A Disney Country Resort Destination

Hello and Welcome. First off I just want to say thank you for taking the time to read this thread. About two years ago a friend and I started batting around ideas for things we wanted to see in Disney World, just like many other people, and a small list was started with scribbles and notes jumbled everywhere. Well this past semester at school, and our last one, I unearthed the notebook, and after laughing and reminiscing about it we thought it was an awesome way to keep ourselves from going crazy as we waited for graduation. And so our Disney Destination was born.

I’ve been lurking quietly around these boards for years, occasionally poking my head out to say something, usually random, but I thought that what we have going here is turning out to be interesting and unique. So I thought why not share it with other people who understand the kind of fun we’re having (cause our friends think we’re slightly out of it, but then some of them think Oswald and Mickey are the same character) My friend isn’t on these boards, so it’s just me sharing for the most part. And we have some basic stuff but are not going through and fleshing most of it out with actual storylines and themeing, the first draft sounded like a marketing plan, not our finest work. And we recently added a fourth park, and the spark for me to get it up on the web.

Our intention for the destination is not to be a greatest hits park, but we did take elements from all over as inspiration and occasionally decided to put a clone in, but overall it the storyline from one version, with the track design of another version, and so on were used. As well as we strived to think of new and unique ideas all over, and organize the attractions in a way that makes sense (Monsters Inc in Tomorrowland anyone?)

I’ll officially start the park info in another post, coming up next, and hopefully that will be one of the few that is mostly list form, because that can be boring. And now that we’re out of school and working some summer jobs, I’ve been elected (or forced I’m not sure yet) to create some concept art, that’s what I get for being the Theatre Design major, I don’t know if I’ll have stuff done when I post about the attractions but I will get stuff up as soon as it hits the presses. And because I’m sure there will be color commentary on going, instead of being awkward and constantly saying “my friend” I’ll call her H… it makes me feel like Gossip Girl, but they found a way that works.

So until next time, which should be in like 3 minutes, thank you for reading, and I/We hope you enjoy what we are coming up with.

Overview Pt.1

So, our destination is called Disney Country. After going back and forth through different names, this seemed to fit the best. And when I was young and naive I had once tried to design a resort with this name, it still might be in the bowels of the forum. The resort is meant to live somewhere in the US, but at the same time somewhere warmer, possibly Texas, but there really is no set location. So based on that and the fact that there’s Disney World and Disneyland, we felt we needed to keep up with the naming theme, and Disney Nation didn’t seem right, so Disney Country it is.

On to the parks, here we go.

Magic Kingdom – (because it’s almost a requirement,) yes it’s the standard idea for the park. In our effort to organize things almost to an OCD level, we found that many of our main lands have two separate sub-lands, so we’re doing our best to make everything flow story-wise.
Lands:
Main Street
-the classic start to the Magic Kingdom

Adventureland
-Sublands: Jungle Oasis and Tortuga Island
-Really nothing unexpected for the two themeing.

Frontierland
-We kind of shot ourselves in the foot because of Tortuga Island dictating the placement (as you will see) but I think we are handling it fine.

Storybookland
-Sublands: Enchanted Forest and Storybook Village (were trying to think of a better name for Storybook Village)
-You might think this is just an expanded part of Fantasyland, and it might be, but as H pointed out, we needed to get the Haunted Mansion in a different land, and Tokyo claimed the actual Fantasyland so we improvised, and it all exploded from there. And I didn’t want to call a land Critter Country, but that’s a conversation for another day.

Fantasyland
-sublands: Small World Plaza and Royal Courtyard
-for Fantasyland we wanted to make some sense of It’s a Small World, so we gave it its own little area, with a couple of other classics of the land. And Royal Courtyard is your standard theme of Fantasyland, our castle- Snow White’s Castle.

Toontown
Sublands: Toontown City and Toontown City Fair
-One could argue (as I did) that if the two sublands differ by one word, does it make it two different lands? H says it does. The difference is that Toontown City is a more standard Toontown, like Disneyland, and City Fair is a carnival themed area, with some classic Carnival and Festival rides and Games.
Tomorrowland
Sublands: Intergalactic Fair and World of Tomorrow
-Tomorrowland has gotten reps for being both, with Space Mountain and Innoventions and Carousel of Progress all together. So we’re finding the happy balance.

