The last day of our vaca we plan to go to Sea World because we have free admission for a day. :sohappy:

The park will only be open 9-6 and really we may leave 4 or 5 to get on the road and I am sure my kids will just be spent from our Disney days.

I haven't been to Sea World in about 9 years .... so what are the absolute "do not miss" attractions you would do with young kids (5 and under) on our day there???

Thanks so much for any help!!!

Not that I've ever gone... but, since they're 5 and under:

Shows: I'd actually recommend seeing all of them. Time may not permit, however, so perhaps you should hit "Believe" and "Clyde and Seamore Take Pirate Island" (in the day) and the nighttime shows "Mistify" and "Shamu Rocks". The kids might also appreciate "Pets Ahoy!".

Rides: Shamu's Happy Harbor has at least a few rides for the little ones, and from what I've heard, that whole area is pretty elaborate and perfect for your children. I remember when Sea World was still in Ohio, and I still remember the gigantic play area they had. Something very similar is here, as well. Take it from experience: They'll have a blast there for hours on end.

I think there's also an observation tower there, though that's just my memory from driving by the park.

You probably know by now that Sea World is famous for its animal displays. There's at least 10 scattered throughout the park, and I highly recommend hitting all of them (again, if time permits).

I also recommend ignoring my recommendations and ask someone who's actually BEEN there.

Skip the tower, you have to pay for it. But see clyde and seymour, believe is ok, blue horizons is ok too. I'm sure kids would LOVE those two. Kraken is great for the adults, as is the hospitality house with free beer. Yes, I just said free beer. :slurp:

For kids, see penguin and shark encounters, check out the waterfront, and DEFINATELY visit Dolphin Cove. it's well worth it to pay a few dollars for some food and feed the dolphins.

As a SW regular....... And since you haven't been there in 9 years you have new shows to see.

Since the park is closing at 6 it must mean you are not going in the summer. There will not be any night shows or there has not been any in past years except for at Christmas and during the summer when the park closes later. They have huge stollers that both kids will fit in and I would advise getting one since the kids will be tired from Disney days.

When you get there get a park map. It will have the times of the shows on the back. To see as many shows as you can you need to plan right then and there when you will go to each show you want to see. With the age of your kids you will also want to spend time in the kids area so allow at least an hour for them to ride or play there.

Shows you will not want to miss......Clyde and Seamore ( get there at least 15 minutes early so you can watch the mime).

Believe is one of my favorites again. The kids will be in awe of the beautiful killer whales......BTW get there early enough to get a more center part of the stadium seats to see the screens at their best.

Pets Ahoy is also a definite do not miss with kids. It fills fast depending on the day you are there so arrive early. The animals are all from the pound and are just adorable.

Blue Horizon is colorful fast paced show with the dolphins, divers, etc. Beautiful show.

Start the morning at 9 lining up to buy fish to feed the dolphins in the Key West area. The kids will love that.
Later you can also feed the sea lions over by Clyde and Seamore.

If you have never seen a manatee or a penguin I would walk through those areas too.

And of course you have to walk through the shark tank. There are lots of aquariums in the building with some really cool sea creatures.

If you are ging to eat a meal there, we have 2 favorites----Smokey Creek which is briscuit, ribs and BBq chicken place. You eat in a pavillian at an umbrella table outside so warm when it is really hot and cold if the temps are in the 40s. We usually share a combo platter to save money . They do do have kids meals, though, too.

Our 2nd favorite is Voyagers Wood Fire Pizza.....don't let the name fool ya though......there is more to eat than pizza. Chicken, pasta, etc. The pizza is really good though.

The only restaurant with full serve is Sharks a little pricier. You might want to get reservations when you get there. There is also a meal with Shamu but like Sharks we have never chosen to do that.

Since it is a free day for you I would go slow and let the kids just play for as long as they want on the playground-especially since you will be starting your trip home right after being at SW.

Hope ya have a great day!

Thanks a TON!!!!!!!! This is just the kind of info I was needing!!!
I am printing this and taking it with us when we do go. LOL (seriously!)

We'll be there on a Friday in December. Planning the shows first thing sounds like the best bet for sure!! and doing the dolphins first.

Thanks again!! you guys have been SUPER helpful!!

Judging by her signature, she'll likely be at the park on December 14th (last day). Perhaps the Christmas park hours/nighttime show schedule checks out?

She said the park closing hour was 6pm so in the past meant no night shows. Christmas week I think is the only time they stay open later than 7 except for in the summer.

2 things I forgot to mention, though......

Right now they have an Elmo show that is great for young kids. It is only scheduled to be there for the summer; but if they extend it, it is worth going to.

Be sure to check out the acquariums at the back of the gift shop by Journey to Atlantis. There is one in the floor that kids love to walk on and one in the ceiling. It is a cool room.

Don't forget the Dolphin Nursery - where you can see the young dolphins up close.

Dine with Shamu is an up close dining experience......................with Shamu  . While diners tuck into a very good buffet, Shamu swims in the pool next to the guests (tables are about 3 -4 feet from the waters edge (and yes - you mat get wet). Well worth it - book in advance.

Thanks Capt!! i just saw your post..

Okay... now you guys have me intrigued by this Shamu dining.. may have to look into it.... I am guessing the cost may then make our "free" day feel a lot less free ROFL
