Be prepared for the love bug swarms twice a year.

Now that is a plauge of locusts, lol.
When do the love bugs appear? I've been to WDW during different times of the year, and I have never seen those (thankfully!).
When the love bugs swarm they will be everywhere including inside the park. Fortunately, they are completely harmless to pretty much everything save for automotive paint.Thank you so much to everybody who has replied.
Are these in the parks and on Disney property as well, or just out and about in the normal world? With how many are in that picture, I find it hard to believe Disney can keep them out, but they manage with so many other bugs.
That is pretty much what they do. They hatch, mate, lay more eggs (actually larva) then die.Yeah Lovebugs are insane! They swarmed my workplace in Hollywood Studios during August-September-ish then they dissappeared!:ROFLOL:
Their larva eat dead vegetation. That is the pretty much the extent of their purpose. Those bugs are crazy. I actually have only seen them once the many times I have been to WDW. The family was riding to the airport on the Magical Express, needless to say they were plastered on the windshield of the bus, and the bus driver was talking to us about them. He said he didn't really know what their purpose was in life. They only come out 2 times a year. They do not seem to do anything destructive. They just come out, do their mating, get in peoples way, and they die off.
April-May and August-September

...Thanks again to everybody who's replied. You've all been a great help and I really appreciate it  If I could figure out how to quote everybody (I can quote one, still working on multi-quote), I would to respond individually, but I think that would just complicate things immensely at this point...
I still have a few more questions, though, if you don't mind
So, basically what I'm getting is that the love bugs appear, are annoying because there's just so many of them, but don't bite/sting/hurt anything. I don't think I would bring my car (since I don't foresee owning one at that point in my life), so I'm not worried about the paint job. Correct. They do not bite, sting or anything for the sort. They do however taste pretty crappy if you inhale one while riding your bike.
And, that there's no refuge, even at work, although the pools are worse in terms of numbers. Do they tend to get inside, or stay mainly outside? For example, should I plan on seeing these things in my appartment, or just on the door? If I work at a shop or an indoor ride (Soarin', for example... can't really think of any others, but ones that are primarily inside), am I still going to see a million while I'm working? You typically will not see them inside. I have read a few articles claiming that they are attracted to bright colors but that is probably more myth that fact.
Are there more during the day or at night? Do they like to land on people more/less than other surfaces? I believe they are more prevalent in the day time. They don't seem to really land on anything until they are ready to die. As a general rule you run into them when they are in the air as they tend to hover.
If there's so many of these, do they actually pose some sort of a safety risk on the outdoor rides? (This is just out of curiosity, lol; I can't imagine riding Everest or something and hitting a bazillion of them or seeing them all around the boats in Splash Mountain) No safety concern whatsoever. You biggest risk is being run into by some nut job that is convinced that this love bug is some sort of killer mutated wasp and is runny away screaming from it.
And lastly.... are they (for the most part) tolerable?Yes. You can deal with pretty much anyting for a few days.
Thanks again! :ROFLOL:
I'm sure it seems like I'm obsessing, but now I'm really just curious. We don't have anything like love bug seasons where I am.
