999 Happy Haunts?

So recently I was listening to the narrative to The Haunted Mansion. We all know that there are 999 ghosts and room for one more, but the end of the ride states "Now a ghost will follow you home." If that ghost follows me home that would make 998, where are the replacement ghosts coming from?

Ghosts exist in a temporal plain. They can follow you home and stay at the mansion.

Ghosts only follow one person per doom buggy home and they off set that by horrible buggy accidents every 2 or 3 cars. Voila, new ghosts!

Actually it's even worse than that for our Happy Haunts. The Haunted Mansion has a top hourly capacity of 2600 guests.
And if the ghosts were in fact going home with each guest, that would be a deficit of -1601 ghosts.


BUT....there is also a 1000th ghost, a doctor from Baton Rouge, who won a charity auction to be named #1000.

I think we are the replacement ghosts when we ride the ride. The bride in the attic scene pushes us off the balcony, killing us. That's why we go down backwards into the graveyard. So, when a ghost goes out and follows a guest home, another guest dies and becomes that ghost's replacement. I'm probably wrong... I'm just trying to think of an answer to the question... hehehe...

I'd heard that one too. The reason the caretaker is so scared is because he sees you fall from the window, then your ghost keeps moving.

what's the exact specifics they say? do they say 999 haunts "reside" here? if that's the case this is their perminent home, sure they follow us home, but they come back eventually to their home, they wouldnt want to outstay their welcome, that's just poor manners. I reside in the same town as Bon Jovi but I can still visit Disney world.

that's the only possible loophole I can come up with.

Maybe only unhappy ed off haunts follow you home and the happy ones stay.

hmmmm.... I still am going with they are flowing us but still just as in visiting. then they come back. ask the ghost that followed you home, no answer? he must have returned! plus let's not forget we dont know much about
our ghost host, for all we know he was terrible at schematics and really is not in a position to judge if the blueprints allow for another occupant.
or finally perhaps he was secretly terrible at math and blurted out numbers to try to impress you. the fact they add to a thousand was mere coincidence
