3rd Theme Park?

"When Universal Studios obtained the land for its Florida theme park, it bought enough land to support more than one park. But what would that be? After Universal Studios Florida opened in 1990, Universal entertained the idea of going after rival Disney with an all-cartoon park, licensing characters from Warner Bros., Jay Ward and either DC or Marvel comics, […]".

If TL change theme (LOR for example) and if Marvel disappears in the future, the 3rd park is not the project originally planned for IOA ....

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say, or where that quote came from, but it's referring to IOA. Universal is likely toying with the idea of a third park currently, but there's been zero public evidence of this, so you won't get any solid answers on this topic yet.

Some may be unaware of this, but they started planning IOA almost immediately after the Studios opened. It takes a long time to plan a theme park, so even if they're already deep into the design process, it could be quite a while before we actually hear anything outside of rumors.

I know Universal also owns Wet 'n' Wild, but maybe the 3rd park can be a waterpark. It would be closer to the parks than Wet 'n' Wild...

Technically land has been looked at on Major Blvd, the Lockhead area and around Wetn Wild (the latter is now owned outright by Comcast) but expect more hotel rooms and a water park before any third gate.

It will happen but I very much doubt anything like it will open this decade.

Not to hijack this thread but does anyone think Toon Lagoon is for the long haul? With all due respect most of the characters are iconic but most kids and young adults have no idea who they are. When the highest profile character is Popeye there is a problem. Any replacement news? Please? lol

I'd expect Ripsaw to go. Probable retheme of the land. Barges to stay albeit possibly with a new theme (sadly)

Agreed--not just the characters are dated, the medium they are drawn from itself (comic strips) is essentially foreign to anyone under 30.

IIRC, @HTF has hinted at something coming before the end of the decade, tho he was as cryptic as usual. But that was when Kong was going into Disaster, not JP, so may have changed.

If Disney had a brain they would shove Marvel Cinematic Universe down UNI's throats to expand Superhero Island into Toon Lagoon, thus forcing UNI to hold off on LotR for a third gate they will not be able to build before next decade.

Or as @HTF likes to say, if there's smoke, there's fire.

While I'm psyched to someday see a third Uni park, I'm much more interested in a themed Waterpark! Any idea when this Waterpark may open? I've heard 2017-18 as a timetable.

But, Disney doesn't have any power to build Marvel attractions in Orlando.

I would not be THAT sad to see Toon Lagoon go. The theater and carnival games are just a waste of space and the games are just trashy. Dudley is pretty on the outside (one of the best done facades, IMO), but the theming in the queue and interior show scenes are terrible. They are kept up very terribly (Universal's fault) and the ride is literally 1/2 finished.

However, my dad adores the ride and has only been to IOA twice, and when I spoke about my disdain for the ride, he actually agreed but said that's how he thought it was supposed to be... "janky". I thought that was interesting, as I could see where he was coming from... The use of minimalist style mixed with the comedy of Dudley-Do Right to make a cheesy long flume. I dunno.

I would miss everything about this, though... I love this entire area of Toon Lagoon.

My problem with Dudley is it completely drenches you. I don't mind a little flume splashdown, but Dudley practically submerges you. Add in how uncomfortable the ride vehicles are, and it's a big pass for me.

If Dudley is removed, I wonder if the replacement would be another water ride.

When you say "I'd expect Ripsaw to go" do you mean re-themed or literally ripped out? I think Barges is the best rapids ride I have ever experienced. The ride is amazing (even if the "octo-doors" do not work) and hope that if/when it is re-skinned the new theme is just as immersive.

I would also ike to add that if you include the theater (waste of space) Toon Lagoon could be considered one of the largest "islands" in the park. The theater just never made sense. Did not ever seem to work. Also, they should retheme the rest of Lost Cont. and make Poseidon a Potter vs. Voldemort special effects stunt show. A battle between the two of them with you in the middle.