Next on the Park List, Disney Studios (the other two are more original concepts.) But the studio concept is receiving a makeover (basically what we think Disney would have made the Studios if it never had the production studio connected)

Studio Square
-Celebration more of the end product of a Studio, IE the movie premier or opening night in the Theater.

The Backlot
-The part of the park that deals with making movies, okay a no brainer there.

Muppetland
-What I’m calling my baby, and what it says, one stop shopping for the muppets.

Pixar Place
-Why mess with a good thing?

Animation Courtyard
-I’m starting to feel this park is very self explanatory.

TV Land (again we need a better name)
-We had a great idea for this land, but then Pushing Daises got canceled and our dream of eating pie with Emerson Cod died with it.

G Force Records
-Disney came up with a great fictional Music producer and so we wanted to expand on the idea.

We are also throwing around the thought of a Marvel area, that has the working title of Marvel Center, but a decision hasn’t been reached. Also haven’t thought of a Park Icon, but the notes I have are something with the entrance to the Great Movie Ride, but not the Chinese theatre.

Okay park three which I think might be a little scandalous, because we’re trying to attract the teen in everyone with a more thrill park, but there still is many family friendly attractions. And we’re not going Six Flags style with Roller Coasters just chillin’ on the side of the road, but we are going with Thrill seeking roller coasters, that occasionally, fly over walkways, the idea is more Islands of Adventure, in spirit but it’s not our model. So with that the park is called Worlds of Disney. And in short, it’s a peak into some of the unique and imaginative locations Disney Animated Features visit.

Fairy Tale Plaza
-Themed after Beauty and the Beast and serves as a sort of Main Street. And the second Castle park Icon of the Beast’s Castle is here.

Agrabah
-Hey look its Aladdin.

Kuzkotopia
-What we are calling out Kiddie Land. The idea is to be more fun and zany than thrilling. And Kronk, he’s a must.

Ocean Heights
-We mixed the Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo and Journey to Atlantis into a land that is under the sea themed.

Dark Hallows
-a real fun one, here is everyone’s Villains Paradise. Originally we thought of putting Fantasmic here, but then an Idea for a killer Night time Parade and firework show, possibly combo, and decided to move the show to another park.

Olympus Place
-our love for Hercules needed to be represented, and yeah right now it’s a small land, but Meg needs some lovin’ bad, oh and Phil too, I guess we can love him too.

Wonderland
-The discussion of do we model it after the classic cartoon or the Tim Burton movie came up. I wanted cartoon for sure, H was a flip-flopper, but I won out in the end. (Insert evil laugh here)

The Wide Woods
-Another combo land and I think the largest planed land here. We’re mashing up part Snow White (mainly the Seven Dwarves,) Pocahontas, and Robin Hood, in a forest… because we can.

And our fourth gate, just don’t ask what’s all in it cause we are still thinking that all out. But taking the idea of Disney Sea, we have its other side, Disney Earth. Original, yet not, it is allowing us to really research this crazy awesome globe we call home and are finding so much out. The concept is taken from Disney Sea, the World Showcase and Animal Kingdom, creating a look around each continent while creating a more general and themed to the roof design.

The rundown of lands:
International Gardens
The American Colonies
European Coast
The Far East
Down Under
Arctic Adventure
The Savannah
The Amazon
The Lost World
(though copyrights might force us to change that)

Okay, I’m going to call that a rest for now. Up next: the added parks/entertainment and the Resorts. Thanks for reading.

I love the idea too! I like that it has the classics but also seems to pull in so much more classic Disney then what the current parks do while keeping everything up to date with current trends. I look forward to hearing more!!:sohappy:

Extra Park and Recreation

Wow that last post was WAY longer than I thought it was going to be, I apologize for that. I am going to try my hardest to keep the rest down in size.

Also thanks for the comments so far, it’s awesome that you are liking the originally already from the little that's been posted, I hope I can live up to the claims now.

Now in the ongoing process of an Overview of the resort, I would like to introduce our start of the “extra” parks… In other words, the water park and such.

First off, Mystic Isle Water Park. A standard water park, with the theme drawn from the mysterious and adventurous places of mythology. In other words, a mix of Greek, Mythology, Mayan ruins, Atlantis and others. (were still in the planning stages, this could change)

Next is a new idea in the world of Disney. Adventure Rock Park is an outdoor paradise of recreation and experiences. Mountain Biking Trails, Kayaking, Rope courses, Zip Lines as well as Bungee Jumping and other thrills.

