Beware of hitch hiking... illnesses

Just a friendly reminder about visiting our favorite petri-dish, WDW. Guests just love to share whatever endemic creeping crud from where ever they are visiting from, so please keep that hand sanitizer and washing hand habit in full force while you are in the Orlando area. My wife and I just returned from a couple of weeks R&R at the parks where we picked up something and are both enjoying a week of a stomach destroying Doxycycline regime (sorry I misidentified it but since its dose time I came back to correct it) . So coughing kids, and other guests are all sharing without hesitation something that will give your sinuses and Kleenex/handkerchiefs a good workout with plenty of fluid for everyone and its not a Covid strain (tested).

I had family that went to Disneyland Paris this summer as part of a vacation to France + the Netherlands and they came back with some sort of ick. They noticed people (kids and adults) coughing and sneezing everywhere and barely anyone covering their mouths.

I'm off to Disneyland in less than 2 weeks and plan on bringing mini hand sanitizer with me. It's not WDW but theme parks in general are a breeding ground for illness.

Germs don't distinguish where or who they attack. Getting sick happens everywhere crowds are present. Even though we went through Covid times and everyone was alerted to and vigilant about coughing, covering your mouth and sanitizing, it's amazing how many people still cough or sneeze freely in other peoples direction. Hand rails and any surfaces touched are notorious of contaminating lines of people. Some peoples immunity can fight off the germs and others can't. We still are very cautious whenever in situations where multiple people gather.

You MUST keep your immune system in A1 condition…take vitamins…don’t be a germaphobe…don’t be afraid to get dirty…I’m immunocompromised, went out in public during the height of the pandemic and NEVER got COVID. Why?

My immune system is ALWAYS supercharged…worked with cars starting as a teen, worked in a gas station (NJ) and ate dinner on the pumps with dirty hands and built up great resistance…do I get colds? Yup, maybe once a year for a few days and then back to normal.

A good immune system makes all the difference in the world. With all the concerts & sporting events I’ve been to, the chances of getting sick is no different than at Disney.

Yeah, I've been here a while and got sick about a week in. It was viral (I don't think it was Covid) and then went into my sinuses. I have an immunodeficiency that means I tend towards sinus infections, so my doctor just prescribed doxycycline and I take it whenever I start with one. Yup, had to take it for a few days. Was not happy. And that is WITH being the hand sanitizer lady. In retrospect, I should have been masking (I did in indoor spaces when I realized I was sick).

That sounds about what I had back in July. I hardly ever get sick, but this stuck with me though the entire month of July.

Ipratropium Bromide nose spray will stop the mucus production so the cough and drippy nose will go away.

Sometimes you can do everything and it still doesn't work.

I went to WDW in 2022. I have a pretty unusual immunodeficiency that we didn't know about at the time, but at that point, I was fully vaccinated, and I was still masking, hand sanitizing, hand washing, etc. I got Covid.

The big thing about masking was that no one else in my party got Covid. I didn't realize I had it (Covid brain) until I'd already flown home. My uncle drove me home and I masked around him. He didn't get it.

Fortunately, the one benefit of my type of asthma is that (there's been research done on this) my lungs make a protective coating that protects them from severe illness. I mostly get the vaccine to protect others.

Great PSA. I also want to add that on top of washing your hands, make sure you are getting enough Vitamin D, either through sunlight (my preference) or supplements. I have an app that tracks how much sunlight you need during a specific UV rating, to get enough, without getting burnt.

I now get far less sick than I used to, and the 1 time I did since doing this, it lasted 3 or 4 days instead of over a week.

Allergist mostly wants me to stick with Flonase. Although I hate nasal sprays, so the odds of me actually taking it are slim (which he knows; he's been treating me for 20+ years). I do sinus rinses (the premade ones when in FL), nasal sprays if it gets really bad, and for allergies, I do eye drops instead of nasal sprays, Pataday usually.

I pretty much knew when I got this one that it was a lost cause. SOOOO congested.

Yeah, I picked up something at the D23 convention and 2 weeks later it is still hanging on and I had to take 2 naps today. Also, not Covid, just crud. DH called it "con crud." For me, colds get stuck in my lungs. I had bronchitis a lot as a kid. Believe me, I have challenged my immune system a lot... but I also have autoimmune issues and that also seems to matter more.

Agree.
It all comes down to your own personal tolerance level and immune response.

I certainly have been exposed to plenty of germs and ‘unsanitary’ things over the years and rarely become ill even at my age.
Always put it down to ‘super antibodies’ which I believe after having built up so many exposure levels.

A example -
During the COVID Apocalypse, I was the only one in my workplace who never became infected and I never took any vaccinations.
My entire workplace was vaxxed to the max, and ALL of them became ill with it except me.
Oh the irony…

But back on topic now….
Evil microbes and unfriendly bacteria…!
