Can anyone post an old one for comparison? I almost feel like they went similar to Batuu where the CMs have some options (like the hat) which I personally think is great.
Yeah I like the new ones a lot better
I like the idea of plug and play pieces to make each cast member feel a bit more unique and like a real pirate, but some of these final designs are a miss for me. They're a little costumey, and the modern day shoes are really breaking the illusion for me. Some of these outfits look like a pirate outfit out of things you'd already have in the closet. I think my biggest issue is that they look bad without the vest/sash on, at least one of the two should be a required piece of the costume at all times. The guy in the second photo looks like a cast member on his break trying to be incognito moving around on stage. I don't think a kid would immediately recognize him as a cast member, and that's a problem. Compared to the previous iteration, I think the high socks are really missing here too, the bare calfs feel wrong to me. This redesign is very close to getting it right, but the magic kingdom costumes should feel a bit more whimsical. Hopefully they refine the look's best practices a bit more.
And do they call it macaroni? All of these photos are straight on and do not show the most important thing: is there still a feather in the hat? That is essential.
It is though also a costume. Everyone wearing the same thing would stick out as odd in other storytelling mediums.I’m not sure where the balance should be - ideally a uniform is… uniform, but allowing some individual choices can be nice.
I agree. Especially “lived in” environments like galaxies edge.It is though also a costume. Everyone wearing the same thing would stick out as odd in other storytelling mediums.

The shoes are a universal problem across all non-character costumes, not just these. I understand why they do it, but I do wish they'd invest in some faux boot covers or something for the costumes where they feel especially anachronistic.... and the modern day shoes are really breaking the illusion for me.
Indeed. I can understand why in other areas you may need a more recognisable and standardised costume to clearly identify CMs, but within an environment like this it seems like a positive development to be adding more variety to the costumes. It would be nice to see this approach expand across the parks and, at the end of the day, you will always be able to identify a CM by their name badge. It is though also a costume.
