Trip Report A Bonus last minute March Flower and Garden trip with lots of "Moments" - COMPLETED

Hello and welcome to my trip report I'm so excited to share this report with you all as it was such a special trip - I literally loved every moment of it and there were quite a few "moments" - I'll explain more on that in a minute.

As the title suggests this was a bonus trip for me booked at just 33 days before travelling - for those of you who don't know me I'm Tracey, hello, I travel to Disney every year in November - always November for my birthday. This trip was suggested by Chris (my husband) and we found a really good deal so we decided to go for it! - further details of how this happened can be found in my pre trip report (but to be honest you won't find much else of any use in the pre trip report as there was pretty much not to update on - I just wanted to tell everyone how happy I was when I booked)

I knew we were booked but in reality things didn't sink in until we arrived and that's where the "moments" in the title come in - I would have a quivering lip, tears in my eyes and then the sunglasses would come from the top of my head over my eyes to cover the tears and there it was a "moment" as Chris would describe it - and a fair few of these happened during this trip. Because this didn't really sink in properly until we arrived there is a lack of photo's for the first part of this report but there will be a lot of photo's after this properly starts as despite being in the world in November there are over 1400 pictures from this trip - oops......

We were in Disney from 12th March to 22nd March - 10 days in the World, Direct flights from the UK and Disney's All Star Sports with park tickets for a total of £2600 a bargain and the reason we went.

so onto the details................

Sunday 11th March
The day before our flight - we woke up and finished packing, it was strange to be packing Mickey ears and shorts in a suitcase, it still felt so unreal and really hadn't sunk in. it was like we were just going through the motions but were watching someone else - it's really hard to describe but you might relate to what I mean?

We normally travel mid week so normally leave work and rush around and then head down to the airport, we took our time, had something to eat and then packed the car and were off.

DSC04243.JPG

We were in the car chatting saying that in a few days we'd be on BTMRR but then just kept laughing as if it wasn't real - it honestly felt as if we were going out for the day together or going on an overnight break.
Our journey was pretty quick to Gatwick - we got to the hotel around 4.30pm and lay and rested in our room for an hour.
I watched some of Dancing on Ice - (a TV programme where celebrities learn to Dance on Ice) - Chris finally got fed up of that and went down to the pub next door to the hotel for a beer.
I joined him shortly after for a quick drink and snack and then we both returned to the room for an early night
The bar was far busier than we'd ever seen it but I think that was down to the fact it was Mother's Day.

Monday 12th March
Travel day - for all our Disney trips for the past few years the alarm tune is Shakira "try everything" - the same tune was put on to wake us up this morning and when the alarm did go off we again looked at each other and chuckled almost in disbelief this was actually going to happen.
We got up, showered and then headed for breakfast - in the hotel we stay in you get a free pick up and go breakfast of croissants, bacon rolls, coffee etc.

We packed the car (again) and took the car to the long stay south car park - before we left the cost of staying in the south car park was around £20 cheaper than the north long stay car park and as we were trying to not spend excessively on this holiday we booked the cheap option and decided to take the tram to the North Terminal where the plane was waiting to take us "home"

We arrived to an empty check in - I couldn't check in online (we think due to my brand new passport) so we were grateful for an empty Virgin desk. We headed through security and did a little window shopping and had poached egg on toast for breakfast.

We boarded our plane "pretty woman" and the plane took off with 285 passengers and 16 crew - in November this figures is well over 400 passengers!

I watched a few films on the plane including Coco and really enjoyed it - a great story line and I'm sure that Walt Disney is still living in the after world as I for one often think of him and what he achieved in Disney :)

We were 6th off the plan but our luggage took ages to arrive - the airport was being updated and there seemed to be fewer luggage belts etc and things hanging over the ceiling as make shift air conditioning units.

We headed out towards the Magical Express - we've never got onto this before and there was a fairly long wait - I'm disappointed that at this stage things still hadn't really sunk in so I didn't take any photo's, that said we didn't get a Magical Express anyway - it was a Mears coach :(

We arrived at All Star Sports - (for those who know me well will know I've only ever stayed at Riverside, it's my 2nd home and I've spent over 300 nights there but this was a chance to spend 10 additional days at Disney so Riverside was going to have to wait until November) - check in was quick and I have to say all the staff here were so friendly and welcoming - they really do show Disney in a great light

We opted for the no cleaning option and were given $90 - Ice cream money - yay! - those who have read my previous reports will know my thoughts on ice cream - we're more than capable of making our own beds and on keeping things tidy so this was a no brainer for us.

Our room was the furthest away but was still far nearer to the food court etc than any room we've had at Riverside. It didn't seem that far away at all for us. The room was clean, smaller than we're used to but was fine for what we needed.

