4 Walt Disney World Resorts to accept dogs

I received another follow-up call from Disney today, and more information was clarified. I was told that pet-friendly rooms would be on the outskirts of the resort. Interestingly, I was also told that pet-friendly rooms would be centralized to just 4 buildings at POR. Given the size of POR, this is a pretty small portion of the property. If requested, guests will be guaranteed rooms in buildings away from pet-friendly rooms.

This rep apologized for the confusion and explained that they were just as shocked to learn this news last week. It seems like they are still straightening out details on their end.

Good. Now it seems they are back to the original released plan where the dog rooms would all be contained to the 4 buildings adjacent to the dog relief areas. Per the map below it’s buildings 24, 15, 80 and 95. The initial report on Portorleans.org said that they were attempting to just use building 24 if possible, but further updates were that that wasn’t being enforced. It sounds like they are firming up the policy and addressing people’s concerns. Good customer service move.

I too had a call from Disney today following the email I sent - they confirmed the buildings noted above will be used as pet friendly rooms and have marked my reservation to not put me in any of those blocks this coming weekend - they have also marked next years reservation so if I do decide I want to move hotels they will do so without any admin fees. I wasn’t prepared to move at the minute given we’re still in a pilot and if I move it might stop or I could move to another hotel that gets added to the list of pet friendly hotels.

If you haven’t already sent an email or letter and your unhappy then please make sure you do as they are logging them all and they won’t know how the majority feel otherwise!

One could also add to your side in that service animals are HIGHLY trained and aren't just a typical dog.

Agreed. I'm not advocating the right to let any dog that comes to WDW into the parks, just that dogs on property are nothing new. They've been allowed in the campground for years and Im sure there have been many a guest that have snuck their dogs into the hotels plus Disney has always had kennels on property to watch your dogs while you play in the park.

This whole notion that the parks/hotels are designed for humans and therefore are unsuitable for dogs is completely childish. My house where my dog lives was designed for humans, my car that I transport him in was designed for humans, and yet my dog survives just fine in an environment not centered on him.

From what others have posted who are in the field of dog training there is no "Service Dog" documentation issued at the County, State or Federal level; until there is people will abuse service dog status. Unfortunately WDW hands are tied as far a determining service dog status thus they are placed throughout the various resorts. Now that WDW will allow all dogs will "service dogs" be restricted to designated resorts and buildings? Let me state I have no problem with valid service dogs, they are well behaved and do a great service

By law, Disney cannot segregate service dogs to the regular "dog-friendly" resorts. They are allowed anywhere their owner goes. Unfortunately there is a segment of the population that sees nothing wrong with fraudulently presenting their "fur-child" as a service dog, but hopefully the availability of dog-friendly resorts will somewhat curb the lying.

You just. Don't. Get it.

You realize that your home and car, where you dog sits, lays down, etc. - have his fecal matter everywhere? And I am not talking about just the stuff you can see. Not to mention hair, dander, etc. It's not about being "centered on him" - it's about the environment that is not designed to be sanitized in the way that it needs to be in order for others to not be exposed to allergens and other things associated with your dog.

The only childish thing is thinking that you need to bring your pet with you everywhere you go.

Was just looking at a non official WDW map of Port Orleans Riverside and it shows the preferred buildings to be in 15, 14, 18 now that 15 is a dog designated location wonder if that will change the preferred status of buildings 14 and 18 which are next to 15. Have stayed in building 18 which was a great location.

Have you ever seen what happens every time a toilet is flushed? I hope you keep your toothbrush in a cabinet or drawer...

So you've mentioned... and continue to ignore the fact that that service animals have had areas and procedures designed for them in the parks/hotels to accommodate service animals. Your argument is invalid.

I haven't ignored the fact, I've mentioned it before.
Service dogs - real ones - are highly trained animals.
Their numbers are comparatively few, and due to this and their high training - their impact is little.
Opening up the hotels to the "fur babies" crew is a whole 'nother ball game.
A completely different class (in most cases) of dog owner and dog behavior.
Due to this, along with the increased number of dogs - the impact will be greater.

But it's your house, and your car.
I don't care what you allow your dog to do, or where you allow it to go in your house, car or property.

FYI, as a retired microbiologist a colleague several years ago did a study of the intestinal bacterial profile of dog owners and their dogs. It turned out they shared the same bacteria profile. The profile differed between owners, How this occurs I'll leave that up to your imagination.

News flash, everything you touch at WDW is covered in germs, fecal matter and the like. The world as a whole you inhabit is covered in the same. I too leave traces of hair, dander, and fecal matter everywhere I go. Just imagine how much fecal matter is flying around in the parks bathrooms everything a toilet is flushed.

Animals live on Disney property and in the parks, birds, rabbits, feral cats, deer, alligators and more. If Disney can handle cleaning up all manner of human fluids like vomit, diarrhea, urine and more they can handle anything that might happen with a service dog.

Also, I don't know if you realize this or not but humans also will leave hair, dead skin, bodily fluids, blood in that bed you are sleeping in at the hotels.

I'm sorry someone may have an allergy to pet dander, but you know what... I'm allergic to pollen and certain foods but you don't see me DEMANDING Disney remove any chance of me coming in contact with those elements. Instead I understand the environment I am entering and take proper precautions and rely on certain policies and procedures Disney has in place to keep me safe and able to enjoy their parks and resorts.

I can understand someone being upset that a favorite hotel of theirs is now accommodating dogs and that may impact their vacation but just like visiting the parks, Disney is allowed to change their policies and procedures at any point.

And for the record I never said I needed to take my pet with me everywhere I go.

So the solution is to add yet another factor in by exposing us to someone else's animal?

That makes crap tons of sense.

I can understand someone being upset that a favorite hotel of theirs is now accommodating dogs and that may impact their vacation but just like visiting the parks, Disney is allowed to change their policies and procedures at any point.

And we are allowed to complain about them, at any point.

See how that works?