And finally in this section, a cornerstone of the resort, the downtown style district. We’re calling it the Disney Town Center and by cornerstone we are linking the Magic Kingdom and Disney Studio Parks as well as three of the Deluxe Resorts to the Town Center. The Town Center features three districts. The Marketplace, much like WDW’s Marketplace more specialty shops and a low key feeling, also the entrance area for Magic Kingdom. Next is the Grove, our Adult district of the reinvention of Pleasure Island. And no Adventurers Club will not be making an appearance, we found a similar concept though (it’s an expanded version of an existing restaurant. Ummm, it should make more sense when we get there.) And then finally, rounding out the Town Center, The Promenade. The more high energy family fun in the night time area, think the West Side of WDW. This district also leads to the entrance for Disney Studios Park.

Okay, so I’m going to stop it there for sake of not having a monster post again. Coming Soon the resorts (possibly tonight.) Until next time.

Can't wait to hear about the resorts. One of my favorite things about Disney is choosing the resort and exploring all of them!

Deluxe Resorts

I’m back to continue with, what are we on? 56th? Post of the over view of Disney Country. And now we’re talking about the resorts.

So, much like WDW, Disney Country’s resorts are categorized by price with Deluxe, Moderate, and Value. As for Vacation Club resorts we included a few but not every deluxe resort has a Vacation Club component. I’m going to separate the resorts out into two posts, to break it up. So here we go.

Deluxe

The Magic Kingdom Resort
-Located in front of the Magic Kingdom, creating the barrier between the Town Center and the Entrance to the park.
-Theme: New England Victorian inspired. (think Beach Club Resort as inspiration)
-Has a Vacation Club tower and is the signature resort of the property. And includes rooms that look down Main Street.

Disney’s Royal Resort
-Located between the Grove and Promenade of the Town Center.
-Theme: Hip and Trendy (think Contemporary resort but with vibrant colors) with the Prince and Princesses showcased in different ways.

Disney’s Golden Era Resort
-Located between the Promenade and Disney Studios Park.
-Theme: Classic Hollywood and Art Deco
-Has Vacation Club bungalows and 10 story tower that has a few rooms overlooking Disney Studios.

The Garden Resort and Spa
-Located near Worlds of Disney Park
-Theme: Garden and contemporary tranquil
-In other words, building in the style of Frank Gehry , with sea foam blues and dark woods. And a lot of garden space

Olympus Resort
-Located near Worlds of Disney Park
-Theme: Greek Mythology
-Has Vacation Club tower
-Funny story about this one, we were talking about the resorts and I made the joke that we should just copy some Vegas hotels (such as Caesar’s Palace)and then we both had the same idea, Greek Mythology. So it’s not as original as it could be, but hey it’s a fun place.)

Camelot Resort
-Located near Worlds of Disney Park
-Theme: Medieval Time Period and Folklore.
- This is what started the Vegas talk; we thought Excalibur was tacky and that we could do it better, so we did.

Metropolis Resort
-Located Near Disney Earth
-Theme: Big Cities
-Has Vacation Club Tower

Cherry Blossom Resort and Spa
-Located Near Disney Earth
-Theme: The Orient
-We are still working out some details on this one, but it’s going well so far.

Moderate and Value Resorts

Continuing on with the resorts

Moderate

Disney Island Resort
-Located around the Worlds of Disney area
-Theme: An Island paradise
-Set on an island

The Adventurer Resort
-Located around the Worlds of Disney area
-Theme: exotic locations around the world

Riverwalk Resort
-Located around Disney Earth
-Theme: hard to say, Craftsmen style and the Shire?

Disney Tuscan Hills Resort
-Located around Disney Earth
-Theme: Tuscany

Value

Streets of America Resort
-Located around the Worlds of Disney area
-Theme: America

Disney’s Animation Inn
-Located around Disney Earth area
-Theme: Disney’s Animated classics
- Another funny story here, this was one of the first ideas we planed way back in the notebook we started. So when Disney actually announced a similar idea, we were shocked… It’s like they stole the notebook or something.

Disney’s Color Splash Resort
-Located around Disney Earth area
-Theme: the Color Spectrum

Well those are the resorts, and I guess that ends part one, the overview. So I guess up next we start diving into it hardcore. I have no clue where I’m going to start yet. Well that’s not true, not Disney Earth or Mystic Isle Water Park because those are the newest ideas and we’re still working on them. But if anyone has something their interested in hearing more about, I’m open to suggestions. H thinks I should start with the Town Center, so that might happen. Anyways, until next time.

