A bit late with this thought but it is a real puzzler . . .

If TDC now owns Bakshi's Wizards, does this make Queen Eleanor a Disney Princess? If so, I gotta be first in line for the meet&greet.

I had to Google Queen Eleanor. Reminds me of Princess Daphne from Dragon's Layer. Makes me think some animators watched a little too much back in the day.

EDIT: I see the censor automatically removed a word in my post that rhymes with "mourn".

If Wizards was originally a Disney movie, it would be buried deeper than Song of the South. However, there would probably be a dark ride in Fantasyland somewhere that everyone loved.

The real, snark-free answer is that not every princess that is Disney is a Disney Princess, nor is every Disney Princess a princess. The character needs to be "inducted" into the club.

Moana, Raya, and Pocahontas (daughters of chiefs, not princesses) are Disney Princesses. Anna (a princess) is not a Disney Princess.

Reason: Frozen sells enough merch on its own that there's no need to include Anna and Elsa in the Princess line.

Case in point, Princess Eilonwy, Princess Giselle, Princess Vanellope, Princess Leia are not Disney Princesses. However, Mulan is a Disney Princess but never was a Princess.

Can we get the answer with snark now?

In Princess Eilonwy's case, if your movie tanked, not only are you excluded from the sorority, but you never get mentioned again.

Technically, Giselle was also never a princess, since she never marries Prince Edward. Which makes, to my knowledge, Idina Menzel the only actress to play two different princesses in Disney movies.

No, no, no, what does LOTR have to do with any of those other "things"?
They are all animated movies by Ralph Bakshi and released by 20th century Fox. He made an animated version of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers back in '78. He never finished the Return of the King so Rankin & Bass did it. He also did the animation for Cool World. He did a lot of rotoscoping in his animation. Also some of his work is very adult oriented. (Fritz the Cat).

I'd show a picture of Queen Eleanor and Princess Teegra but the mods would delete it.

So Raya will never be a Disney Princess since her movie tanked. Princess Leia's movies didn't tank but she doesn't have a talking animal companion so she is out.

Raya was designated a Disney Princess last year.

"And making her official debut as a Disney Princess this year is Kumandran warrior Raya from the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Raya and the Last Dragon”!"

Even a Tolkien-nerd like me found Bakshi's version almost unwatchable back when this was the default movie version of the books. Those Rankin & Bass TV films were better, and I still think their version of The Hobbit is a more satisfying adaptation than Peter Jackson's prequel trilogy.

Jackson's LOTR trilogy, though, set the gold standard.

EDIT: I had to search for an image of Princess Teegra. Jeez, and people thought Princess Leia's costume in Return of the Jedi was too revealing! I've never seen the film, so I'm trying to think of what, if any, plot device explains that... um... outfit.