We literally dumped the bags without even opening them, walked out of the room and went to reception to order a Lyft - it was now 8.34pm (12.34am UK time) but we had shopping to get. We were off to Walmart

Kenneth came to pick us up and we spoke with him about how long we'd been awake but we were going to keep going as we had supplies to get. We joked with him that he might be coming to pick us up if he were lucky!

We picked up water, breakfast bits and chips and ordered another Lyft to take us back to the All stars - would you credit it - Kenneth picked us up and we were back by 10pm

We quickly unpacked and were in bed around 10.30pm after 21 hours awake.

Coming up next our first full day in Disney - and the start of those moments - and a lot of photos!!!!

Wednesday 14th March

Again we had a great nights sleep - we were headed out again for a morning in the Magic Kingdom - we arrived shortly after 8.30am and were greeted with this beautiful sight. I could literally look at most things in Disney every day and never ever get tired of them.

DSC04332.JPG

It was a cold day and we had opted for Jeans as we knew the weather would warm up as the day went on.

We took a leisurely stroll down Main Street and then noticed some of the trolley street performers coming out of the shops - they were going to start their show!

DSC04333.JPG

"I'm walking right down the middle of main street USA" - they started singing and right there another "moment"

Going in November there is normally a Xmas theme but this was the way it was when we first experienced it back in the early days of our trips to Disney - I wish I could put into words how I truly felt at this point - Tears were flowing, Cinderella's castle was in front of me, there were blue skies - everything was just so magical - we were really here - in March!

DSC04335.JPG

DSC04336.JPG

We headed through the castle enjoying every second.

DSC04337.JPG

We headed towards Peter Pan but once we got there we didn't fancy the queue - I can't remember what the wait time was but we decided to head to HM - I don't know why this is such a favourite but it is!

With a 10 min queue it was silly to walk by.

DSC04339.JPG

After we joined our ghost friends we decided to go for a spin, we were trying to do a few things we didn't have FP for before the queues arrived.

We do like to try to go fast on here but we had nothing on another group of 3 adults who were literally spinning so much I'm surprised they could walk once the ride finished - they were certainly having a lot of fun on their trips too.

DSC04343.JPG

From here we headed to our friend Dumbo, I love the peanuts that are in the walkways here - it's those little touches which I'm sure most people don't notice that are so special and show that real attention to detail.

DSC04350.JPG

We then headed to Cinderella's carousel - I didn't take a picture of the scrim surrounding it but I still can't really work out why it was there - it didn't seem to cover anything and no work seemed to be happening but I guess there must have been some reason?

DSC04355.JPG

And a picture whilst on the carousel of the back of Cinderella's castle - it's still beautiful from the back!

We then decided to go for another sit down - I know we should probably save this for the afternoon but it was still a little chilly out and we classed this as time for a warm up!

DSC04361.JPG

DSC04362.JPG

Now in this show myself and Chris have another thing! (the first our kissing on Under the Sea)

When the Lion King section arrives and the song goes

"everybody look left" - myself and Chris look left
"everybody look right" - we both look right
"everywhere you look, I'm standing in the spotlight"
"Not Yet!" - We both look at each other and mouth "not yet"

Anyone behind us must again think we're mad but wouldn't it be fun if everyone in the whole audience did it?

We've never seen anyone else do it but maybe we could start a thing?

After our little sit down we decided on another and as we hadn't seen the Hall Of Presidents since the new arrival we decided to go and take a look

DSC04365.JPG

As we left we heard songs from the hub so we headed there - aren't these things cute - I remember quite a few years ago I think you could buy a Mickey and Walt statue in the same kind of format as this - I regret not buying one now!

We headed to the bus stop - I had to keep remembering All Star Sports - my heart kept calling me to Riverside and in most cases the Riverside was the stop either before or after the All Star Sports!

DSC04381.JPG

We boarded the bus on our way back to the resort to pick up some bits before heading to Animal Kingdom for our FOP Fast pass (amongst others)

And as luck would have it we had a private ride back! - #shirleystatus

We quickly got sorted and then headed back to the bus stop to grab our bus to Animal Kingdom - it came pretty quickly and again we were the only people to board, however it then went to All Star Movies and some more people joined us.

We arrived and headed straight to get some lunch at the quick serve near Dinosaur - the queue was ridiculous and we waited ages - there were people everywhere, in hindsight I don't know why we just didn't go elsewhere but we were hungry and thought we'd just stay.
Obviously after getting food we had the conundrum of finding a table - I honestly think if people didn't hold tables waiting for food it would make things much easier as if I had saved a table waiting for Chris I think that another family who had just got their food could have eaten and moved from that table before I'd have needed it.

Anyway we found one right at the back and sat down to eat - boy were we both hungry though.

