth the extra money. We were in the Calypso building, right next to the main building.

DSC00923_zps3a613ab8.jpg

We went to Downtown Disney to pick up a couple personalized Christmas ornaments, then headed over to Epcot for some drinking around the world. This was a big highlight in how I convinced Justin to go to Disney in the first place, and I thought that after being up since 430 that morning, it would be a nice, relaxed evening.

IMG_0131_zps3d46abb9.jpg

But of course by then we were starving. And when my husband gets hungry, he gets the temperament of a toddler, so we stopped at the first place we saw trying to pacify him. It was the Electric Umbrella.

DSC00855_zps91eec10b.jpg

Has anyone ever watched the YouTube video with Hitler trying to get an ADR to Le Cellier and can't and he talks about how the Electric Umbrella stinks? If not, please watch it, its freaking hilarious. But getting back to the TR, Hitler was right - the Electric Umbrella is NOT good. We both got bacon cheeseburgers and I was expecting something like Cosmic Rays. I still don't understand how the same food can be so different. Oh well, learned my lesson.

But the best way to get over that lapse in judgement is a fiesta margarita from Mexico!

Did anyone notice all the clouds in the background of the last picture? Yeah, I started raining, then pouring, and then raining some more....but more on that tomorrow.

After whooping Justin's butt in space ranger spin and some Tomorrowland shopping, it was time for Space Mountain, which we both loved!

DSC00934_zpseb90b290.jpg

After Space Mountain, it was starting to rain...boo hiss. So we rode the TTA hoping it would die down. And can I just say that I was SUPER EXCITED that they started paging for Mr. Tom Morrow again!

DSC00936_zpsd24ecb6b.jpg

And of course, it was still raining. We walked though Fantasyland and I tried to snap some pictures of the new Fantasyland.

I must have horrible luck, because about a week after we we're there, they opened the new Fantasyland for a soft opening :(

We didn't ride anything in Fantasyland. I like Peter Pan's Flight just as much as the next person - but not enough to wait in the stand by line for an hour!

Next up was the Haunted Mansion. This is probably my favorite non thrill ride. Justin was, again, not overly impressed. But I remember riding it as a kid and being really scared in the stretching room and nervous through the whole ride. I kept telling him that when we have kids we have to take them when they are young enough to believe that the haunted mansion is REALLY haunted and the castle is where Cinderella REALLY lives.

DSC00940_zps4c3d33c1.jpg

It finally stopped raining, but of course by the time we got to Frontierland, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain had massive waits, so we rode Pirates instead. I figured Justin wouldn't be a huge fan because it's a slow ride but he surprised me when he told me he enjoyed it.

We headed back to Main Street USA to the bakery. I'd only gotten snacks there before, but the food is awesome. The turkey sandwich was so big we were able to split it.

DSC00941_zps09bf2c9b.jpg

Next up was some more fun on the Peoplemover and we picked up our wristbands for the Halloween Party!

Notice the Mickey shirt Justin is wearing? He bought it voluntarily!! My plan was coming together very nicely...(evil laugh)

Megan:
1. Just wait until you go next year with a baby, a 10 year old and your husband and we'll talk.
2. The Magical Express will take care of your luggage if you arrive before 10pm. I think when we did use it we got to Orlando just after that.
3. I was also sad that we missed IllumiNations, but the Rosa Regale was DELISH! It just tastes better in Epcot :)
4. While the Mickey waffle machine you gave me for my bridal shower is awesome, Disney World still has the best.
5. Agreed, I can't go without you. Maybe next time I will have a kid and we can rent a villa from someone in the vacation club.

Well we know how brett is. Hes a foodie snob like us. Luke will be eating strained peas so he won't care. The hubby may be a different story. Difference between you and me though, I will say "do what you want. Ill meet you at fish and chips" but im a mean wife hahahaha.

By now it was getting close to 7, and people without the Halloween party tickets were starting to leave. We were able to ride Splash Mountain with NO wait. Honestly, its worth going to the holiday parties just so you don't have to wait in long lines.

It was getting close to parade time, so we found a good spot and waiting for the Headless Horseman to ride!

We had some time in between the parade and the firework, so we were able to do a little shopping at the Emporium and found a spot to watch the fireworks, which were amazing!

Saturday had arrived. Megan - this was our best day ever! (food wise anyway). We ate at my three all time favorite restaurants at Disney World, and probably the universe for that matter. Up first was breakfast at Chef Mickeys! Justin and I had matching shirts - and ears! My shirt said "I'll be your Minnie" and Justin's said "I'll be your Mickey", plus we had the bride and groom mickey ears.

And let me tell you, Minnie just LOVED our shirts and our ears. She also saw our 'happily ever after' buttons and wanted to see my ring.

And we got a free cupcake!

After a very filling breakfast, we took a lap on the monorail before heading to Epcot

We took a couple trips around on the monorail before heading to Epcot. While we had some time to chill, Justin said that their was just too much to do in 4 days at Disney World. I totally agreed, and said that this was the reason why when I had gone with my friend Megan we had stayed for 6 to 7 days - this way we were able to go to a park in the morning, go to the hotel and nap, then go back to a park in the evening. Justin nodded and said, "next time we come that's what we'll have to do." I agreed, but inside I was jumping for joy!! He had agreed to a second trip! Disney magic had to be at work here! I'm not sure if he has finally stopped trying to fight my Disney obsession, or it was beginning to rub off on him

Since our ADR at Chef Mickeys was so early, we were able to get to Epcot literally minutes after it opened.

We were able to ride Soarin' (woohoo!) and heading to the World Showcase to kill some time before our next ADR at Le Cellier

We both had the same thing - the wild mushroom filet mignon and I had a cup of the canadian cheddar cheese soup, which my husband ended up eating half of lol.

Side note: I LOVE the pretzel bread! And Justin was very excited about the Labatt Blue beer that Le Cellier had. He has family in Maine and has had this brand of beer there, but since we live in Southern Illinois, its hard to find by us.

This was the first time that I didn't get the prime rib, because they don't have it anymore! I personally prefer the prime rib to the filet, but the mushrooms, sauce, and risotto was most excellent.

And just in case any one that reads this as any say in the decision, please ring back the prime rib!!

LOVE YOUR TR! Congrats on your marriage and your honeymoon! We Disney-mooned too, and it was also my husbands first time...he's a total convert!!

On a side note- I just chuckled when I saw your Labatt Blue! Here in Buffalo, it flows like water, esp. w/ college kids! It's everyone's 'go to' beer here b/c we're so close to the border. I can't imagine what they charged you for it at WDW b/c all alcohol costs an arm and a leg, but here it's very inexpensive. You and your husband should visit Buffalo! :) Glad you enjoyed it!

Congrats on your wedding and Disneymoon! I am loving your report. My DH and I also stayed in the Calypso building for our Disneymoon almost 2 years ago. Our biggest regret was not remembering to ask a CM if we could purchase the print of Mickey conducting. You have a nice photo of it. My DH is a music teacher so I have to get that for him. Any chance you noticed who the artist was?

Congrats on your honeymoon and a great trip. I hope your conversion continues, he is off to a promising start. By the way, what part of Southern Illinois are you from? I live in southeast missouri. Can't wait to read the rest of the TR.
