Trip Report I Think I Can Sing "Jessie's Girl" Backwards

Over the years we've(E, J & myself) have done quite a few last minute trips to Disney. Not really out of the ordinary for us, esp. years ago before J was in school. It was pretty easy to just pick up & go with not much notice. Now, in present times it's not so easy, esp. when we were going to have already been there less than 2 weeks prior to this trip(J's birthday trip).

So, I might as well get the big disappointment out of the way now. J was not with us on this trip.
You have JSR to thank for that. He had already missed 2 days of school a few weeks prior for his birthday trip & dad didn't want him to miss another day for this one.👎 And, even though this was a super short(48 hours) trip he was missed tremendously!!

Here's who you will see
IMG_5182.JPEG

I'm pretty sure you know everyone but just in case--our niece-H, our friend-S, the person that wanted to go on this trip more than any of us-R, E & myself.

And, the star of this TR(hey, someone had to try to take J's place!!)
IMG_5152.JPEG

2 weeks before the birthday trip R told me that Rick Springfield was going to be playing at Flower & Garden. I knew that & I also knew(b/c he's played there for years) that one day I would end up having to go there to see him. Now, before you get the wrong idea, I'm not the Rick Springfield fan, R is!! I do like his music, he does put on a great show & contrary to what most people believe he does have a lot more hits than just "Jessie's Girl" & "Don't Talk to Strangers". However, R is the big fan-not me. I ended up liking his music b/c of R. Would I fly to Disney for 2 nights to see him perform after I had just been there 2 weeks prior? Absolutely not!! But, when R offered to pay for the room & my flight I totally changed my mind!!

We booked a Lion King Suite at AoA. I told him we had to call E to see if she & J wanted to come. As I said earlier J couldn't but E was on board. I talked to H and told her we still had room so she decided to come also. E mentioned it to S & he decided to come too!! Big mistake though-he booked a Lion King Suite also. All that room for one person!! We should have thought to tell him to get a Little Mermaid room.

We originally were going to fly down Sunday late afternoon after I got done working. We were to return Tuesday morning b/c I had to work the late shift that day. Then we decided b/c it was such a short trip that we would take the 5:00am flight on Sunday-let me tell you, I'm getting way too old for that(says the girl who's doing it again in October). I asked my boss for Sunday off & we were good to go.

You know what that meant--an extra night of Rick Springfield shows!!😧

After getting up at the ungodly hour of 1:30(is that even healthy?) here we were at 8:00am!!
IMG_5109.JPEG

And by 8:30 we were here!!
IMG_5110.JPEG

Funny how we can't make it to a park this early when we're already on property yet we can flying from Pittsburgh!!

We were all starving b/c nothing was open in the Pittsburgh airport before we took off so we made a reservation here on our way to AK.
IMG_5112.JPEG

My breakfast. It was good but the service was so slow!! We were all getting aggravated!!
IMG_5115.JPEG

R's breakfast.
IMG_5116.JPEG

H, S & I rode EE while E & R sat by "what once was Rivers of Light" and had some Safari Ambers.
IMG_5118.JPEG

Then we decided to catch FotLK. I love this show!!
IMG_5119.JPEG

Then it was time to head out!! It was a quick but fun visit to AK!!

My one and only cruise turned out to be a Rick Springfield cruise, and we had no idea until after we were boarded. Not a big fan either, and definitely not after that! We only saw him twice (we weren't there for any of his "events", just to go to Cozumel and Cancun) and both times he was SO DRUNK!!! Big wine drinker for sure. Can't wait for the rest of the report!

What's a trip to Disney without a visit to The Tambu Lounge?? I was excited to be back at The Polynesian-even though it had only been 12 days!!
IMG_5121.JPEG

This is where I did get a little sad. E, H & S were headed to MK for the rest of the day. R & I were headed to Epcot for Day 1 of Rick Springfield. He was playing 3 shows on Sunday & 3 on Monday. Yes, I promised him that I would go to all 6 shows.

I do love the Epcot views from the monorail-esp. during Flower & Garden!!
IMG_5125.JPEG

IMG_5126.JPEG

Once inside we had to head right to our dining reservation. We got the Flower & Garden dining package for the 8:00 show. This was a new one for R & myself. I was never drawn to eating here b/c I'm not a fan of German food(sorry, I hope I'm not offending anyone). But, if it makes you feel any better I'm part Irish & I think it's some of the worst food going!!
IMG_5127.JPEG

IMG_5129.JPEG

The restaurant was so charming!!
IMG_5131.JPEG

And the entertainment was so much fun!!
IMG_5135.JPEG

IMG_5137.JPEG

As for the food......
IMG_5133.JPEG

IMG_5134.JPEG

We both loved it!!
Seriously, if you haven't tried this before I encourage you to do it!! We booked it b/c there were very few restaurants that had reservations left for the Flower & Garden package. I was a bit hesitant but I'm so glad we ate there!! I don't have a picture but we had an apple strudel for dessert that was delicious!! I look forward to going back again!!

The only downfall was the service. Our waiter took our drink orders. R got a Coke. The waiter asks me if I want one. I specifically said "no, I don't like or drink colas". I ordered a water. What did I get? A Coke. Then R & I both ordered beers. It took awhile but we finally got them. He was MIA for so long that another server noticed us sitting there forever & apologized to us & said that he was new. We paid, got our tickets & headed to Round 1.

