6 or 7 day ticket? Advice?

Hello, my name is Dan. I am planning a trip from April 8th to April 15th. I was going to get a 6 day ticket and not enter the parks on my arrival date or departure date. Now I am not so sure.

It would not really cost that much to add a day, but is it worth it to wake my kids up at 3 am to get to the airport by 5 am and then spend the afternoon of our arrival day in the parks? If we go with a 6 day ticket we would fly out at 3 pm and would not have to wake the kids before the crack of dawn.

I cant decide and I am booking today. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

That depends on when you'll be arriving. If you're going to be getting up that early, and not arriving until later in the evening, then I wouldn't get another day because everyone would be super tired. If your spending a whole week at the world, my advice would be to take the first da to just rest and get acclaimated to your surroudings... maybe head to DTD and spend some time exploring your resort!

If we got up that early, we would arrive at 1230 and get to the hotel around 130.

If we fly late and not get the extra day, we would fly out at 340 pm and arrive at 630 pm, to the hotel at 730.

Personally, I don't think it'd be worth it to get up that early if you're not even arriving until 1:30. I mean... if it's really something that you want to do... if you know your family is just burstin' to walk down Main Street USA the moment they get there... then by all means, go for it. But keep in mind there won't be too much you can accomplish on that first day... this of course also depends on the time of year, who has EMH and how late the parks close. But if the kids are gettin up that early, chances are they're not going to make it that late anyway... and even if they do, they'll be dead the next day.

go for a 8 day ticket

the cost difference between a 6 or 7 or 8 day ticket is SO MINIMAL that i would suggest that you get the 8 day and if you only use it for the 6 or 7 days then at the most you are out only like 3 or 4 dollars...

BTW... i would strongly suggest you also get the Park Hopper option this way it gives you more freedom to go from park to park on the same day. it will cost the same to add it to the MYW tickets regardless of the number of days you choose to purchase... and it is my recommendation that you DO NOT GET the no expiration option with say a purchase of a 10 day ticket UNLESSSSSS:shrug: you know you are going back again sometime this year or so for say ONLY 3 or 4 days because if you do go back for MORE than those number of days then you will need to purchase another ticket which when you evaluate the cost you will see why bother with the no expiration option...

one last thing and that is IF YOU THINK (must be pretty sure) that you will be going back sometime within 1 calender year then you might want to consider the Annual Pass... YES it costs more but it pretty much evens out at 11 days of park entry PLUS with the AP you might just be able to save money on your resort rates (if you are staying on property of course) AND you also can save about 10% on a lot NOT ALL property meals... DOWNSIDE if you were going for the meal plan then it is not available on the AP...

hope this helps

We had to decide the exact same thing last month. Our daughter is 8 (how old are your children?) and she did fine. We woke up at 4:00 am, had a 3 hour flight, we were able to enter Downtown Disney by 2:00pm, then to Magic Kingdom for extra magic hours. But younger children might not do so well. I would absolutley do that again. If you go WDW often then maybe not, but we don't and we didn't want to waste any time. We did make sure she wasn't too tired out and we would have and could have went back to the hotel anytime. So the first day ariving at 2:00 and leaving our last park at 11:00 we got 9 hours of Disney in, I wouldn't trade that for just relaxing:D
The day we departed also gave us plenty of time to do more fun things, so with our 6 night stay we did get a 7 day ticket. Just my opinion of course!

The cost of switching from a 6 to 7 day ticket is small.....

Depending on how late the MK is open (because that's where I'd want to go first), I'd probably take a REASONABLE flight time and spend a couple hours in the park either riding rides or watching the parade (I'm not normally a parade watcher, but the tiredness level may let you take it in and then not do it the rest of your trip...ie. shorter lines on rides during the parade)....

Just make sure there are no whacko early closing times due to some event...

hope this helps...and Welcome, newer poster!!!

