My son and wife got sick on our trip and we're stuck in our room off and on instead of getting to enjoy the parks. That socks but life happens. What also happens is that housekeeping refuses to take no for an answer even when you put up do not disturb signs and even tell them by phone to leave your sick family alone. They decide you need a "visual inspection" each day and force themselves upon sick folks. Customer service plays hot potato with you passing you around while reminding you how much they really do care. My family is already having a bad time due to illness. Take you happiest visual inspections on Earth and shove them somewhere. It's a shame. The food, hotel, and monorail service are amazing. Too bad the room sargeant gets to inspect your bunk. Ridiculous.

The las vegas shooting happen because the guy had a DND sign in his door!

What if your neighbor is a las Vegas shooter copy cat? How does the hotel tell between YOU and the copy cat.

What if your alone and pass out and need medical attention but your unconscious and cannot call for help?

Did you ever consider YOU are being dramatic and they really do care about YOUR safety and the safety of all the guests in the resort?

Maybe just let them in for the 1 minute or less and call it a day instead of fighting with them so much. You can't be that sick as your well enough to post on here.

I completely understand your frustration, especially while trying to rest. We stay at a lot of hotels at all price levels and Disney is the only place that has this ridiculous policy.

I hope you feel better soon. It stinks to be sick on vacation.

Stayed at the Poly the week before Christmas last year and was hit with the flu as an early gift the first night we were there. Every day for the rest of the trip, I spent each morning sleeping in while the family went to the parks. Four of five mornings, got the room inspection knock on the door. Took literally 30 seconds and I was either back under the covers or in a hot shower. Really not a big deal unless you turn it into one. If they want to come into my flu infested room, fine. Had zero impact on our trip.

Except Disney is not the only place. I'm surprised for someone who says they stay at a lot of hotels that they find that Disney is the only one that does this because it's certainly not the case. Lowe's hotel has a sign right on their front desks at Universal that clearly states they will check your room daily. I'm guessing you don't stay at a universal Resort very often 🙂.
Marriott and Hilton for the most part will also check your room daily. I think for anyone who truly does travels a lot, they will find it quite common at the hotel is going to check your room daily. It is not just a Disney thing. not even close

I suppose it's totally within the realm of possibility that if you're not sick and bedridden that you just don't realize the room checks are being done while you're out and about.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand how the daily room inspections would prevent another Vegas shooter. When staff enters your room, they don't go poking through your luggage right? So if there were to be another shooter, they're not going to just have their weapon sitting in plain sight in the room especially when they know people would be entering. They'll keep it stowed away until it's time to do their heinous act.

You have a repeat of the same situation and nothing gained by staff doing their checks.

That’s probably true.

It doesn’t change the fact that these room checks have been happening for several years now. It’s nothing new.

The OP is free to complain. Going to the trouble of creating an account solely to post their complaint seems somewhat futile. Perhaps an email to the resort GM would be a better option?

One incident in Vegas and Disney adopts a feel good we will check rooms daily --IMO it is nothing but PR and would so nothing to stop some crazy. Housekeeping would have to do a complete search and I am sure they are not trained or paid to do that

I'm guessing it's more about liability avoidance than anything else.

Like much of what Disney does, it is security theater.

I've never stayed at a Universal hotel and I've never had a room check at a Hilton or Marriott. Most of them haven't even brought back daily housekeeping.

I agree, mostly just show. But then again, people that do those types of things aren’t always thinking clearly enough to hide everything from view, or even know their room will be checked.

And I think that even if it is mostly just show, it does scare some away.

I've never had a room check either at Universal while staying at RPR. I've only heard of this at Disney. They are looking for sex trafficking of children in the rooms, IMO, and that;s why they are so insistent. I wonder if this means that they have had this happen before at Disney. They sure seem adamant about it. If you think about it, it's a logical place for those sick individuals to keep children for this because Disney is full of children so who would notice? Just musing about the situation.

No they are not looking for sexy trafficking specifically. Off you mention RPR because right on there front desks is a sign telling they absolutely will go into every room every day and it is not optional. As I live locally maybe I will try to swing by and take a picture and post. You are absolutely wrong about Disney being the only one and their reason, thoughbyour suggestion / speculating is a good reason.

I was not guessing. It is fact that the Las Vegas shooting is why this all started and is kept and with the recent events in both LV and New Orleans, this is not going away soon.

It’s pretty rare - I travel a crazy amount for both work and fun and it’s definitely not the norm.

Once at a Hilton security knocked on my door and said housekeeping reported my room cause the dnd sign was up. How odd - but he was super nice about it. That’s the only time outside of Disney I’ve seen it take place.
