This year we're not doing a dining plan but we do want to eat at some table services. I don't want to make dining reservations but also don't want to be turned away as a walk-up. So, as a compromise b/w the both I was thinking of calling dining morning of or just dropping by concierge on the way out to park and just see what's available. If it's somewhere we want to go then book it. If not then just QS. What are your thoughts? Anyone else out there fly by the seat of their pants?

We do this fairly frequently. As long as you temper your expectations you should be fine.

If you have a smartphone, the current Disney app makes finding and booking dining quite easy. Simply pull up dining, select a meal or time and whatever is available will pop up. You can then reserve it right from your phone.

I have found that there are very few times - in the morning - where there is not at least one table service restaruant with a resonable time available.

Once you get to a specific park, or it gets to be past say 11 AM, all bets are off.

Because of it's popularity, and comparitively small amount of Table Service places, Magic Kingdom may be somplace where you will not be able to get an ADR at all. But then that really is no big loss.

Perfect! That's what I was wanting to hear. When it come to TS in MK area, resorts would be our pick anyway.

We typically make reservations the day of or a day in advance (locals that go there 7-15 times a year). We picky eaters either as everyone in the family is willing to try new foods. We rarely have a problem. Even if you try to book on my disney experience and they say there is no availability, walk by the restaurant earlier in the day and ask. That happened twice to me in September and we were able to get in.

If you are up for it Resterant Marakesh has always been good for us to get a walk in at.The trick is to eat slightly outside the "normal" lunch hours (12-2)

Poor Marakesh, it gets no love. It always seems to be the last EPCOT restaruant to have no availability. Even when everything else is booked solid, you have a shot at the red-head stepchild that is Marakesh.
