Quote this post with your prediction as to the quality of this replacement (if/when one ever comes)
- Exceeds MV3D’s charm, creativity, and popularity
- 1:1 replacement in terms of charm, creativity, and popularity
- Far below what it replaced in terms of charm, creativity, and popularity
- __(other)___
MuppetVision set a crazy high bar as Disney's peak of the "Theme park 3D show" genre. I sincerely doubt much of what made it unique and charming will be held over for the next show. You won't see a performer like Sweetums and you certainly won't see as many AAs. I'm sure it'll get an attendance bump with it now being something you have to walk past to get to an E-Ticket attraction, but that would've happened whether another show went into this theatre or it stayed MuppetVision.

It doesn’t cost Disney that much money to run Muppets. They are closing the attraction because of construction.
Plus they have been running this show for over three decades if cost was a problem it would closed a lot sooner.
Modern Disney is not funny; Muppet Vision is hilarious. It will be a huge downgrade in quality.
While I will tend to agree Disney is not funny like it used to be but surely the humor can be more relatable to modern audiences.

Nothing really. It's Hensons final project with the Muppets is the big one. Also it's still extremely high quality aside from the Waldo special effect.

The problem comes down to, would Disney be able to update it to something as good? And that answer is a resounding absolutely not. That's what has always made me not want them to change anything. Disney has never known what to do with the Muppets. The only things they've done that were really good are the Muppets and Muppets mayhem. And they wet the bed right after each.

I'd guess because it wasn't the last one at that point. I also think it has a larger significance to WDW as it's been around almost 20yrs longer.
Muppets Haunted Mansion was quite good!

What makes me mad is you know darn well there is no replacement in their mind for this show. Just keep it where it is and build Monsters around it. How different is Sweetums than any of the monsters in MI, really? Blame Potter and the “everything has to be an IP land”. Pirates, Aladdin, and Jungle Cruise all exist together despite being very different and no one cares. Call it “creature” land and call it a day.

if they were smart they would film passes before in multi cam and VR. But very sad to see that small glimmer of hope basically erased

In my mind even before the announced closure. Muppet Vision in my mind was on the shelf with Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth not Honey I Shrunk The Audience and It’s Tough To Be A Bug. Sad to see many including Disney don’t agree

if they were smart... they wouldn't be doing this at all.

At least per Touring Plans, Philhamagic is rated higher

Better attended? Or more popularly rated with guests who do attend?

I’m sure Philharmagic is much better attended because of location, but I’m guessing muppets gets better ratings. Not sure though.

Closing this is an absolute crime and no one is going to convince me otherwise.

I intend no disrespect to the talented performers who have come since, but The Muppets were Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Jerry Nelson, Richard Hunt, and Dave Goelz. And of that group, the absolute core were Henson and Oz. They were the heart and soul of the Muppets.

That group was the secret sauce that, IMHO, can never again be duplicated. And it's one of multiple reasons why Disney's attempts to revive the franchise have repeatedly failed. Once Henson died, there were a couple of good efforts -- I'm thinking of Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island -- when Frank Oz was still performing and Brian Henson was at the helm, but most things since Jim Henson's time have fallen flat. And once Frank Oz retired from the Muppets, it was over.

Muppet*Vision 3D represents the last of the Henson era and one of the last truly great things the Muppets did. People also often forget that it was Richard Hunt's last time performing his characters as well. I know that Walt Disney World is "not a museum," as is often quoted here, but this one needs to stay. Move it if they have to, but it needs to continue.

Here, here! There is/was something so special about this era of Muppets. They were at their peak. To this day, every time I am in the preshow, I hear laughter. Whether it be from Gonzo's Tea for Two dance, Sam Eagle's patriotic announcement, or Rizzo bopping in humming the Mickey Mouse Club song and telling Sam "Rat, schmat! Besides their tourists! What do they know?" It never fails to get a laugh and that is something I don't really see with any other theater show.

I usually heard laughter at....
  • Most of what was said above..
  • The 3 D's with Max cause Debbie was Sick so the union sent him.
  • Beans antics to help Miss Piggy
  • Waldorf's Goofy Mask joke
  • When Chef let's everyone everything is okay in the back of the theater
  • Sam Eagle's tribute annoucement
  • Mostly startled screams and giggles when Fozzie Sprays the audience
  • Statler and Waldorf's reactions to Fozzie
  • Beakers antics while Bunsen speaks
  • Fozzie when he gets smacked in the face with the pie. This is usually the best to hear everyone's reaction..
  • The too Bad their going to spoil it with a pig remark by Statler.
  • When Piggy gets launched into the water
  • Random bits during the Finale
  • All the kids reaction not expecting to see Mickey at the end of the Film..

With most of DHS being comprised of single IP lands this whole snafu seems extremely shortsighted now that Rock'n' Roller Coaster is being rethemed. Such a missed opportunity to keep it all under a Muppet Studios umbrella.

I still think it could return if Villains is booted from Sunset Showcase and instead takes up residency in Theater of the Stars (near Fantasmic!, imagine that!) or jumps to MK's Villains land.

But dang... they were THIS CLOSE to making it all work.
Oh well.