Your only talking $ 2-$3 more per ticket. Unless you have a big family, you can always go ahead and get the 7 day tickets & fly in the afternoon. Once you get checked in, head for MK & catch Wishes & a Hot dog at Casey's Corner or get some Ice Cream. If your coming in on a day when MK has evening EMH you can stay after the park closes & catch a lot of the rides.

We always get one more day's ticket than the number of days that we initially plan to be in the parks, just in case.

After about the 5th day they almost give you the extra days - very little extra cost.

It just adds flexibility.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice and thoughts!!

My girls are 5, 7 and 8. I'm thinking I will go for the 7 day ticket and take the late flight. Maybe use the extra day to go to MK the night we get there and watch wishes, just to start off the vacation.

What we have done in the past years is leave early and not plan on going to the park that day. My kids are 2,7,8 and this year we had 9am flight... had to leave home at 5:30. The kids were fine and slept on the plane. When we arrive our yearly ritual is to go to Downtown Disney for a late lunch and then either back to the hotel for swimming or to the Boardwalk, mini-golf etc. There is so much to do other than the parks. And it also allows for a not-so-late night at the park and you can start fresh early the next day. I would say 6 days is plenty to see the parks but plan on getting there as early as you can, as you will be able to get the most done in the shortest time. The most I think we use are 5 day tickets, and we plan a slow-it-down refresher day at pool or waterpark in between theme park days.

Just think, you can get your girls all excited by telling them that they will be able to go to the MK on the 1st day of vacation....or you can suprise them by telling them you will spend the evening at the hotel but then head over to the MK....man that would be exciting!!!

That sounds like a good plan. With 3 girls that young they will probably be very anxious to get to the parks and what a great way to start the trip. Also, if you room is ready when you get there, you could go take a power nap and head out just a little later.

Have a great trip!

I would give the opposite advice from one of the posters above.

By all means, if you can possibly swing it, buy the 10 day pass with no expiry option. In an 8 day vacation week, we usually end up resting for 1 or 2 days. The no expiry frees us up from thinking, "if we don't go to the park today, we'll 'lose' the value of one day". So if we decide to spend a day by the pool or in the outlets or playing putt putt, we can do that and save the day for later.

On our last long trip, we actually ended up going to the parks only 4 days, which means we can go again this Christmas with the leftover days. It almost feels like a free trip!

Even if you choose to go 5 days, you have 5 days left for another trip. Or, if you decide you want to go to the parks every single day, you'll come home with 2 days leftover for a great weekend getaway later on.

I am a firm believer in no expiry. We love it. (Annual passes don't work for us because our trips are rarely in the same year.)

when in doubt, always go 7.... the question i always fought with was weather to add the the more option with the waterparks and DQ... I paid for it the last trip and ran out of time to do any of the extra stuff... what a waste!!!

Would it be possible for the OP to purchase the 6-day tickets now and get the 7th day added on if/when they get there and decide to hit the parks the first day?

We are almost always in the same situation. Our last two trips were 8 days, 7 nights. We left real early to get there and left fairly late coming home. We plan a day at home at the end of the trip to unwind, unpack, rest, etc. We have two young kids, 6 and 3. They both make out just fine. They sleep in the car, on the plane, and the youngest will still sleep in the stroller. We also take a rest day in the middle somewhere to do whatever we fee like doing. It's always worked well for us.

So, we always get a pass for each day we'll be there minus 1. We never feel that we've been cheated and we usually go to a park on the first and last day. That leaves the one day in the middle where we basically have to take it easy. With kids, it's one of the best vacations in the world.

My own flight doesn't get into MCO until 6 pm. So by the time I ME over to the resort and check in, I am expecting it to be 8 pm. I've decided to add a day to my pass for this day since it will be EMH at MK ... open until 2 am. :sohappy:

If you are arriving on an evening EMH, why not spend some time relaxing at the resort with the kids, and then go to a park for the evening?

Yes. You can upgrade your ticket within 14 days of first use. There is no difference in total price between a 7-day pass and a 6-day pass with one day added later.
