I am both excited and amused (and not positively) by electric car technology.
From what I understand, electric car motors provide near instantaneous raw power and they are as responsive (unless governed) as some of the fastest sports cars. Moreover, the idea of not paying into the gas/money cycle is incredibly attractive.
However, the idea that I am only going to get ~170miles out of a charge, before having to stop and charge the car for 30-45min - presuming there is a charging station exactly 170mi down the road and further presuming that a charging port is available for me to sit at for 30-40min - is downright ludicrous and a system I will never subject myself and my family to. That gets me from long island to about delaware, if Im lucky. Any road trip beyond 700-800 miles - and I'd be near homicidal with rage, over the idea that I would have to stop....with my thumb in a proverbial dark and smelly location for 30-40 minutes, while my car charges. Not for me.
Like I said, I love the idea of an electric car.....but it will NEVER take off until the technology has all of the benefits of gas power and no drawbacks. I see that point happening when you either bring the range of these vehicles up to about 750mi and/or reduce charging time to less than 5 min. Til then, Im going to keep the sheiks rich....