Magic Kingdom- Main Street Intro

I really want to dive in deep and get to some of the heart of the resort, and it’s not like the Town Center doesn’t have that, but after our work yesterday refining some attractions, I got excited and wanted to share some of them. So we’re jumping into the Magic Kingdom, unfortunately tonight I’m only going as deep as Main Street, but there’s some cool stuff happening there. So let’s start.

As a mentioned earlier, Magic Kingdom is located off of the Marketplace in the Town Center, on the other side of one of the towers of the Magic Kingdom Resort. So, to get to the entry plaza of the park guest walk under a breezeway under the Resort. The entry plaza is much like any other one. The Ticket booths greet you, then security and the park gates, followed by the Train station up on a hill with a planter of Mickey’s face on the slope and tunnels on either side of that. Lockers and Restrooms on either side, same old same old.

Exiting the tunnels guest find themselves on Main Street, the classic Victorian era street. The year is 1890, Benjamin Harrison is in office, and the small town of Cottrell is celebrating their 75th anniversary of the town founding. The town is gearing up and the main street of the town along with the adjoining court, Marceline Court, are exploding with the decorations. The residents and shop owners of Main Street have a lot of celebrations planed, and can’t wait to get the celebration started.

Main Street is modeled after the memories and depictions of the ideal small town America. The Victorian style architecture and whimsical details Main Street the idealistic Victorian town feel mixes a fantasy and history with horseless cars, gas street lamps and double-decker cars. The buildings of Main Street feature colors of sage greens, candy apple reds, creamy yellows, sky blues, and whites. Off of Main Street is Marceline Court, a side street that is home to Marceline Court Bakery, with some open air seating. Marceline Court features some of the Streetmosphere shows and events. Banners and hanging flower baskets line the streets, and wrap around the street lamps, and street venders line the sidewalks selling balloons flowers, and other goods. Characters of Main Streets roam and interact with guests and host small street shows all day long. Many of the Characters, or citizens of Main Street, own and run various establishments on Main Street and do put in appearances at their store fronts too.

Next up, Main Street Town Square, Stay Tuned.

Main Street- Town Square

Welcome Back.

Sitting along the front of Main Street is The Main Street Railroad Station. Which is a clone of the one in WDW (what can I say, it’s a classic), the Main Street Railroad Station features the Magic Kingdom Railroad, which wraps around the park and makes stops at Main Street, Frontierland and Fantasyland (Small World Plaza.)

Opposite the Railroad station is The Town Square Gardens which is a small park at the front of Main Street that features various meet and greets, and streetmosphere performances with the citizens of Main Street.

Standing in front of the Station looking down Main Street, and looking clockwise around the town square, on the left of the tunnel is the Town Hall and Town Center Exhibition Hall. Town Hall is the location of Guest Services, and looks like a classic town hall. Connected to the town hall is the Exhibition Center. This building designed after a converted Victorian mansion with a vast wraparound porch complete with rocking chairs, bay windows, pointed dorm windows, and intricately detailed wood work. Inside the Exhibition hall is an exhibit entitled: The Mouse Years, an exhibit featuring the history of the Disney Characters. Starting with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and going up to the future release, this exhibit features models, concept drawings and animation cells of the Disney animated family.

Continuing Clockwise next is the side of the Emporium with its entrance on the corner of the town square and Main Street proper. On the Other side of the Street from the Emporium is the entrance and side of Doc’s Portrait Studio. Owned my Doc Smithers, Cottrell premier photographer and always around to document the major events of Main Street, Doc’s Portrait Studio is Magic Kingdom’s Camera headquarters, selling all camera needs and designed after a classic portrait studio with antique style portraits of Main Street Citizens, Characters and Guests. The Portrait Studio is also the location of the Photo-pass selection services.

Behind the Portrait studio on the square is the end location for parades, and next to that is The Firehouse, a table service restaurant serving Lunch and Dinner. A café style atmosphere with tables set right up to the sidewalk and a second level balcony the firehouse has deep wood wainscoting and rich red walls. Memorabilia of firefighters and firehouses decorate the walls. The Firehouse features classic Chicago style pizza.

Next to the Firehouse is the Main Street Transit Depot. Designed after a gas station/bus stop, the Transit depot features Trolley cars, and double-decker cars that travel from the town square up to the castle front plaza, with a station in the plaza next to the entrance to Adventrueland.

