7 Seas Lagoon - Hotels

Hey All! So, I have been doing some mega surfing on Disney history. I know originally 7 Seas Lagoon was supposed to have more than 3 hotels. Why doesn't Disney use all of the land around the lagoon to expand the Deluxe/DVC resorts?? There is perfect land between CR and the TTC but nothing was ever built. Anyone heard of TDO ever using this land?

The short answer: the land was found to be unsuitable for construction. It wouldn't support anything of any considerable weight without a LOT more work and expense to drive down to bedrock to anchor things.

If you search a bit, you'll find a number of discussions about the Venetian resort that was supposed to go there. (Including concept art)

Correct. Quite a few sink holes, low water table. Not ideal. There's really nothing left in the Magic Kingdom area that would work very well.

Another reason: the 1973 oil embargo had an immediate impact on the economy and attendance WDW, and in short the demand was no longer there to build additional deluxe hotels. By the time the demand was there again, Disney had developed other parts of the property in need of nearby hotels (Epcot, DHS, and eventually Animal Kingdom), and you'll notice all of the deluxe hotels since the 1970s have been built near those parks instead. :)

* Well, except Wilderness Lodge...

Wow... it's crazy how so much that was supposed to be, never happened. Can you imagine if the Boardwalk had been built there. Now that would have been some amazing views!

I've always wondered why they haven't put anything where Discovery Island was, and AoA is now where the Pop addition was, right? Same thing with River Country. (sorry if this is going off topic)
