News Test Track to be reimagined

I know it probably isn’t feasible to retrofit something like this into an existing building, but I’ve always thought they should fill it with live plants. Something like the Jewel in Changi airport in Singapore. Obviously on a smaller scale, but water and plants would go a long way in making it feel more modern, and probably also more timeless

That pic makes me want to sneeze.

This gets brought up a lot for whatever reason, but the central rain vortex alone cost well over $1B US, in construction costs from 5–10 years ago. It's not just that it wouldn't be feasible to retrofit, it's that it would be insanely expensive for what should instead be a more sensible facelift of a space that already has good bones. But yes, some more organic features would be nice.
Oh yeah I definitely wasn’t suggesting they try to recreate the dome or the waterfall.

But more the general idea of making it more lush with plants and water.

They just built what in Epcot? Such placemaking is for the ages
That's the best description of The Land's interior that I've heard so far!

Honestly, it's almost an embarrassment for such a space to be in a world-class theme park. Much of the purpose of visiting a theme park is to spend time within aesthetically/emotionally compelling physical spaces. And boy is it something to get slammed with the aesthetics of The Land's interior, especially after approaching such a promising-looking exterior...

Yet it feels like we might all be shouting into the wind about this, as practically everything is about discernible, sort-term ROI now. ...But... as noted previously, they do seem to update restaurants (presumably because that does something for guest spending/satisfaction?). So our hope might be that an eventual Sunshine Seasons redo extends to more general area aesthetics - even just a creative new centerpiece hanging from the ceiling, which could become the interior's new visual focus, and go such a long way for the whole space - since that might make Sunshine Seasons a more compelling place to eat?

Right, back on topic…

Is it possible they’ll make TT 3.0 a VQ/ILL attraction? (And might this finally mean the end of VQ for GotG:CR?)

I suppose it depends on how popular they expect it to be, which in turn depends on the extent of the changes. If the changes from 2.0 to 3.0 are comparable to the changes from 1.0 to 2.0, we’re basically looking at a retheme as drastic is Maelstrom to Frozen (despite the themes being more similar to each other, e.g., still related to transportation and some kind of vehicle testing).

I’ve been seeing the “NO ip Epcot” debate and other things in here and I just wanted to share my piece, as an Epcot fan:

The EPCOT that was is dead. It’s been dead for a long time. I know people give the IP inclusion at the park grief, but this is no longer the Epcot from 1982. As much as it pains me to admit it, we as Epcot purists, are fighting a losing battle. It is time for us to, in a sense, let go of trying to save what EPCOT was. It’s over. We can cherish what we had and how it inspired us, but that time is gone.

That doesn’t mean we should forget the Epcot that was, and what it stood for. Quite the opposite. I like what Test Track, and to and extent Luminous is doing by taking inspiration from the cherished past to make something new for a new generation of Epcot while carrying on the spirit of what once was. I feel like even Moana did this. And I feel like that is what should happen to the other pavilions in Epcot. SSE, Mission space, figment, the seas, all feel like holdovers from another era. I hope with new updates, we can get a better, brighter Epcot, for a new generation. and I think it is going in the right direction. Because as much as I love Epcot nostalgia

it’s time for Epcot to move on.
And maybe that’s ok.

Communicore hall still sux tho.

adding on, if Epcot wants to maintain relevance with other theme parks IP will be necessary to an extent. What matters is how new things, IP or not, are implemented so they make an experience that follows Epcot's mission statement and creates an expanded and better park that builds off of its original 80s/90s version instead of turning it into a "Disney Adventure World" staring Walt's city name, figment, and the world showcase.

I agree. And I feel like while GOTG kinda was weird, Moana worked really well and luminous feels like an Epcot show. I trust this new team of imagineers to update Epcot, much more than the somewhat bungled Epcot update disaster of a previous era. I think although it wasn’t the grand return to form we all hoped, it layed some groundwork that Disney is building on. I have confidence and hope in epcots future.

So does irrelevant IP.

You have to let go of your opinion of Communicore Hall. It is what it is. It is the future. The old Communcore is dead. Don't write about it, because others will criticise you in bold letters for having an opinion.

Guardians and luminous took the basis of what an Epcot attraction was like, without truly understanding what made an Epcot attraction. That's why Wonders of Xandar feels like an Epcot like pavilion, but lacks any sort of edutainment or real world themes, and why luminous has a world unity theme like illuminations, but doesn't communicate that theme well due to the mostly irrelevant Disney songs reminding you of the films rather than the theme.

Moana I have no comments on. I actually really like it :)

Yeah. I completely understand your point. I honestly didn’t like luminous at first, but it has grown on me.
I feel like TT 3.0 will be the real “canary in the coal mine” for epcots future.

I can't believe we're still having this conversation.

Exactly. It's not IP in EPCOT as a whole that we don't like, it's unfitting IP forced in where it doesn't belong (plus the mandate that EVERYTHING must be IP).

We dont use that word anymore when discussing the Epcot theme park.

I don’t think anyone, even those of us who think the EPCOT purists are too over the top, has spoken positively of CommuniCore Hall. I’ve spoken positively of the overall spine revamp as I think it’s nice, but that specific thing, no.
