News Disney Patent Targets AI Projection for Real-Time Animatronic Faces in Theme Parks

If they can get the lighting right I think the face projections will look good. I am guessing its easier/cheaper to do and they can get a more realistic look, again if they get the lighting right, than trying to cram all the mechanics into the heads of the animatronics.

Even the early face projections; Buzz, the dwarfs, Frozen, are not that bad. I look forward to see what they come up with.

Saying they will use AI, that feels like spin to me, EVERYBODY is now trying to almost FORCE everybody to use AI at the workplace from what I am seeing.

I don't mind it when it is just the eyes or something .... But when it is the full faces, so far, they have looked terrible

Can see how bad the ones for Frozen were that when they did the ride in a 2nd location they went back to traditional animatronics

Part of that was, I understand, the projections can get "off" very easily so maybe the "AI" will fix that, but who knows. I am not a fan

Reminds me of the Victoria Frankenstein figure at Epic Universe’s ‘Monsters Unchained’ Attraction.

It will be interesting to see how this develops and moves forward, but I can’t help but think it would be better to stick with non-projections on animated figures.
But still interested to see what the next step will look like performance wise.
