So a poster named PSUMark (no relation) recently posted an interesting piece of news on MiceChat. Apparently, anyone who didn't win the "Room for One More" Haunted Mansion event received the following email:

We appreciate your enthusiasm to volunteer to join us for the Room for 1 More Haunted Mansion Event, but our ghost hosts are deeply saddened to say that you have not been selected to purchase a ticket for this event. As you can imagine, there were many more requests for plots than we were able to fulfill. You are, however, included on the waiting list. Should not all of the foolish mortals choose to purchase their tickets, names from the waiting list will be emailed as space allows.
Questions may be directed to the spirited team at Walt Disney Event Services by calling 407.827.7600 or emailing to wdw.event.reservations@disneyworld.com.
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Walt Disney World® Resort on Saturday, October 1st at Magic Kingdom® Park.

Official? Mistake typed into an official email? Common knowledge that I apparently missed? I'll let you all decide... but it sounds to me like there might be some incentive to visit the ol' MK on the first of October after all.

In other news, I'm now officially a senior member of WDWmagic. :D

Well the anniversary is happening whether Disney does a year long celebration or not. I don't think there was ever any doubt there would be some sort of event on Oct 1.

^ I know I had some doubts. :lookaroun I personally wouldn't have been surprised if they had just made an announcement at rope drop or something, but this sounds like it may be more substantial.

They'll probably have someone (Bob Iger? Tom Staggs? Meg?) re-read Roy's dedication, and that will be the end of it.

It will likely be a show around something like that. We were in Disneyland on its 40th, the actual day, and there was very little done about it except a short ceremony, some 40th merchandise, and some signs.

It is just the 40th and for some reason people just don't get that excited about 30 and 40. But 25th and 50th are being being quarter and half century. The fiftieth will likely be a big year long event.

Big or little, this excites me as I plan to be in WDW on Oct. 1st!! :D

I too will be there. It is our travel day (out) so we decided that for $3 each in extra ticket costs why not go to a park for a half a day.

I really don't want to go to MK again that week, but it will be hard to be there and not be there.

The day Run Disney moved the Halloween 5K from the Magic Kingdom to the Animal Kingdom on Saturday, Oct. 1st that was a pretty good hint they'd be doing something at the MK on that day. Probably nothing very elaborate, but I'm sure there will be something.

Disneyland got Indiana Jones for its 40th, so I'll respectfully disagree.

And a special stage show, a unique song for the 40th, and displays around the park showing the "40 Years of Adventure."

And the Indiana Jones Adventure.

Uh, what's WDW getting again? A special merchandise event?