After eating we headed to our first FP - the Safari - we arrived with about 10 seconds to spare (I know you get some grace but we cut quite a few of our FP really close on this trip) - too much chilling! :D
We were on the hunt for the baby hippo - truth be told we're not sure if we saw him on this trip or not - we did see a small hippo in the water on a few occasions but I would love to have seen him out of the water!

DSC04385.JPG

DSC04392.JPG

DSC04397.JPG

Safari completed we headed towards Expedition Everest - I don't like to say this out loud but EE is fast becoming a favourite of mine - no photos' sorry - we just video's ourselves so we can play it back when we need an Everest fix!

After our trip to see the Yeti it was ice cream time - see I was still not really fully in the moment as normally a moment like that wouldn't go undocumented. I remember just before eating the last morsel!

We sat in the ROL area watching the world go by and enjoying the sunshine which although we had our jeans on was quite warm.

DSC04400.JPG

Before leaving here I spotted an iPhone on the bench behind us - I kept my eye on it whilst eating my ice cream thinking someone may come back to claim it.

Then it started to ring - so I obviously answered it as I guessed maybe someone had realised they had lost it and was trying to find it - only thing is no one was speaking back to me!

As we left the area I walked the phone to a cast member at EE just to ensure that at least the right person would get it back when they tried to claim it.

The rightful owners were trying to find it as we walked past the entrance to ROL they had gone looking for it - apparently the phone had a tracker anyway but I pointed them in the direction of the cast member and hopefully they were soon reunited with their phone.

We were then off to find baby tigers in the Maharaja jungle check (sorry I know that's the wrong spelling so just forgive me!)

We saw absolutely nothing! - oh well - at least I knew I had a few more days to check back in to see if I could get to see them.

Instead we headed to see the Gorillas and Hippos - I could spend ages in here and actually one year think we did spend around 2 hours walking this trail!

DSC04405.JPG

DSC04408.JPG

Nothing was particularly active at this time though so our walk today probably only took around 20 mins!

This whole area still takes my breathe away - it’s so beautiful and well done.

We drank our drink and then headed out to wander around the tree of life

We wandered around the shops just to see if anything was new since our last trip

Found a few Alex and Ani I liked but resisted the temptation as in November we'll get a $200 gift card so I can spend that - I really do hope they have the HM ones still then though.

It was then time for our FOP FP - I had managed to secure this by fate one night a few days after booking our trip - I really didn't think we'd ever get one but luck was on our side - it was meant to be

We flew on that Banshee, screamed, and took it all in - a bonus ride was so special - this ride is truly amazing - it makes me hopeful for all the new things to come. If they can do that now what will they achieve in a few years time?

We left Pandora knowing we'd be back (and knowing there would be loads more photo opportunities - which there were!)

We arrived back at our resort and decided to walk to McDonalds for a milkshake - quite clearly we hadn't had enough exercise today!

We spent the remainder of the night trying to sort out our photo pass - Chris could view everything but when I looked via my account everything was showing but with photo pass written across it.

No one seemed to know how to fix it as we had done everything correctly - funnily enough after a couple more days it fixed itself!

As it was pretty chilly outside we headed to bed!

2 days in the world and no night time shows yet - what was going on?!!!

Great photos, great smiles, great trip report. I always enjoy reading about your adventures @Longers

So nice to hear from you and to have you following along - I took things so much slower on this trip and we had the most amazing time - it might have been our best trip ever!

I should have listened to you!

We ate a chocolate each and rested on the bed, Chris fell asleep whilst I looked through photos and watched TV
Our intention was to head out for an early evening in Magic Kingdom with HEA but by the time Chris woke up I was tired and we agreed that we would just stay in tonight, get some sleep and start again tomorrow.

I don't think in all our years of going to Disney we had ever left at 3.30/4pm from a park and not gone out afterwards - it was a sure sign we were chilling.

That sounds a lot like our first MK day :) It felt so strange to me and Raul to not go back to the park after the break. And it was really chilly. Animal Kingdom was the trickiest day because of all the tree cover. In the afternoon, it would feel comfortable in the sun but a couple minute walk down the path would put you back in chilly shade :)

Noooo how are you home already!!!

But this was as you say a BONUS trip so I am soooo ecstatic to be reading!!!

And oh my goodness I am sad it was still cold in March! I didn’t think it would be. January was so strange to be wearing coats and long pants.

The kiss the girl “kiss” makes me want to cry such happy tears! A Disney dream come true! I need to tell Joe he is slacking.

Loving the Animal Kingdom pictures. Glad you channeled your inner Nicole and sat in the ROL theater. Hope the lost cell phone was eventually found!

Slacking on my forum time but I am here! Better late than never :P
