DHS Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

TSL should have been the area packed with kid rides with TSMM as the central attraction. Do what Purduevian suggested and add 2 flat rides, then I think TSL serves a very good purpose at DHS by just adding a lot of capacity. Only having 3 attractions in that amount of space is such a shame. Even the theme of Andy's Backyard just works as a flat-ride city.

Heck, just throwing in Parachute Drop and a spinner would be fine.
Or a kids drop tower. Make it shaped like the spaceship case Buzz gets sold in.

TSL really encapsulates Igers park era in the worst way

Have the design be like the spinner from a game like the Life spinner:

Its not perfect... but I took a crack at redesigning the land.
  • SDD gets a new second half layout (shown in red). The new second half still has a the same launch, back up, launch thing, but then immediately goes over the entrance path twice, before weaving into and out of the current track, going under the bridge, ending with a helix, and meeting up with the OG ending. (hoping the bunny hills could be in that straight part).
  • Alien gets moved slightly north to allow access to a side alley
  • This side alley has a store, a moved woody's lunchbox and bathrooms, Jessie's critter carousel, and Trixie's Triceratops spin
  • In with the vacated area from woodies, you can fit a new dark ride the size of Monsters Inc (RIP) from DCA
  • Finally the entrance to TSMM was moved slightly south to give an open M&G space
This isn't perfect and I might try again later trying to put the dark ride in the back to get more foot traffic to the 2 flat rides and Woodies... but just shows you how much potential there was.

EDIT: Updated version with no extra dark ride, but a better layout IMHO and doubles the size of Woodies seating area. This keeps the flat rides on the main concourse outside of aliens which is the "premiere" flat ride of the land. I Also gave Alien's its queue back, but we lost the dark ride.

No
Just got back from WDW yesterday night (and I have LOTS of thoughts), but on Toy Story Land, it's very poorly designed for sunny central Florida and hotter than hell. I wanted to die as I waited for my niece and nephews to get their picture taken with Woody and Jessie. The characters had to reset midway through the wait. It was awful.

A.S.S was bumpy but at least it was shaded. Slinky was fun for what it is, but I would have rather seen the pre-budget cut version. Riding TSM for the first time since it opened, I actually appreciated it, because my 5-yr-old nephew loved it. I'm fine with it.

A stroll down Memory Lane…

These boards used to be quite unified in mocking the Toy Story Lands added to the international parks. As bad as many of the decisions regarding WDW were, at least we didn’t have anything as low-rent as that. The very second TSL was announced for Studios, a significant portion of the board became much more positive in their assessment of the areas. Now we’re begging for a few more thinly-themed kiddie rides.

DHS's TSL, while very flawed, is infinitely better than the international versions

Unlike every other one, it features a dark ride, a coaster and an indoor restaurant

I’m still pretty much in this camp. The land is of a scale where one flat ride is enough. Add an integrated play area, more theming to SDD, shade, and a proper shop before calling it a day.

Is it? It’s one of the largest lands at Walt Disney World and yet features huge amount of wasted space, had to expand to accommodate a restaurant and has been completely lacking in basic amenities and program. They have to keep tinkering with it because it so fundamentally doesn’t work. The other versions are not nearly the resource and potential drain on their respective parks.

To each their own, but I'd rather have a land with a dark ride, a coaster, a spinner, a quick service, and a table service, than a land with 3 spinners/flat rides, and a quick service

All TSLs look cheap and have no shade. Ours at least has a much better roster of attractions

As I’m sure you know, the “dark ride,” (which is awful and increasingly dated) predates the land.