In Order to keep posts smaller and not a marathon read, although maybe it doesn’t make a huge difference except for not looking as daunting, next post we take a walk Down Main Street.

The Magic Shop is next, a boutique specializing in magic tricks of all kinds. The Magic shop has a sister store in the Town Center’s Promenade District. The decor of The Magic Shop is a dark and mysterious hole in the wall store, Shelves of dark almost black woods fill with artifacts from around the world and have a magic feel about them along with tributes to magical Disney characters line the walls.

On the other side of the Magic Shop is R.J.’s and Ethel Mae’s Ice Cream Parlor, designed as an old fashion ice cream parlor and soda shop, this family owned shop features both traditional and unique flavors of Ice Cream and fountain drinks. Connected to R.J.’s and Ethel Mae’s is Penny’s Sweets. R.J. and Ethel’s daughter’s candy shop featuring a wide variety of candy from vintage to modern and even home-made sweets.

Next is Main Street Traders, selling Adult Apparel and themed to a Victorian sports store, designed with White woodwork and Pale Blue tones creating an elegant and classic Victorian feel. Connected to Main Street Traders, and on the edge of Main Street, is Aunt June’s Gifts, a collectables store selling Disney figurines and Artwork, featuring a décor that uses rich warm wood and deep purples to give the feel of a royal and classy atmosphere, to match it's stylish owner.

And there you have Main Street. Once we finalize the full cast of the citizens of Main street I will post them, right now we have over 30 possible characters and need to go through and make cuts, but I tried to include and indicate with shop owners are characters too. Thanks for reading and see you again soon.

Overview of Adventrueland

Hey, I’m back after a brief, or not so brief, break. So after that marathon post of Main Street, I think I need to re-evaluate how I’m presenting because wow, that was long and not easy to read, I apologize for that. And in order to get through the basics faster the long drawn out descriptions might not be the best plan. So let me try this way. With the next land *Drum Roll* Adventrueland- with a focus on the Jungle Oasis. So let’s dive in.

Adventureland is divided into two sections. The front half, entering off of the Castel Plaza, is Adventureland: Jungle Oasis. Explorer and founder of the Jungle Navigation Co. Billionaire Harrison Hightower III, set up camp in the heart of a jungle filled with adventure and excitement. After building the headquarters and setting up the river safari to rival any other expedition, he began exploring the surrounding jungle unearthing many sacred places with their own unique stories. He expanded the headquarters of the Navigation Co to create a paradise for any explorer to enjoy.

Combining jungles from around the world into an explorer’s romanticized jungle land, the Jungle Oasis mixes tiki idols of the Polynesian, ruins from South America and temples from India. A Plaza like set up with the attractions, shops and restaurants centered around a small jungle village, containing huts housing various meet and greets.

ATTRACTIONS
The Tiki Room- A new version of the classic Disneyland attraction featuring the boys, along with new birds and songs to create an almost 2.0 version of this attraction.

Indiana Jones Adventure: Quest for the Jade Monkey- A new dark ride utilizing the EMV technology on an adventure into a jungle temple with Indiana Jones.

The Jungle Cruise- The classic attraction in all its glory.

King Louie Swings- a classic swing ride with the tower designed after a jungle tree that has grown in the middle of King Louie’s temple. An audio-animatronics Louie presides over the ride and has a series of lines that he says before and after the ride. The ride features music from the movie.

Oasis Trek- A pathway through the jungle that leads to different habitats housing Marmosets, parrots, Mongooses, and insects.

Jungle Oasis Huts- Meet and Greets around the plaza, themed to jungle huts.

SHOPS
Jungle Navigation Co. Outpost- Part of the Jungle Cruise façade, and set next to the exit of the Indiana Jones Adventure ride. This store sells both Indiana Jones merchandise and other Jungle Inspired items.

RESTAURANTS
Ohana- A tiki inspired quick service restaurant set next to the entrance to the Oasis Trek, the building is made of bamboo and grass roofing with an open design that provides both open air dining and indoor dinning with jungle foliage surrounding the dinning patio. Ohana features a Chinese Noodle menu of Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Vegetable noodle stir fry.

Bazaar Snacks- Providing a quick snack Bazaar Snacks stationed outside the entrance to the Jungle Cruise features pretzels, ice cream bars, fruit and other snacks from its marketplace karts.

That’s the brief overview of the Jungle Oasis. Thanks for reading.