OMG-the line to get into the Garden Theatre was absolutely insane!! We didn't think we would even get in for the first show. After listening to multiple people talk in line it sounds like he always draws a pretty big crowd there. I have to say his first show that Sunday was the most crowded one of the 6!!

We did get a seat-not the best but I knew we had a lot more chances to get something better!!
IMG_5138.JPEG

IMG_5139.JPEG

So, we literally exit the theatre then get back in line. While R got in line I got us some drinks.
IMG_5140.JPEG

Round 2!!(better seats)
IMG_5143.JPEG

This time we had the tickets from the dining package. We still waited in a long line-just in the opposite direction. And this line was a wet one!! It was raining pretty steadily the whole time!!
IMG_5147.JPEG

Round 3!!(You do get much better seats with the dining package).
IMG_5154.JPEG

IMG_5158.JPEG

Round 3 was much better than Round 2. I have to say that Round 2 was a disaster. He kept saying how his allergies were bothering him & he took too much Benadryl. So much that he forgot the words in the 2nd verse to "Don't Talk to Strangers".😳

After Round 3 it was time to go. I had felt not right/delirious all day. I was truly exhausted. Getting up that early really is rough but looking back it was definitely nice b/c it gave us a whole day that we would not have had if we had stuck with our original plans.

I took a few quick pictures of the room when we got back.

H was already sleeping when we got back!

I felt a million times better when I woke up!! Time to start a new day!!
IMG_5166.JPEG

No surprise as to what we rope dropped!!
IMG_5168.JPEG

It felt so odd though. I'm used to J & I hitting up Star Tours or RNRC while the rest of them head here.

I wanted to join Kermit & the gang for one last show but there was an insane wait. Oh well, I have fond memories.
IMG_5169.JPEG

Speaking of fond memories-I wish I had known this would be our last one of these.
IMG_5170.JPEG

A week or so after we got back my dear friend, Darstarr was there & sent me a picture of their new(most pathetic & gross thing I've seen in awhile) charcuterie board. While we were there we didn't know that this particular charcuterie board was close to its demise but we were sad b/c J loves the pickles on there & always eats every last one of them!!
IMG_5171.JPEG

BTW-I know PCB somehow didn't make it in the last TR but there it is now!!

With that it was time to bid HS farewell. We had to head to R&C-as I said earlier, we are part Irish & it was St. Patrick's Day!!☘️🇮🇪🍺
IMG_9524.JPEG

IMG_5183.JPEG

Afterwards we decided to head to Mexico.
IMG_5187.JPEG

For a Pepe's Special!! Our friends we met a year or so ago in Epcot turned us on to them.
IMG_5190.JPEG

So E sent them a picture of us with them!!

Always love your trip reports!
Biergarten is great, as a Wisconsinite I love a good polka band! And I was so disappointed in the change in the meats and cheeses at Baseline. I didn't order one when I was there recently with the change (I was also still pretty full from breakfast) but I did try the chips with beer cheese sauce. The chips were decent.

Love it, my friend!! ❤️
So glad you're here!!

That's so crazy!! And hey, I like my wine too but if I'm being paid to perform I'd definitely lay off until after the show!!
Take a look at how he looks at the age of 75. The wine definitely isn't helping him but according to E's husband, JSR, he swears that there's HGH going on there!!
I hope you put the vanilla sauce on that apple strudel! :hungry:
I don't have pictorial evidence but I'm quite certain that I did!!
I’m thinking it wasn’t too much Benadryl - it was too much wine, right @cgersic?!!
Probably was!!
Wow! R must really love, love, love Rick Springfield. Well we found something that keeps him awake!
I about died laughing when I read you comment. R told me that he was reading this when he knew I started this TR. He was laughing about your comment. I then said to him, "Do you realize who littleroo is?"
He really laughed when he found out it was you!!
Exactly what I was thinking when I read it
wine pouring GIF
I'm sure!!
I've had to cancel every Biergarten reservation I've ever made. But I booked another one for our May trip, our only park day, and I dare anything to happen to make me cancel it LOL. It will probably be our last WDW trip for a while so I want to dine there while I can.
If you can make it happen, do it!! It was excellent & well worth it!! Enjoy!!

Finally, I am!! I know it's taken me a bit--sorry!! I just want you to know, that even though I'm behind in these, you're the reason I started doing them again-I promised you that day at the pump even though I didn't do it when I said I would. I was so exhausted that whole weekend. I think I'm finally recovering!!
I'm sorry you don't live that close. I'm there all the time(I live in North Hills). I have their credit card so I get the extra .15 off per gallon. It's pretty much the only place I get gas so I'm sure I'll run into you again someday!!:D

We discovered our love of Biergarten by booking a candlelight processional package many years ago. We eat there nearly every trip now. So fun and really easy to get a same day reservation! I also saw Rick a few years ago at F&G. It was good, but I also wouldn’t book a trip just to see him perform!
It's so good--almost like a "hidden gem"??
He is good & I totally agree with you--except R was paying!!:D

I'm very disappointed!! Aren't the chips salt & vinegar?

The chips at Baseline are supposed to be salt and vinegar but honestly I really didn't get any of that flavor. The occasional chip had some seasoning but the majority did not . The cheese would kind of cut that flavor anyway. I watched a vlog about the Baseline changes and the girl had the same opinion as me about the chips, she was also very sad about the meats/cheese changes too. And love hanging out with you too. I wish you had a trip planned for the last part of June.
