DHS Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

To each their own, but I'd rather have a land with a dark ride, a coaster, a spinner, a quick service, and a table service, than a land with 3 spinners/flat rides, and a quick service

All TSLs look cheap and have no shade. Ours at least has a much better roster of attractions

The problem is the amount of space TSL uses. It doesn't offer nearly enough for how huge it is.

I'd rather have a worse roster of attractions (although TSL is already mediocre in terms of attractions, just not as bad as the international versions) in a much, much smaller land rather than the awful waste of space that exists at DHS.

If the lands are the same size then having the better lineup (regardless of the overall lack of quality) is obviously better.

I mean, part of the point is it did not have a table service, it had to expand just to have that, and now another for a snack cart, while still having no indoor areas or shaded areas. But also, isn't RC a coaster as well? So really it's just a drop tower vs a dark ride shooter, and then a sit down restaurant now there (with no indoor merch). In an area that is roughly 20% larger than the other 3 TSLs COMBINED.

which is completely irrelevant to the guest experience
It’s certainly relevant to a judgement of TSL. If Disney added a poorly-designed land with a single spinner behind Haunted Mansion and shifted that ride to the new area, it would be deeply disingenuous to argue the land is great because it contains such a wonderful attraction.

DHS has plenty of places to expand... If disney turned Animation courtyard into a land with 4-6 B-D ticket rides... no one would complain about the attraction line up at TSL.

The problem is, they are not using their expansion space and spent a ton of money on TSL. If TSL was all we were going to get for family friendly, the park really needed more.

DHS has been a skip for me the last 2 trips and almost certainly would be a skip on my next one with my current family dynamic... 2-3 more smaller scale rides would have pushed me to go to DHS whether that be at TSL or elsewhere

A stroll down Memory Lane…

These boards used to be quite unified in mocking the Toy Story Lands added to the international parks. As bad as many of the decisions regarding WDW were, at least we didn’t have anything as low-rent as that. The very second TSL was announced for Studios, a significant portion of the board became much more positive in their assessment of the areas. Now we’re begging for a few more thinly-themed kiddie rides.
Now, now, try to say something nice about Toy Story Land!

Seriously though DHS is in desperate need of kiddie rides. If the only attractions I can take my kids on with no height requirement are Runaway Railway and Toy Story Mania then that’s a huge problem.

None of the shows have height requirements, and they're all attractions too :)

Oh absolutely and I know that! But I know some kids don’t want to do shows all day and would love to enjoy more than two vehicle attractions!
I've posted about this in the EPIC thread... but my 2 year old didn't sit through Nemo on my last trip (he loved Lion King though). I can't imagine him sitting through all of BATB, Indy, Frozen, and Mermaid, but even if he did, that's still only 6 things in that park. (7 now because he is tall enough to ride alien)

I wouldn’t call it a coaster. It’s just a car going back and forth on a track. The rides take up less footprint because they are all flat rides than go in a circle. Slinky is just a circle there while at DHS it’s a 2 min coaster taking up a lot of space.

They made the cut for RCDB.

The manufacturer also lists them as a roller coaster.

Yeah I would be perfectly happy if AC was used for a few smaller rides the whole family can ride. I really wonder why Disney does not see that as a lacking component to DHS?

TSL definitely has some layout flaws, but it has plenty of positives going for it.

It looks great at night and the theming is well done. Has a very popular QS spot. Mania is a classic (needs an update) and Slinky Dog Dash is massively popular. It's a better attraction than 7DMT by leaps and bounds. Now a TS restaurant there too (hey bring back the fried pickles!)

All you people that yell about they need more A/B tickets, the land has one of those too. Could it use some of the Pixar Pier jumping jellyfish A ticket stuff, probably?

It's probably a better land for a younger audience I admit.

Pandora is a beautiful layout but the land is less complete than TSL.

TSL doesn’t offend me like it does some. Only serious critique nowadays is it’s too darn hot in the summer. I wish they had enclosed and climate controlled a few rooms in the SDD queue like we get on Everest. TSL must be a hard land to work in for the CMs! We just go first thing in the morning if we don’t have a LL in the summer. No way I’m waiting in those queues at 2 pm in August!

The amount of time it takes for updates in this particular land to complete construction is a bit peculiar, too, but it doesn’t really impact me. Just a head scratcher.

I mean, as lazy pointed out, they call it one. But whatever you want to call it, I wouldn't call a half pipe with tracks and an 82 foot drop a flat ride.
