5 in a room?

Hi All.. Returned from WDW on 7/12. Great Trip. Even got a preview of Mission Space - amazing!...and no motion sickness for any of us - maybe I was caught up in the moment but - wow - this could be the new favorite ride !

Anyway - here's the real question: What are the best options for 5 in a room? My wife and I have 3 kids -ages 12, 9, and 7 (the 12 yr old is a boy - the other 2 are girls). Why does this matter, you ask?...Well when we went in '99 we stayed in Port Orleans Riverside (aka Dixie Landings). It was great but the kids were 8, 5 and 3 - and had no modesty issues. IT WAS MUCH DIFFERENT IN 2003 - even for mom and dad. I guess we can deal with it but would love to try other resorts without having to get 2 rooms - any suggestions for on-property resorts? Anyone Anyone? Beuller?

Poly and Contemp take 5 to a room...also a Jr. suite in the Wilderness, but they run into a little more $$. My girls are 15 and 8, but we were just talking about 2 rooms for next trip. We need the time apart.

I'm sorry--I'm a bit confused.

I understand the modesty issues, but I don't quite understand how they can be resolved without 2 rooms.

EXCEPT--you will want to avoid most of the buildings at the Polynesian, IMHO. (I know it's not popular to criticize the Poly, but here goes) Most of the rooms have the sink (yes, just one) in the same room as the potty and bathtub. This really slows down the morning routine. With the sink(s) outside the potty room, others can brush teeth, etc., while someone showers.

(there are floor plans of the rooms at each hotel on the disney website)

But short of getting a DVC property, you will always have the situation of having to get dressed in that tiny bathroom.

And, as you know, POR is the only moderate that will accommodate 5.

You could stay at a resort that offers a day bed as well as a two queen sized beds. I believe you can find rooms like this at Comtemporary. That way, your wife and you can share a queen bed, your 9 and 7 year old daughters can share a queen bed, and your 12 year old son can have the day bed. The price for this one room would be almost comperable if not cheaper (look for discount codes) than two rooms at a value or moderate resort. You really shouldn't have your 12 year old adolescent son sleeping in the same bed as your young daughters, even if it means you need to spend more on another room for your kids. Have a fun trip!

Another option could be an air mattress. We drive so carrying it isn't a problem (with an air compressor too. I know we look like we're related to Jeff Foxworthy). We used a queen sized one for my brother when we stayed at the Swan (and we still had plenty of room) and our now 15 year old sleeps on it when we're staying somewhere. Families of five or more always have to overcome this problem.
The Hotel Royal Plaza also could be an option with the love seat pulling out into a twin size sleeper. It was a nice hotel.

I would recommend staying at one of Disneys Fort Wilderness Cabins. I have a family of five and we stay there all the time b/c it accomodates all of us. The campground is really nice and there are plenty of things to do. The cabins are great b/c they have a kitchen and enough room for everyone. Next trip you should consider it.

Well here is what we did for our family of 5. I am the outnumbered one with all the guys. And I am the one who always gets stuck dressing in the bathroom unless we throw all the boys in the bathroom. We stayed at the Polynesian. I even made sure DS who is 15 and almost 6 foot fit into the daybed. Then I priced out everything else on the disney website. Yes I did consider 2 rooms at the allstars but I cannot consider wilderness cabins because one ds has bad asthma so we checked out the swan and dolphin. We would have preferred the dolphin because it is a little more kid friendly. But we got the swan with a rollaway. We got the govt. rate so it was a little cheaper but see if you can get a discount. The only 2 problems were the inconvenience of mugs/snacks as compared to the poly and not being able to charge in the parks on the room key. We loved the pool. It is fantastic but ds's still like the poly slide better.

I second this suggestion. we are just a family of 4 but when we went my brother was 16 and I was 12. It worked out weel because my and my brother had the same room differnt beds and my mom and dad slept on the murphy bed in the living room. It works really well. Consider getting a golf cart though because the buses were a little slow inside the camp grounds.

We did the 5 at POR in October. Never again - 2 adjoining rooms for me. Just seemed too crowded in the room. They also charged us another 15 bucks for the roll away, which would have equaled the price of getting 2 AS rooms (at the time). 2 bathrooms, 2 TV's, and 4 beds would have made the trip a little nicer. Well - if mother-in-law comes again it definitely will be 2 rooms but will have to re-think the adjoining rooms. I seem to remember passing a Motel 6 on the way in.
