DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

While I might have enjoyed Gonzo’s antics or Fozzie taking a pie to the face when I was younger, I find the humor so much funnier as an adult. I’ll miss that since any Monsters, Inc. show almost certainly won’t have humor like, “We invited distinguished scientists from all over the world to come and work here. Unfortunately, none of them showed up.”
God, the writing is so good. Classic Muppets has some of the sharpest wit and quick jokes- their strength I think is not lingering on a joke too long. Early SpongeBob was similar (albeit much more family friendly), focusing on great writing over goofy faces or slapstick.

My favorite bit from MuppetVision is that distinguished scientists line, but I think a close second is from the preshow of all things.

Fozzie: “Scooter, I’d like to present the three D’s —“

Dorothy: “Hi, I’m Dorothy!”

Dinah: “I’m Dinah!”

Max: “I’m Max! Yeah, Debbie was sick, so, uh, the union sent me.”

Scooter: “. . .”

Fozzie: “…Debbie was sick, so the un — (Clears throat and pulls out a pitch pipe.)”
The line delivery Frank Oz gives here is perfection. The beat of silence as Scooter stares at him, the awkward repetition of Max’s line as if he trying to pretend it’s normal, the lack of confidence in his voice, the way he cuts himself off and shakily pulls out the pitch pipe, it’s just so good. It’s a shame the preshow is something you likely won’t see 100% of because it’s full of so many gems.
Sam Eagle: “Will you stop this foolishness?!”

Gonzo: “What foolishness would you like to see?”

Sam Eagle: “Will you get out of here?!”

We went twice last month (our last two times…) and unfortunately, each time we arrived, the pre-show was ending. I thought it was a bit much to make my family wait another 20 mins, so we just walked into the theater. I was certainly the biggest MV3D fan in the family due to the nostalgia factor. They all liked it a lot but I loved it.

At least it’s on YouTube.

I’m hoping when I’m there on the last day we’ll be able to catch the preshow at least once in full, if not in parts between viewings. The friends that are coming with me have never been to a Disney park before but are big Muppet fans so I want them to experience as much of it as they can since it’ll be their first and only time. I’m lucky I got to see it every single time I’ve ever been to Disney, but even then, no amount of screenings on that last day will feel like enough.

Too bad the archival seems to just be filming of the show rather than moving it.

Last week, we just did a same day “down and back” and we bookended the whole day with Muppets. Apps at Mama Melrose and lousy pizza at PizzeRizzo.

Super excited about Monsters Inc doorcoaster, but I’ll really miss this show. Holding out hope it returns at Sunset Showcase next to RnR but I know it’s so unlikely.

But, here is a sad fact...They had recently finished filming the 3d film when Jim had passed and they were intending to have Kermit in it as well..They filmed the pre show a week or so later after his memorial service and Frank Oz directed the whole pre show segments which is why you see more of Oz's characters....But, it hits hard when you hear Fozzie asks Where's Kermit to Scooter..Even tho he's in the theater getting ready....We all know what really happened during that time...

Random thought - If and when they update the songs in Cosmic Rewind, they should add an Aerosmith track like Walk this Way or even the same RR mix -Walk This Way, Dude , Sweet Emotion, Back in the Saddle and Love in an Elevator/ Roller Coaster. Great way to honor the legacy and an interesting twist for fans to try get that one.
I hope we can hear the music on the new version of RNRCC. I can barely hear it on the current version but the music is crystal clear on Guardians.

Y'know what the funny thing is? Monsters Inc is a hilarious movie. My family quotes the "Which means the Scare Floor will be..." "Painted?" joke all the time. So if the show that's replacing MuppetVision isn't funny, that's going to be disappointing both as a fan of the film and as a fan of MuppetVision. Hopefully it'll be at least as funny as the Laugh Floor.

Source? I thought he joined the hate statement they all put out when they fired him.
He did, but then a few years ago there was a Zoom interview thing for Muppet Treasure Island's anniversary and Brian talked about how Steve was talented or something of that nature. Not like a full endorsement but if he truly didn't like him he wouldn't have singled him out. I don't remember the exact quote but here's the video.

It's so disappointing how this project has been soured- Monsters Inc is one of the bets Pixar films and holds up great, it's so iconic and beloved, and the attraction is something fans have wanted for years, but because they chose to cheap out and replace instead of expand (or even use AC), now this new land has a negative cloud over it. It could be amazing but it'll still have destroyed Jim Henson's final work. I am sure that Pete Docter and the other Pixar OGs who worked on Monsters Inc are heartbroken over the destruction of a creative legend's work.

I just think its such a shame that they did not extend the closure until September, after the big wave of UK Visitors and Summer visitors come across. I am just so glad we saw it two years ago. I know we could have seen it this time but not there until August.

I just watched the video and I didn't hear him say anything about Steve Whitmire 🤷‍♂️

It is my understanding that the Henson family has a soft spot for Steve moreso than Matt, due to the connection Steve shares with Jim. Matt has grown on them, but Steve was really Jim's successor in more ways than one. Disney thought that they knew more about Kermit than Steve did (spoiler - they didn't).

There was a rule that no one was allowed to laugh in the movie unless the audience also found what they were reacting to funny.

Implementing this rule for modern WDI would stop this new land in its tracks.

Oh weird. I could've sworn he said "Steve" at some point, if not even in a group compliment.

Here's an actual source I have though: Terri Hardin talks about Disney's handling of the characters and their efforts to change them, and she specifically says Steve was fired over standing up to Disney, and they smeared him as "hard to work with" and "a diva".

Additionally, Steve still gets together with the rest of the Muppets crew. He was on Bill Beretta's podcast not too long ago. He's just not involved with anything official/Disney.
