30th Walt Disney Anniversary

There's T-shirts, hats, jackets, etc at the magic kingdom and some hotel gift shops, but that's about it...it's being overshadowed by the 100 years of magic.

Am I the only one who thinks the 100 year celebration should of been held in Disneyland as opposed to MGM? Just doesnt seem right to me...i dunno...

I've been there a couple o' times, and I was really dissapointed. You are obliged to leave Disney "property" every day, since there's no need to visit MK more than 2 times, then you need to go to UNIVERSAL STUDIOS, and KnotsBerry Farm (I don't know if it's still there) and Boardwalk and Baseball (ditto). MK is weird if you are used to Disney World, it's like one of those dreams where you imagine you are in somewhere but it really looks different as they real, but however you know you are there! BIZARRE is the word, maybe.

From what some of my friends are telling me, Disneyland isn't doing a single thing to mark Walt Disney's 100th birthday... personally, I think that's a shame... It's fine to have the big celebration at WDW... but at least do something, ya know?

I beleive Tokyo Disneyland is doing some stuff... I know I downloaded a 100 Years of Magic song from them, but I have no confirmation on it.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! My best friend and I have discussed this on many an occassion. ESPECIALLY about the moving of Walt's office. That just hurt since I"m a native Cali girl. It also gave the MGM CastMembers bragging rights. (one of my roommates worked there) And from what I've read at intercotwest.com (since when it happened I was stuck in FL and by the time I moved back to LA it was done with) there was special cerimonies for the 100th but since the big deal was at MGM there wasn't a big celebration over here. :(

Glad to see Im not the only one who thinks that way..As a Floridian, it is rare for me to think that way...but its an issue of MORALITY. I mean...it all started with Disneyland...Walt never even had a concept of MGM before he died..so its not like its being held in a park he had ANYTHING to do with.....

EXACTLY. My friend and I argued Disneyland (of course) and if they just HAD to put it in FL they could have at LEAST put it at the MK (although no real room) or Epcot (my personal choice if it couldnt' be at Disneyland but that's just cause the chance of me working the attraction would have been great and I would have adored that lol). I drove Kellie insane with this (the roommate that worked at MGM) cause she took on airs cause MGM was the center of attention. I love Kellie but .. it was a tad bit fustrating lol.

it's at MGM b/c the Magic Kingdom and Epcot recently had their own celebrations. Epcot didn't need another celebration icon, no one wants anything attached to Cinderella Castle, and MGM lacked a popular icon. So, they came up with the excuse that walt started with movies, so MGM was the logical place. It's all about the icon (and the fact that MGM is "eisner's baby".

...i don't have a dog in this fight but seems to me that the '100 years of magic' was promoted as an all-encompassing concept...celebrating everything derived from Walt Disney since his birth 100 years ago....the location of the celebration is really a matter of preference not principle cuz it didn't focus only on the parks....

HOWEVER......Disneyland has to be already involved in the monumental planning of it's 50th anniversary celebration in three years.....that should be one hellava bash out there...

That is what Disneyland did for Walt's Bday. I knew they did something. And I agree ALL the parks could have done something....

I also agree with NowInc that it shouldn't have been at a park which he had nothing to do with. Disneyland .. Walt's park, Magic Kingdom ... beginning of the Florida Project, EPCOT ... Walt's dream, Animal Kingdom... based on his original concept for the Jungle Cruise, Disney-MGM Studios....?????? Yes Walt started his carreer in animation and that is what most of the population know him for but he had NO insight at ALL into this park. IMHO even though the rides are good it was Disney's attempt to bring Hollywood to FL. (hey anyone else ever noice the similarities... ie. Orange County, Lake Buena Vista, even a town named Hollywood... think about it.)
