A couple of questions

Our August trip is coming up quickly. We are staying at the Boardwalk Villas for 10 days.

Two questions in particular. We are using Tiffany Towncars from airport to Disney. I know I can request a stop at the grocery store. Has anyone else ever done this and did you have enough time to get what you needed? I have also read that you can apply for the grocery stores frequent buyer like card so that you can get extra savings. And is the store a Piggly Wiggly or something like that. Can you tell this is our first trip?

Going along that same line of questioning, has anyone ever shipped a box of non-perishables to their resort? DH and I follow a low carb lifestyle and the kids are pretty easy to please when it comes to food. I figure I can find the things we like to eat up here at probably a lower price than near WDW. We don't plan on spending alot on dining while we are on site. Food is just not a big priority with us. I'm sure we will find a few places to eat, at least for the experience, but we do plan on eating most of the time in our suite.

Thanks for your help. We are really getting excited about going. After 15 years of marriage and two kids (10 and 7), this is our first really really big vacation and we can all hardly wait.
The kids don't even want to look at any pictures of Disney, because they both say they want to be really surprised when we get there!

How about an alternate plan to consider? Why not rent a car to get to your hotel? Several companies have desks inside the airport (Alamo, National, L&M, and a couple of others). You can stop anywhere you like for as long as you care to (Wal-mart or Super Target). By doing that, you may be able to buy what you want and not have to ship a box. Total cost for the car rental may be much less than shipping plus towncar. You can return the car either on WDW property (Alamo & National?) or I believe some companies have return desks at some of the Downtown Disney hotels. Maybe someone else knows. One person in the party can return the car while the rest check in or sometime the following day. We stayed at FW and shopped at the nearby Winn-Dixie (10 minutes). Applied for their discount card online and had it in a week. If you choose to ship a box, I have not, but many have without a problem.

My brother used them not to long ago and enjoyed their service. They didn't take advantage of the grocery stop, but many people do & say its worth it. I'm not sure what stores they stop at along the way but they are along the same line as the Piggly Wiggly.
Alot of the stores have a "savings card", but it might not be worth the effort for you. You only get a half hour and you may not want to waste time filling out the form if you won't be using it regularly.
Super WalMart & Super Target have good proces as does Publix.

We have a Super WalMart near us in NY and they carry quite a bit of low carb fare. I've never shipped anything because we usually drive down or rent a car (because we always visit family, too).
Both my daughter & I are on a low carb diet for medical reasons and have never had a problem eating in WDW. They are more than willing to work with you, plus there are many natural low carb choices. I do carry my favorite snacks with me to the park for conveinence, but many shops now have sugar free/ low carb offerings.

I would suggest going to Publix. Gooding's is at the Crossroads, right across the street from property, but it's much more expensive than Publix! There is a Publix off of I-Drive not too far down the road from SeaWorld.

Have a great trip! I'll be there at the same time! Cross your fingers for good weather!

Rather than shipping a box, you might want to pack an extra suitcase. Then you will have extra room for souvenirs on your return trip.

Thank you for all the replies. I will definately look into the link about low carbing at WDW.

We will probably rent a car sometime during our stay so that we can do some off site visiting - like to Cape Canavral. We have discussed just renting at the airport, but I think I would like the less stressful route of having someone meet us and drive us to the resort. I'm going for the full pamper effect here!

The idea about the extra suitcase is good, too. One of the reasons we went with BWV is because we can pack less since we will have access to a washer and dryer right in our villa. And like I said earlier, we are just not big food eaters, at least not anymore, and we knew we could get up and out alot earlier if we had breakfast in the room.

I did sign up online for the shopper card from Winn-Dixie.

We have been making these plans since December. And I truly want to get off the plane, get our bags, ride in a nice car and get to the resort without having to read a map, follow directions, yell at DH - NO, turn here- and get to the resort already stressed out. If you know what I mean! I want to be able to watch my kids as they first see WDW. That should beat watching traffic and traffic signs. And since my DD (7) is the little princess, well that makes me the Queen and I want to be treated like one! HeHeHe!

So I think we'll stick with the town car service and even a 30 minute stop at the grocery store will get us what we need in terms of perishables.

If anyone else is going to be there the same time (Aug 8 - 18) please feel free to e-mail me. Would love to meet others who are also enjoying WDW.

Driving is not stressful if you READ the signs. They are very clear and easy to follow.

If you get misdirected, turn around and go back.

No sense of adventure I guess!!
