And thinking on this further. The kid and his family, even IF they had set this up.... spent all his saved up money... contacted the media on their own, planned this scenario to play out....... THERES NO GUARANTEE that Disney was going to pay for a family trip to Disney. It was a a cute story for the local news and thats as far as it might have gone. Disney also could have simply rewarded him with some stuffed animals and a gift card. Or said... We love what this kid did, we will reimburse him all the money he paid out. Or Disney could have sent him an autographed card from the characters saying well done. The thing is there was no guarantee that he was going to get back from Disney a fully paid family trip. Theres no way they could have expected this reward to be given. In fact it would have been more likely Disney would not do a paid trip, but much less.

So they were from Florida, in South Carolina visiting. With a hurricane on the way, instead of preparing or heading home, they were having a cookout for evacuees?

It seems that they were supposed to be in Disney right after the hurricane went through. So, were they in SC to collect granny and head for Disney and the hurricane cancelled their plans? Maybe?

What can be seen is... This family staged their kid as a beacon in the darkness of the hurricane and the public bought it. Someone had to post something to make it go viral... enter family. I'm not sure most people who are trying to get away from the path of a storm are stopping for free roadside dogs and chips. The thought is nice, but when looking at the videos, that road isn't heavily traveled at all.

Disney fell for a desperation trap on social media.

As I said before, there are many things done by good people everyday that go unnoticed or unrewarded. When any of us donate at the cash register while shopping to help with things like St. Jude's, PetSmart, etc, are we expecting Disney to notice? No, that's foolish. So why was this any different?

In my opinion, this lady on the other hand... is a hero: https://www.washingtonpost.com/life...-protect-them-hurricane-dorian/?noredirect=on

Please take note that it does make sure to mention she had an ongoing fundraiser from BEFORE the arrival of the hurricane.

True heroes don't search for accolades and fame.
