60 Year Old First Timer

Not sure I should admit this, but I've never been to Disney World. Of course I've dreamt of going to the land of Mickey since I was a wee lad, but it took till my 60th year to get the chance to go.

The real problem...I know where the Mouse resides, but not how to get there.

Want to go in December (first week.) Am I too late? Any suggestions? Do I wait for a Disney Visa Special or just book and enjoy?

Now that I think of it...its pretty embarrassing to be 60 and have no idea how to properly travel to a place where I'm hoping to finally live out a childhood dream (and act like a kid too boot!)

One Little Spark...
Hello All: Well I booked!! Going in December as planned (60 years of planning...) Only worry is advice that suggested that I shouldn't have booked a Disney Package (room, tickets, and dining) since discounts that may arrive later may not apply to the package. Am I daft for booking as I have? Still...part of me says...who cares...I am finally going to Disney World!

First trip, I'd keep it simple...keep your package. Nothing wrong with it at all.

For the record, I've done the analysis on room / tickets / dining and the package works out fine for me each time (nominal to no difference). This is not always the case for every person and every trip. But, it's not something you should worry terribly about.

What resort did you choose?
Which Dining Plan did you choose?

Hello Again...Non Famous Shamus Here...I'm the fella who waited 60 years (yes 60 years...still wondering where all those Disney Possible Years Went) to fulfill a Disney Dream. Starting to get a little worried though...I'm booked for 1st Week In December...but haven't done anything since...getting the feeling I should be doing something else...also got an email that says Free Dining is available (paid for that with my package)...am I missing the boat (or Jungle Cruise for that matter) with my inactivity?

My mom was 70 on her first trip and she loved it all. As a PP said, it WILL put a bounce on your step. My mom felt great during the whole trip and even her bad knee didn't hurt. She said it was all the pixie dust that helped her along.

Have you made any dining reservations? You need to make those even though you're going during a week with small crowds.

Feeling a little bewildered and a bit of a buffoon (if I must say.) Just received an email from Disney Destinations with something called a Pin Number for a discount if I book a trip. Problem is...I've already booked a trip. Has anyone dealt with this situation before. Thanks To All!!

Yes just call them and apply it to your trip.

Shamus, age is irrelevant when considering a WDW vacation. My parents were 70 when they went for the first time and they loved it. Been back two more times and are planning another trip for Spring 2014 or sometime in 2015. (They are 75 this year.) It helps that they have someone to help them plan. I might suggest you check out one of the guidebooks (UnOfficial Guide is my favorite.) or one of the Disney Travel Agents (I use Small World Vacations and they are awesome!). Check out Allears.net for some great tips too.

It looks like you're also within your 180 day window, so book those ADR's!

You will have a great time!

So... It seems I getting the full blast of Disney Excitement and Confusion. Called to apply my 30% Discount Pin, but was told that it could not be applied to my existing reservation, but that a new res. would have to be made...sadly there was no availability at the Polynesian to accommodate a new reservation. I know confusing right? Question is...would you rebook during another week or at another property just to get the 30% or just smile a bit...let the schoolmasters puzzle their brains...and go to Disney as originally planned.
